Hi csdenmark my point is very simple, the best way to solve a problem is first to define it as accurate as you can, you cant try to solve a problem when its not defined, imo you are trying to solve more then the simple problem of automatic bailing out of MBC, maybe you are trying to solve rudness as general. So lets define the problem, someone get into your table and you dont know that he is about to play a tournament, right ? it doesnt matter why he does it, only thing matter is that you should know about his coming tournament, and this can be done automaticly.

I dont have much knowlege of weak NT since its rare where i play, however i fugure your double is ment to punish, so why does partner holding 5 card doesnt panish 2d ? now to your first bid, as i see it doubler will need to have a hand that will be happy to leave any contract doubled by partner, now you need to ask yourself , will you be happy to pass 2d doubled (and remember partner can double with less then 5 cards, maybe even a good 3, but certenly with 4) i think its not, this is why i dont like the double and would bid heart wather its 2 or 3 depending on your agrement.

I can think of a solution that is much less drastic and might be best. The problem is that someone didnt tell his opponents about his upcoming tournament, so why dont be fix just this, let the opponents (and partner) know this automaticly. This can be done in many ways for ex' an icon next to the play that informing he is going to play a tournament in X minutes . This way we leave the decision to the players maybe they dont mind, maybe they all sign up for this tournament.

It seems best to just play K of diamond and on 4-1 diamond break play like before. there are some funny plays here but each one got its defect.

maybe the right term isnt double squeeze. I dont know if the correct name is double squeeze, but there is more then 1 sqeeze possibility here. The problem is that i couldnt find a way that works everytime, so as far as i know now i have to choose what to squeeze for. option 1: simple squeeze on east with 4 hearts and QJ of club or Q/j 4 time. option 2: simple squeeze on west with 4 hearts and the K of spade. option 3: simple squeeze on west with QJ of club and K of spade, to do this you will have to give up on the 3-3 heart hreak option. option 4: which for now seems the best will work every time hearts are 3-3 or when west has 4+ heart or when east got 4 hearts and QJx or Q/J 4 time club. Its done like this : you get to : [hv=n=sjhaj9dc4&s=shkd4ca109]133|200|[/hv] now you play the last diamond and throw the last club, if west began with 4 hearts he is now down to K of spade and 3 hearts,now on the A of club he is squeezed. if east began with 4 hearts and the club QJX or Q/Jxxx he is down to 3 hearts and can only have 1 club so he is squeezed now.(you throw the J of spade from dummy)

you gave west 14+ cards. You better try for double sqeeze.

I prefer to play 4h as a general bid rather then something about the H suit. 4H shows a hand that is strong enough to make 4 spade but have some diffence, as opposite to 4 spade which is a more offensive bid. partner will need this information if the opponents keep on bidding and he will be in a good place to double them or bid on.

What will you do over thier 4♠ if he showed to have K or more ? Two bad options are double for 1/2 down when 6/7 is cold or bid on and go down when they were going 3/4 down in 4♠ Then I don't think it matters if you open 1♥ or 2♣, if opps are going to bid 4♠. They re obviuosly bidding on shape. So they will no matter what I open And I will bid 5♥, since X by me would show a balanced NT hand. Sometimes preemptive bidding, especially in ♠, just works. Mike B) Ofcouse they bid on shape, but this is where bidding 1h give you an advantage over bidding 2c, if you opened 1h, you later bid 4c or even 5c and from there and later double, and you feel confortable because you showed you have lots of hearts and club and a strong hand, partner can take charge and decide for us. but when you bid 2c you are less likely to show what you got and will have to make the last guess. My teacher Radoslav Videnliev had a nice saying: "If you are afraid of wolves, don't go to forest for mushrooms" B) When you are in situation where getting info is impossible you must play on statistics. It means in example to bid, because your p have around 8 hcp and fit and 4 level is safe. Anoter rule is to play for 2 TH in p after preempt from opps. Finally 5 losers hand with 15 good hcp is 2 zone of opening and worth normally nonjumping reverse is hand with which if I pass I will lose my little remain selfrespect of courage man B) . Misho Your teacher is right and i wish i could push this into some players head (one in particular) but i am sure Luis know that. when i read this qeustion my answer was to double, later when i read what other ppl said i decided not to post here because i dont know if im right and if Luis pass i wouldnt advise otherwise unless im confident enough with my answer and im far from it here.

After one course of natural langueges i can tell you that its really cool but far from easy. Lots of work have been done on the subject, i think there are some contests, its is also what turing set as the test for AI. I know there is a computer robot on the net that you can talk to and do some primitive programming to. good luck

You should switch ♥ and ♠ in the examples. I'm sure its not right to never bid 4♠ your proposal looks good, but its realy hard to judge how good. other ideas can be like picture raise having no control outside the two suits, or can be some control showing that will be hard to show after the 3nt, 4♠ could show controls in both club and diamond.

I dont think player should be panished for bailing about of an MBC table, if you dont want them to beb bailed then dont do that, but it seems wrong to suck them to a turnament and then punish them for that, yes i agree that a player should leave a table before he is being builed but still... I think even if you can't reach perfection you should work to improve. For that resson i would try to do what you know for sure that is right for example, not to allow a player that has sign up for a tournament to start a new board 7-10 min before the tournament begin. a player who signed up for a tournament shouldnt be allowed to enter a new table atleast 15 min before his tournament begin, it dsoesnt make sense to me to enter a table for only 2 boards, but 30 min like suggested earlier might be lil too much. After that you use what uday suggested and not take the player to the turnament if he is still playing of take him anyway, but you will have much less of those playing. Those things shoudlnt be too hard to implement, they wont solve every problem but will solve some, and i think it will also give the tournaments a little more respect, if people will wait for it for few minutes rather then be bailed from a played board.

One more importent thing here. If you double, dont think of it too much, and put the double confidently, if you esitate too much you will be doubled more and you will not see your opponents bid 3sp down 1 when you were down 1 yourself.

Your 2c is right and not close imo to any other bid. The hand doesnt look good in term of total trump, it wont be higher then 16 and might be 15, since your partner could have bid and didnt. in mp i would double now inorder to get a little better score, this could be 110 to 100, or 200 to 100 if my partner will leave the double. At imp this little improvment of the score doesnt needed, so if i bid its for a different perpose which is to find partner with a strong hand and then get to game, probebly a 3nt , or to get some 500 when he leave the double. on the other hand doubling at imp can lead to a very bad result, if partner is weak and we dont have a fit, i think i wont take the chance and just pass, maybe if they are vul and we are not, the chances of 2sp D - 2/3 can be worth the risk.

Did you know that 52.5% of the hands contains 7-12 hcp ? Don't you think this should be a serious factor in system design? example could be to use the bids at the 2 level for specific shapes with 7-12 hcp, rather then weak. if you narrow it even more then 8/11 hcp is about 36.6% what do you think ?

Ok i see most agree not to bid, and i wouldnt bid either, now what about the lead. Lets say the bidding was simple , either 1nt p p p or 1nt- 3nt what do you lead ?

Sry if this was suggested million times before. The fact that the system takes someone out of a table in a middle of a game doesnt seem right, its very rude to leave a table like that so why should BBo system take part of such rudeness ? I think it would even be better if the system would just take those who dont play and will bad from the turnament those who are curently in the middle of a play, people will then have to make sure they arent playing or will not be playing the turney. Another less extreme way is to make sure that a player who sign up for a turnament cant begin a new board 10 min before the tournament begin, this shouldnt be too hard to do, and will solve most of the leaving in the middle problems.

I agree with you free, the examples of Richard are different and good, and i know the different between them and what i gave. still i think it shouldnt be alowed to use the example i gave that do a matematical calculation, even tho you can do it yourself and know everything, my example is even more extreme then rechard since even though you know the key it still shouldnt be allowed.
