Hi Chris yes there are ways to solve the problem, two ways recommanded in the partnership bidding after 1M double are : 1. save 2c for the 3 card support, the rest of the bids remain natural. 2. all bids between 1nt and 2M-1 are transfers, so the 2M-1 is showing the 3 card support. in option 1 you lose the natural 2c, in option 2 you lose the natural 1nt. i think both ways are good and better then redouble. after an overcall again there are methods to distinguish the amount of support. after 1M and overcall, 2nt shows 4 card support and cue bid show 3 card support. After a minor opening and double you might want to play 2nt for support but after double its better stay natural.

what the 5h meaning?
Flame replied to happybridge's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
This is a case for discussion but even then the standard should be that a our suit is just competitve. examples : 1sp (2h) 2sp (3h) 3sp no free bid but still 3sp isnt inviting, and we should use the double for invite. 1sp (2h) 3h (5h) 5sp here pass is forcing and should be used to invite. 1sp (2h) 4sp (5h) 5sp in most partnerships there isnt forcing pass here (maybe only red vs green) but still i would play 5sp as competitive and would have to guess what to do with invitation (not that inviting is much more accurate here) Its best to have a simple rule : bidding our suit isnt inv, and when need to inv we should find another bid and if there isnt one avaliabe then we just cant invite. -
I would play the A, the only way this can be wrong is if west got K9 doublton, with Q9x east wouldnt lead trump, and even with Qxx he probebly wont. I dont think you played well before this trick, i dont see a point in ruffing heart and then playing trump. I would (if i decided to play A of heart on trick one) play spade at trick 2, the heart ruff can wait, and will only cause you a lose of controll over the hand.

You are right all the way. About you intresting question at the hand, it looks wrong that with the same hand you will count more hcp using 4 card major, however it make sense, the idea is that when we got 9 card fit one of us will count extra points for the 9th trump, if we bid 4 card major then partner have 4 card fit here and i know we got 9 and will get my extra trump bonus, on the other hand playing 5 card major, i wont get the bonus but partner having 4 card will know we got 9 and he will get the bonus. this is the basic idea, the part about fit is not 100% close in the zar thory atleast for what i understand.

Hi Free one way relay are nice but they can be proved to be inferiour to 2 way, in the sense on amount of information transmited, on the other hand, simple relay might be easier, and have the advantage of hiding one hand from opponents (hopefully declerer's hand) Sometimes you have no problem deleverion all the info with the simple way, but other times you need to delever too much for that. Having an opening that can be pass helps alot, when partner pass 1sp with all 0-5 hcp, we can continue as its a simple relay but we already transmited alot of information that is very importent to the bidding. just think of partner with 0 hcp, i wouldnt want to be in the 3 level even with 17 hcp, this will be easy when he will pass 1sp, but will not be hard if he cant pass it (like when i bid an artificual 1nt instead) , use this pass, for example gib's moscito if i remember corectly pass an artificual hands opening with very weak. same with many other systems like MIDMAC, or NTC , or natural systems.

What you missed from my original post is it's title, i didnt choose this title for nothing. The title says that the pass is the most importent bid, the problem with your fibo claim is that its true only when we are talking about one way information, but when partner can pass 1sp it opens a two way information which is way supirior, also i have made another way info after 1sp beside the pass. about your example , maybe your used to playing moscito with strong 1c which limits your bids, but i ments 1sp to be a natural 1sp something like 11-21 (Actually in my system it began with 7 not 11 ), now im sure you will noticed you were going way too high on some hands, maybe with most.

Like i said, you're anazylinng is very well, but in real life partner have 2 seconds atmost to think of this problem, he cannot afford to think about the trick or else declerer will know where the A is. Now as a partner of this player who played the 9 what is more lickly, 1: partner just player small second hand like a normal boy without making any genious moves, or 2: partner for some wierd resson played 9 from 9x. usually i prefer to play for the normal play rether the the genius play, especially when whats on stack here is taking a contract down as opposite to an overtrick

with all due respect, if you read carfully you might understand why fibonachi rule will not work here.

Evaluation guys have no mercy, now i have to read this. why do they make it so long ? (yes i know about the brief at the end, but thats not intresting) -
If you want to see why, try to constract a system when you have to open 1nt with the hand you usually open 1sp , just one bid higher, now lets see you bid, you wont get even close. i was using 1nt 2c 2d and 2h to show hands with 5 hearts + 4 om or 6h, and still couldnt manage to show what i could easily show with a simple 1sp.

Yes i think you're right.

what the 5h meaning?
Flame replied to happybridge's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
bids or our suit are always competitve never invite to anything. If you want to invite you can use any other bid like 4nt 5c,5d -
The 2♥ bid doesnt say i psyched and now i am too afraid of leaving 1nt D. Its says i have an offensive hand and i believe we can get a better score offensively then diffending, this should be done with mostly 5-5s. I would bid 2sp since i dont see anything better to bid.
-
Well you are right, its almost all about the diamond suit. The line they took lose only to Q10XX on west,to the line of playing A and then runing the 9. on the other hand thier line win if west got a void and your line doesnt. with the good chances of an overtrick + the rare chances of a squeze (maybe need a mistake of diffence) + the 5-0 maybe they went for that line. In real i wouldnt be surprise if they just didnt see the other line, they could be good but i can tell you that some players arent too good with suit safty play especially when its on the table and not in the book (or the forum) and i am in this group.
-
You cant pass with this, you should double because you are too strong to bid 2sp. bid 2sp here even with 5 hcp. lead small spade.
-
You show us only this suit, but most of the time ,the right play depend on alot more then one suit.
-
Its right that 3-3 spade after taking the AK is more then 50%. on the other hand after AK of spade, taking the finnese of heart give you more then 59%. The finnese is probebly still a bit better.
-
Thats cool alright i think the besat problem will be to defend against all those systems, i suggest playing "nothing" as suggersted by granoveter in his book, completly ignore the alerts and diffend as it was natural. good luck
-
This is cool just like the redouble on the other thread but i think you should alert it and give the opponents the all info which will make this less effective.

A strong-club system for beginners?
Flame replied to helene_t's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I learn bridge with precision, and i must say it was a mistake. We didnt understand what we learn, we just memorized it. I can compare to another group that begin about the same time as us with the same teacher but learned a natural system, and they did alot better. When you teach a natural system, you give them understading of the game, they understand not only the system but also the overcalls and other bids in competition. -
Free's explnations about partner having to play A from A9 are nice, but to play the Q you play against "natural" play, you play partner to play the 9 from 9x which is not normal and not likely, also you play declerer to play low from AKXXX which is again not normal, true its possible to play like that for a safty play but this also recuire that the rest of the hand is good for this safty play, for example if partner has AQ of heart here then this safty wont be so safe and will give us a a ruff and down one on a cold game, other things can happend. so basicaly playing the Q is for a specific situation where all the cards are good for safty play, the declerer recognized that, and partner did a strange move playing 9 from 9x, and all this to get muone less overtrick. Not worth it, remember that in defence you dont have that much time to think my partners would play 9 from A9, 10 times more then 9 from 9x. BTW i didnt understand the first message because my hand looks like RHO of dummy in the picture.

There is a better solution here then lightner double, west had to bid 5h instead of 5sp.
-
Lightner double is not played in situation when you can count on thier bid to be accurate to make. in competitive bidding double is just ment to take the contract down.

I dont understand this question, maybe i don't understand how to read CT CQ C5 C3 S2 S9 SK S7 S3 ? pls explain

Count, attitude, preference
Flame replied to DK Lillee's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
little bit off topic, Don't mistake signaling as the soul of the diffence signaling is a very small part of good diffence and there are experts who think you shouldnt signal at all, especially at IMP. Diffence is about picturing the declearer hand, this is here you should put your hard work.
