1♣-1♠-1NT-2♦ ? What the meaning of the following bids: 2♥ D 2NT 3♣
-
Since 3c/3d/3h doesnt show what i have , i wont use them, i am surprise to see that ppl interprete trail bid differently then i do, i play them as long and weak , i show losers in the suit. holding Qxx opposite my trail bid isnt good. a sinlgton/void is best, Ax would be good too. 3 possible bids for me 3sp if this is a general inv 2nt and then showing short club 4sp

Sluggish bidding styles
Flame replied to helene_t's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I hope this isnt your regular partner, since i got the impression you deserve alot better. I myself is an extreme case of good partner, i do everything i can to make sure my partner wont mistake, this include not bidding somethign i think is right but partner might not understand, i dont test my partners at diffence either. I think my way is too extreme and its sometime fustrating, i think its a results of aggresive partner who would jump to slam or double the opponents on any pips i made. The opposite isnt good either, partnership comes before anything else, and making moves of your own is just telling partner you dont need her. -
Did i mention i really like this idea :) I have tried to delelop systems with light opening, but somehow didnt think of passing strong balanced in first seat, this could add some power.
-
I think it could be right, and a great idea. but you must pass with 0-7 even if unbalanced.
-
Well I agree with most of your analysis, but have two remarks , first games and slam do matter more then partsoce, its not right to totally ignore it, second forcing pass are valid systems and many thinks they are better then std bidding, but since its not allowed anywhere its maybe better to spend the time on other espects of the game, atleast that what i prefer to do myself.
-
Both those hands are a bit stronger then mine, but ok i will bid it from now.
-
A reverse show more then 9 hcp, true i have extra shape, but still i would think 6-5 need atleast 13 hcp for a reverse. Partner will double the opponents based on 16 hcp in my hand and when ill pull it he will understand i have 6-5 (and not 5-4) but he will also understand i have 13+ hcp (can be alot more). partner might bid slam or double them on the next level. Im not saying 2sp is wrong, i really wanted to bid it myself, just that my bridge is always thinking of partner first, if i think he will not understand my bid , i dont bid it. This hand i think 2sp is the worse of evil but dont agree of it being a normal bid with no problems.

Asking for Aces after Stayman sequence
Flame replied to ArcLight's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
8-9 without 4 spades, you bid 2sp and partner will bid 2nt on this with a minimum and and something else with max ? this is playable although it will most of the time just give your opponents extra information of you hand when you just had to simply bid 3nt. -
1.NO 2. Unlike what ppl said before i didnt show all i got, i have 5 hearts and i only showed 4 and this is critical. Also thier being unvul suggest bidding if i think we can make, if it was bidding 3H over thier 2sp i might have taken it, but this is not the case here, 2sp is not thier contract, they will corect to 3c, now its a 3 over 3 decsion, which i dont think i have enough for, also now partner has another bid, with some extra hcp he will double again, or bid 3h with 4 heart and club shortness. if he dont have extra there is a good chance we will go down in 3h. so I PASS

Asking for Aces after Stayman sequence
Flame replied to ArcLight's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
If you play 4 suits transfer, you need this bid to show 8-9 with 4 cards spade. -
I just now realise that maybe your question (ur target contract) wasnt 6H but 4H, maybe you had the bidding 1♥ pass Without 4 card spade this wouldnt be that bad and if i play a system that 2h show 8-10, but 1nt is only semiforcing, pass might just be the alternative i would choose, espcially at MP. but with 4 card spade u can bid 1sp and then bid a very weak 2H (usually doublton support) I think in Ben's system they have 2c for this.

Asking for Aces after Stayman sequence
Flame replied to ArcLight's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I play 4nt as quentative and 4c as gerber even after stayman. About the second question, 1d-2c there was a discussion here about it, not long ago, i think it was in the non nat system forum but not sure, you should read it, anyway it seems good to agree that 2 heart doesnt show good hand, but without an agrement i would take it as a reverse and bid 2d. -
1[cl] - art. strong [space] 1[di] - neg 1[he] - either balanced or 2-suited with better hearts [space] 1[sp] - 2nd neg or balanced 2[di] - 5+[he], 4+[di], not GF [space] 2[he] 4[he] Basically opener bid 4H alone here , partner didnt show anything , only neg and second neg, and 2h maybe third neg. Maybe 3h to invite is better but not sure.
-
What is your goal contract ? 6H is not a good contract, i think most normal bidding will get you to 4/5 heart . In my system (polish club) it will begin with 1♣-1♦ 2♥ which show 8 tricks hand, partner although having a nice hand can not see a source for 12 trick, the continuation can change but i think 5H will be the limit. give me a Q more (even the Q of spade) and i might go to slam and probebly go down there.
-
Hi Ben what about a responsive X showing exactly 3 hearts with an honour? Al To play double to show 3 to an honor is new to me, make more sense to play it with 3 smalls or 2 to an honor.
-
I dont like this hand as much as others do, the hand wont play so well because partner when partner isnt strong, the spade suit rate to be wasted (he probebly isnt strong here). I would bid 2c if that show fit.
-
If 1NT becomes the final contract, it is OK with me. My problem is, what if pd has a hand (almost) strong enough to force to game? I know, you would say "pd then should check back if I really have I stopper". To me, it is absurd to check back while my NT already says stopper. And I hate too much gadgets which takes away the natural meanings of some bids. When I bid (1)NT, I guarantee stopper (at least Kx or Qxx). And if pd wants to check on slam, he will know I have some honor(s) on opp's suit. For the hand given on the thread, I will bid 2C and apologize to pd if it leads to a bad contract. You dont need to many gadget, nothing is easier, just agree 1nt doesnt promiss a stop and the rest will be clear and easy. yes if you dont want to agree on that you have a problem and start laying.
-
About the partscore argument, i strongly disagree with Ron, 1NT is a great partscore and will make more times then 2d/2c, and also get more points for an overtrick. also 2c is very likely to get us higher in clubs or diamonds, partner will fight for the contract, and will enaluate his hand wrong.
-
1NT, not as a lie :P good example to my thory that 1nt behind the suit doesnt show a stopper.
