  1. The first sequence is oviously made by non bridgers, just a stupid bid with no logic. The second, is a bit better but still far from good bridge. I wouldnt open a normal 2c with this hand, but i might open something that show 8 playing tricks ,like a strong 2 if i have it in my system. After strong two , responder can make a move to invite slam, but no more then that(bid 3sp not 4nt like in the example) After 1 spade, i would bid 2sp , now opener can look for a perfect hand that make slam, it wouldnt be a mistake to make a try, but i would just bid 4sp, bridge imo is not about special slams, in the long run i will succed more by just bidding as you did. BTW how did you play it ? There is only one right play here. I asked how did you play before i saw the hands, and after i see them , i see that my plan isnt possible , so my question is how did you plan to play, not how did you play.
  2. Both hands should probebly land in game. In hand 2 after north open i will alwas be in game. On hand one i have a way in my system to show 6-9 and singlon with 2nt then partner can ask for the sgl and when he hear i got a diamond sgl stay off game, but i think this north is a bit too good for 6-9 sgl (although this is exactly what he got).
  3. This is a nice hand i played last night The bidding goes (2♠) p (p) 3♣ p 3♠ (D) 3NT p p (D) RDouble**(i become brave late into the night) btw does my partner has his 3sp or should he pass? West lead K spade, how will you play ? (on the first club west put the 10) [hv=n=s7hqj43dq8732ca95&s=sa95ha8dajcj87632]133|200|[/hv]
  4. This is one of those things that i think its a waste of time to deal with, its rare and its rare that it will make a different, the most importent factor here is to make it easy on your memory.
  5. Why do you want to bid 3c ? its seems like you know you shouldnt bid it , so why would you ? You dont have the strengh , you dont have the lengh, you dont have the partner approval, so why ?
  6. The 5 of club is lead both its also in your hand.
  7. how is this a magic 6 ♣? even 5 club is hard on a ♣lead 5c will make on any lead ,you will get the 10 of heart, but to make 6 you need helping diffence.
  8. Ben im pretty sure you cant make 6c here if they lead spade, or even if they lead diamond and shift to spade. I think north's hand worth another move although its a close call, if 2d is inverted then i would pass, even if 2d is 6-9, its a close call and bidding can turn out very bad. south hand can just as well be Qxx xxx Qxx Jxxx And 3 clubs might go down 2. while 4c is likely to get double and pay 500 or 800 South hand had much more offensive power then avarage, yet i dont see south bidding anything else then 3c. All in all its not easy and not a big mistake to pass 3c (nothing you should feel bad about).
  9. nice system, didnt get into it, but i like everything but 1c, i would prefer the openings to show 8-16 and be natural.
  10. The header suggest that with good 8 i will bid and with bad 8 i will not. its not the same as to say, invite when you have 8 , and also invite when you have 9, which is how i understood my teacher. Anyway its intresting.
  11. I surpise by the answers, i think if i asked this question in an Israely forum i would get 90%+ of ppl bidding 2c. What does 2c show in your systems ? i was thought many years ago and im still teaching now that 2c = 8 or more hcp, did you learn it as good 8 hcp ? Im not saying that passing is bad and as a serious underbidder that i am , i might like it, but to see so many passing it, is surprising to me.
  12. I would lead anything but diamond low. There are biddings that suggest underleading an ace, but this one is not, stiff K in declerer's hand is quite possible, and there are no evidents that we should be agressive to take our tricks. (the hand Ben pictured with solid club is rare) spade lead is not nececary because we short in club ,probebly shorter then dummy, and we have high trumps.
  13. I would bid 2c, I think the hand got nice potential in spade contract. After 1nt-2c-2h i play 2sp to show 4 spades and inv, this is normal when 2c doesnt promise 4 card major, and i would be very happy if partner leave it with 3 card spade suit. 2c is what the field will bid so thats good too.
  14. Care to reconsider? Partner will not be amused if the QUeen of Hearts is stiff and offside The task was to take 4 tricks so single Q offside doesnt help.
  15. 1. 3nt 2. if i have a way to ask about singlton spade in partner's hand , like maybe 5h, or just cue bidding 5c which partner will understand as luck of spade control for slam, then i will bid it, else i pass.
  16. I wouldnt open this 1sp. If 4H is natural (fJ) ill bid it, if not, then 4s. I think the question to ask ourself is how far are we going to bid, are we going to bid 5s on 5d, or maybe 6s on 6d ?
  17. 1D - 1S 2D -3C ??? -3S this shows 6 card spade and GF.
  18. I wonder how you play those doubles, you passed the first round and then you found a double on the second round. 1. (1♦) p (2♦) p (p ) D 2. (1♦) p (3♦) p (p ) D Does it matter how strong is 2d/3d, if so then how. ( diamond is just an example, i assume a major would be just the same) 3. (1♦) p (1NT) p (2♦) D 4. (1♦) p (1NT) p (3♦) D With my partner i play this as penalty, a side effect of this (or maybe this is the side effect) is that partner should double in second seat more often then normal since i cant balance (this if i understand corectly is a bergen idea) When LHO bid a new suit we dont play it as penalty for example (1♦) p (1♠) p (2♦)/(2♠) D This double is a takeout with short spade.
  19. I used to play this as strong with two no equal suiter , something like 6-4. So 3D would show equal spade and diamond while 2nt would show better spades.
  20. I have a polish version of it, found it somewhere on the web with google. Its much shorter then the wj2000. Hope we can see a translation.
  21. Pass is the normal bid. this is the bid i would teach my student to bid, but i believe 1H is better one, and maybe in advance course i would teach that, but im definetly not surprise by the voting, even more then that im pretty sure that had good and known players like Ben and Free didnt give their opining of 1H, the results were even stronger from passing.
  22. Are you sure a game makes ? I think with good diffence any game goes down here.
  23. Im 3 handed player, i dont mind an agresive system, i would agree to play 7 hcp oepnings, and would enjoy it, but i am a disiplent player, if i dont have my bid i dont make it. psyching is something that fasinate me, but i dont think my partnership would handle it well, and by that i mean not only get good results, but also to feel and know we didnt cheat, if for example i would feel i knew this could be psych i wont like it. I wanted to by a book about psychs but it is out of print.
  24. Let me ask you 4 handed a simple question, your partner push to 5c over opponents 4M and you get -800. His 5c is wrong on total tricks but he felt they will be pushed to 5M. Do you just say ok thats just fine , or do you argue over it (even if not during the turnament), even if you dont have a fight over it, do you feel bad about it? do treat it as a mistake by him, or just bad luck ?
  25. I think you can bid 3h now. The point is to stay flexiable. 3h shouldnt show 4 card support. you wont get to 4h on 4-3 uless its right, which is when partner's stopers looks like yours.
