I think Ace and small to T wins to LHO holding KJxx and loses to RHO having the trumps, so it wins in half of the 4-0 splits ---------------------------- 2nd thought: OK I got it, Ace and small loses also to LHO habving KJxx: LHO goes up with K and eventually will score his J. No, it doesnt work for KJxx. It also doesnt work for KJx offside. But i still think its te best.

2NT after partner has made a T/O dbl?
Flame replied to badderzboy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
2nt natural, something between 10 and 12. Also your 1nt should be stronger then 6-9, more like 8-10. Jumps to game should imo not be weak, just a good hand with a good suit (5 cards enough i think) One hand i had problems with, is 5m 4M and about 10 hcp. last time i had this i cue bid, it seemed better then jump in either of the 2 suits i had. -
I don't think that is right. It loses to KJxx two tricks to WEST, not to mention KJX with him. Leading low from hand handles all 4-0's, and taking two hooks is the same rahter you play to dummy and if that loses and hook back, or hook EAST for both honors. So the first trick is low from hand and if WEST plays low, play low from dummy. The question is, if this loses to the jack, do you play EAST for KJx or Jx. Still thinking about that and how good west is (would he duck with Kx when low lead towards dummy). I think this is exactly why you should take dbl finesse. If you play what you said, you are still facing another guessing game. The more we guess, the more likely we will be wrong. Well, I KNOW that low to the TEN and then hook the QUEEN on the way back is better odds than simply double hook EAST to begin with. Hook twice against EAST wins againsst... xx KJ x KJx -- KJxx J Kxx K Jxx Kx Jx Jx Kx Kxx J Jxx K leading low to the TEN and then hook wins against all of those just the same (except for Kxx with LHO opposite J) and KX opposite Jx, but also against.. KJ xx KJx x KJxx -- I think the odds of the two lines are 76 vs 80 in favor of my line... sry you are right , i made a mistake , for some resson i thought ur not making when east has a sgl. Yes your line is better then runing the 10. But what about playing the A ? stills seems best to me.

T.O double with 2 suiter
Flame replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Thanks Ben, what exactly is this equal level conversion, does it mean a suit on the same level as the opening is not a gosh ? and upper level is gosh ? -
Robson segal suggest doubling with many of the 2 suiters, if i understand right, they wont double with the lower 2 suiter, so after 1d opening , holding the majors they will not double (fear of hearing 2c) they mention that in italy it still right to double it. Most ppl i know double only with 3 suiter. (atleast 3 in each suit) I heard more then once in the forum something that begin with the words "same level" which i think is related to this. Whats your approach ? This approach influence many sequences which you might not thought about for example: (1d) - p - (1s) P (2d) - D playing "normal" 3 suits double, this would be t.o with spades, playing r/s approach this is penalty holding clubs since with H+C i could have doubled. on the other side (1d) - P - (1s) p (2c) D is penalty for normal doublers but t.o with diamonds by R/S.

I change my vote, the A is better then the 10. The 10 is better for 4-0 onside, while the A is better for KJ offside. KJ onesided is better then 4-0 onesided.
-
Im begining to think my mind works diffferently then normal, both when im right and wrong, since like in the previous problem, no one suggest my line, even erick who supposingly giving all possible lines.

Iv developed my suit combo approach in the last 3 days, which worked fine till now, i first look for the more common distribution here 2-2 and 3-1, and find which way takes most of them, only if there are 2 equal lines ill check the less common 4-0. Playing the 10 (or the Q) wins any 3-1 or 22 except both honors offside. Playing low to the 10 and and loses to the J , then play the Q, loses to Kx(x) LHO and J(x) RHO, which is more then mine KJ(X) offside. You also lose to KJx offside. So oviously to me KJ doublton offside if much less freqent then Kx + Kxx. adding one or 2 4-0 wont help you here (actually only one that yours take and mine dont. Playing the Q is less good, it takes the same for the 3-1 or 22 distributions but as i said before when those are equal i look for the noncommon 4-0, and 10 is better here since it takes 4 onside.

I dont like 1S because the hand totally lack quick tricks, this hand will be worth its opening if partner has support but otherwise it wont and partner will count on getting little more. 2S is imo better but the problem is the heart suit. so ill pass it.
-
I'll run the 10, if it loses to the J ill run the Q.

Play A and then small. explaning: Holdings on which you have a chance: 1. sgl honor on RHO hand. 2. KQ doublton on either hand 3. H10 on LHO. 4. 10 sgl on LHO 5. i mention it at the end playing the A and then low to the 9 will work for the fisrt two. Playing small will work for option 3 or 2 or 1 or 4 but not together. After playign small if LHO play an honor you will ned to choose between 2 and 3. IF LHO play 10 you need to choose between 1 and 2. Since you cant mix them you better go for the better chance of 2 and 1 together, which are together better then either option by itself. editint, i forgot the 10x case, but its just the same as before, if i play small to the 9 taken by an honor, i have to choose again betwen playing for 10x or other lines, which still doesnt get me better then KQ either hand or H sgl RHO

It losses to KJ doubleton as well. True, but KJ is less likely then Jx and K single together. more then 1.5 times better if im not mistaken.

The "book" says; 4 winners - Low to Q, then low to 10 (when Q holds) - picks up any Kx, Jx, 9x, KJx, K9x, KJ9, 9, J, or K onside and stiff 9 or J offisde and loses only to stiff King offside. 5 winners - Low to 10 then low to Q (assuming 10 holds) - picks up KJx onside. Where is my "And the winner is..." :) I just need those times when im right to give me more confident if you seen me shaken at the table you would understand.
-
I would bid 3c if i'll think about it, seems like the prefect hand.
-
To make 4 tricks, you cash Ace first, which guards against singleton King (and J) and KJ doubleton off-side. Then from hand to dummy, covering whatever LHO plays. And you will lose to Jx offside, i think/feel its not worth it, but i didnt check.
-
To make 5, play to the 10, and later to the Q to catch KJ(X) onside To make 4 play to the Q first and to the 10 later. The improvent of this is that if east has J sgl, it will droped under the Q and you wont lose more then 1 trick now, while if you played to the 10, you would lose another trick to the K9xx onside. while if east has K sgl, playing the first 10 wont help you more then playing the Q.
-
Ok i play to the K, and later to the Q wather the K hold or not. explaining If the K is taken by the A. Now the post chances of playing Q10 opposite x when 3 cards are missing is to the 10, but i think this is wrong here, to the 10 loses to AJ offside, to the Q loses to Ax offside (both loses to AJx offside) but resticted choice tells us to play to the Q, because with Ax east might have ducked while with AJ he couldnt. If the K took the trick playing to the 10 will lose only to Jx offside, while playing to the Q will lose only to Ax offside, same thereticasl chances but there are two clues to play to the Q, the first, with Ax east might have played the A while with Jx he must play small. Second a hiddlen clue if east know my analysing that if he win the A i should play to the K based on restricted choice, then with Ax he should take the A, so when he doesnt take it gives another a clue that he doesnt have it.

Exactly, this is because 10 sgl onside shouldnt be taken into consideration while 10 sgl ofside is

what a drama , fred get into the thread and we are all waiting...

Your sefty is small to the J right ? Whats wrong with playing the A of spade ? which will make an overtrick. In general suit combination and especially safty suit combination are overrated, first because it doesnt matter so much, even here im not sure what the odds for 4-0 with 4 in west hand, and not so sure if you calculate the odds*imp gain/lose you will find you gain that much(my guess since this is a slam you will gain but not that much) Also playing safty usually leads to more risks on other suits, for example if the lead here is diamond, ducking a spade put you in the risk of a diamond ruff. I find many players focus in one suit instead of the all hand, on some hands usuall book hands this is fine, but on most you just cant seperate a suit play from the all hand play.

well both made lots of mistakes D=mistake 5D= mistake 5H= mistake 6D/6H=hard to judge those redouble= come one are you serious Id say west mistakes were more silly, east's are understandable.

Playing on the abalucy turney today, i was on the lead against 6sp with [hv=s=sk10hq4dk72cq109873]133|100|[/hv] The bidding was RHO - LHO 1S-2NT*(showing fit) 3H*(nat) 4C(cue) 4NT-5S(2 key card+Q) 6S The bidding seemed abit odd to me but i had to lead anyway. What do you lead ? What do you think of a spade lead ? If The A of spade is in declarer hand, this might cost, but could just dont matter if declarer refinnese or play small and partner has the J. If dummy has the A, maybe he will play it. The clue i was betting on was the 4nt bid, if he had only one of the other suits controled he would probebly cue bid, so most likely he got both red aces which leave the spade ace to dummy. Well stupid or smart it worked just fine and 6sp went down 1.(more then 20 imps between 6sp makes and going down 1) :) http://bridgebase.lunarpages.com/cgi-bin/h...1001&tzoffset=0

Maybe the "find partner" forum could be used more frequently now.

Its not easy, in the bidding double 3d is better, because you know ur in the dark and not going out of it, you dont know if you have a game or not, so instead of guessing , double 3d and hope thats good enough, this is especially right at imps, prefer 1 bird in hand the 2 on the tree. The second thing you should do is call the director to report the psych, its importent so ppl wont make this psych a normal bid.
