  1. Does it matter if it was (1♦) 1♥ (1NT) P (2♦) D
  2. What are this double ((1D)) 1♥ (1NT) P (P) D
  3. I dont like this at all, some ppl want to keep their score to check their overall result. I would suggest private score, the score of the joiner could be reset but not all scored.
  4. This is very minor so i never said it bothered me , but maybe its easy to correct so i will tell you. Since i dont like playing with ppl i dont know I find myseft many times loged into BBO, but not playing. im just waiting, i eat, drink, read, watch tv,clean the house... and everytime i hear the sound of "a freind has log in" i look at the screen to see who arraived , my problem is the names of those who arrived (at the right corner of the screen) are put in such an order that you always see the first message(the first one to log in), while newer messages are put behind it (you have to click it to see them) . I think its more logical that the last message will put above the previous ones. Long story but wanted to explain why it bother me. Thx sharon
  5. The polish 1C is loaded compared to the standard 1C, while the polish 1D is just the opposite, so it make sense to take things off the 1C to the 1D and not vise versa. And also this isnt exactly a polih question, you can ask the same about the italians and others who open 1C on 2 and 1D on 4, the could also change it and open 1C on bal 4D,2C, the fact that they dont mke you think its better not to.
  6. Happy Birth day Justin have a great year.
  7. You are obligated to give any information you have about the bid, and alert any non standard information about the bid, including possitive and negative inferences. so if you play normal transfer and pass 1nt you dont need to alert it is standard but playing keri when you and explain that partner prefer tont to 2d. I agree that sometime this isnt practicle and would understand if you wont alert it, but you should understand its off law. A side from this, the file will be much easier to learn a system of, if you explain that pass show invite with diamonds in Richard's example.
  8. 1♠ (2♣) P (P) 2♠ (3♣) P (P) D I think this one should be penalty, opener described his hand and if he has more he can just bid 3D or 3H to show 6-4. If you think the same then how bout if we change spades to hearts now opener with good 6 hearts and 4 spades, might want to double for t.o. Or what if we change the overcaller suit to diamonds or hearts, now opener might want to bid the lower ranking suit but cant. i passed this one when overcall suit was diamonds, and opener spades, partner ment t.o with 4 clubs, and we lost alot, since the double is before the overcaller maybe playing penalty is old fashion and wrong, what do you think ?
  9. This is great when ur opponent doesnt interfere over 1D. I dislike natural bidding that skip low bids too freqently, so it make sense that 1D will bid on more hands then 1M (unlike noral and very different from walsh). I think this way will have problems after interferes over 1c-1d
  10. Like Justin's way, will try to convince partner to remember it. (or more likely forget it at the worse moment :) )
  11. Just saw a link to raptor today. http://biomass.to/mycroft/bridge/Raptor1NT.html
  12. 1. lets assume you are not vul, you have 420 and want to get 450, but you go down and get -50 this mean you lost 470 trying to gain 30, you lost 10 imps trying to gain 1 imp so the gain lost ratio is 1:10, therefore you should do it if the chance to succeded is greater then 10:1. if you were vul it would have been 13:1. 2. it depend on the kind of turney , how many paris, there levels, and most important how long turney. 3. lets assume non vul again, you have -50, you want to get +420, and you risk getting -100, so your gain potential is 470, and risk potential is 50, and in imps you risk 2 imps to get 10 imps, ratio of 1:5, therefore if the chances of you to succeed are etter then 1 to 5 you should try it. vul this would be risking 100 to getb 720, therefore try it if you have more then 1 to 7.2 chance of success.
  13. Jlall I hope you will tell us your thoughts of this too.
  14. I wonder why 15-17 is so common, i see big benefits of playing 14-16. this 14 hcp balance is a big problem when u cant open 1NT with it. example 1M-1NT* 6-11 without fit now you can easily pass with 12-13 balance but 14 give u problem and you have to bid 3 card minor suit. Playing 14-16 NT solve this and 2m always show 4 cards. another example 1m-2m* inverted 10+ again the 14 hcp balance is a problem, its not GF and its not weak, normally people play 2nt showing 12-13 and need to do soemething else with this 14. Playing 14-16 NT solve this and you can use new suit to show unbalance 14+. Another point is with 15-17 is 1x-1y-2nt being 18-19 is abit too strong, and if responder suppose to have 6 hcp its rarly passed, begining it with 17 might be a good idea. you will see ppl argueing about the meaning of 1S-1NT-2NT because it doesnt make enough sense to invite with 19, but with 15 u open 1nt.(not saying this has no solving, just that the basic design isnt so good) What can you say to the other side, what is better with 15-17 ? And pls lets leave weak NT to other threads.
  15. Got any links? tnx There are good books available on both systems: The Scanian NT structures uses 2NT to ask for a weak doubleton. Its used as an anti-Lemming bid. 2♠ is an asking bid. The NT opener will rebid 2NT with all minimum hands. With a maximum, opener will show his better minor. The 2♠ ask is used with a number of hand types including: 1. Game invitational values with no 4 card major 2. Weak hands with both minors (A) Pass a 3♣ or 3♦ rebid ( Correct 2NT to 3♣ 3. Game forcing hands with both minors (Rebid 3M over any rebid) 4. Weak single suited hands with Diamonds Richard do you know eheeman ? it has 2nt to ask for doubltons, 2S to ask for min/max and show some type of hands, it also use 2c as pupet to 2D like keri. what i like about it is comaring to keri its very simple.
  16. I remember reading that book, i dont think he claimed or anyone can claim that sounds openings are supirior, he said any style has its ups and down. what he did is telling you that there is alot of psychologic factors in bridge and by being a sloid player, by having you bid, by not making silly mistakes, by not making "smart" moves, you will become a player that partners can count on, player who other players wants as a partner. Its not fun when your partner makes moves and prevent you from effecting the score. In his example he played with better player and as such the best is for the less good player to be solid, not make mistakes, and for the better player to do the smart things and give it the last push. For my expirence this is all very true. One claim that he did is today ppl tend to open light, then if u like to do things differently so u will score less avarages and have more chances wining (atleast short turneys), or if u just have more fun beingdifferent, then you should consider solid old fationed openings.
  17. To tell you the true walash doesnt make much sense to me since we skip bids with our most common hands, especially the skip to 1NT with balance, but decided to play it anyway cause it works well with 2 why chkback. we took the sytem out of fred moss cc.
  18. We started playing walsh, but im not sure about the invitational hands with 5+om 4+M. 1. Do i skip the 1D even with much longer diamonds, say 6D4M or 7D4M ?(invite) 2. What do i bid with the 5/6 om and 4M invite, after 1m-1M-1nt ? I used to have 3om to show 5+om,4M but after few boards with 54 i find out i dont like it much cause we played at 3 level with 7 card fit instead of better 2nt contract (system is design for mp), on the other hand with 6om and 4M its definetly make sense to bid 3om. So what do you think, should we use 3om to show 4M and 6 (sometime good 5) om, and with most 5/4 invite with a nat 2nt ?
  19. Ben im not complaining, and like you i hope it will work out, just think it wont.
  20. Do you think there is any chance people will buy that ? My guess is this wont work, and BBO found the wrong spot to look for money. we'll see if im right soon.
  21. This is the most common mistake ppl make about inverted minors. They look for stopers and end up in one of 2 senarios, first, they found they got the stopers and play 3nt opponents have more information then at other tables and give better diffence, second senario, they find they lack of stoper and therefore play in 5m going down one because there is just not enough tricks (5m takes 4 more hcp then 3nt) when opening the score they find out many pairs played 3nt and either diffence were wrong or suits behaved well (4-4 is godo example) and 3nt was made. Had enough of those to make me understand, you should only chk for stopers when you see a good alternative game contract this mean you have extras, so 5m is an alternative and sometimes 4-3 major fit (which again will take more hcp then 3nt)
  22. OK i checked and now i will quote "Opener starts with a 4-crd major even with 5 clubs and 15-17 HCP. With 18+ it’s best to rebid 2♣ instead. It’s possible to rebid 1M even with the strong club variant. Only in the case where if responder has less than 5 HCP and passes then we can’t have missed a cold game."
