david i tottally agree with you on the real problem hands, i didnt think enough before i gave the examples and i should have given hands with something like 5 card major. I do like the auc and in auc you bid 1c with 5 clubs and 4 hearts/spade, i think it might be better then polish club (which i currently play) however the new version (with the kokish 1h) seems like a good improvment , after 1c 1d opener bid 1h with all 19+ 1S with with 4 spades unbalanced (usually 5 clubs) and 2c with clubs and hearts, this mean with 6 clubs opener will have to bid 3C, he could maybe bid 1nt with bad 6 clubs but this is still a comprimize. So if you take the club hearts out of the 1c, you have 2c rebid to show clubs and 1s to show clubs and spade. out of the context i really think the new auc is very good.

First i didnt left it out, i said ppl play the 5-4 version because it contain more hands which i ment to say free other bids of including those hands. Second I didnt advice to open 1D with 5-4 club/major, i gave 2 ways first opening one of the majors (prefer spades) with 4. second open 1c new unassuming club style, which is kind of polish club. I must say that the suggestion to play it only with one major looks strange, but maybe it got something in it.

There are two version for this bid, a. shows 6 card clubs b. either 6 cards or 5 clubs + 4 major. The benefit of the second version is its covers more hands then the first version. The main problem as i see it with the second version which is when responder has a potential major fit and not a good and he will risk finding a misfit and going down in a too high contract, or not try and miss a game. eample : you hold Jxx AQxx Jxxx Kx 3 possible opener hands 1. x Kxxx Kxx AQxxx 2. Kxxx x Kxx AQxxx 3. Kxx x Kxx AQxxxxx With hand one 4H is a good enough contract to play. hand 2 2c is probebly our only makable contract hand 3 3c have good enough chances. So as i see it when we dont find a major fit , the extra club on hand 3 is usually better then the 4 club on the other major on hand 2. For these resson i perpose a middle way approach to the 2c opening. Either 6 clubs or 5 clubs and 4 hearts (could change this to spades if u like) This way responder with hearts have better chances to find a major fit, and even when he doesnt find one opener atleast has 6 clubs which make 3c a resonable contract. If we play this version we can open 1S with 4S 5 clubs which is supported by "the way forward" (on Todd's site ) system. or open 1c with it as done by new version of "unassuming club" with kokish 1h (on danial's site) which then 1c-1d-1h=19+ any, 1c-1d-1s = clubs+spades. 1c-1d-2c= 6 cards 16-18. Sorry if this was too long, wanted to explain my ressons. What do you think ?

Do you really think that passing 4♠X is not a logical alternative? I would rather be worried about XX being a logical alternative  (I would assume that this is a maximum for an IJO, but I am not so used to them.) Arend you are right but maybe you can bid 5c over the double for a different resson. The lawv allow you to remember your system after you make a mistake, but you are not allowed to do that because of partners alert, but maybe thier double when you are thinking of possible slams is weird enough to ring a bell. Not sure maybe its even a director style question, maybe after the double i would approch him and ask.
-
you got to bid 4S, you must not call the director for now. its very simple, you have to forget partner's alert and explanations.

I think its a good system and i am working on convincing my partner to play it. About the 5+4+ majors, i find an important use for the undefined 3c. 1nt-2d 2h-2s 2nt- 3c show 5-5 and ivite ask partner to bid 3M with 3 cards,3d with both 3 cards. This way we can find the 5-3 major fit below game and not have to play in 5-2 when we have 5-3 fit like could be after 1nt-2d 2h-2s 2nt-3d 3h- p This also mean we can make the 2nt abit more flexiable and the other bids more stricked meaning 3c is real max (bid 2nt if you have doubts), this helps when opener doesnt know if he should sup accept with 3 card major. (over 3c he shouldnt over 3d/3h he should) I think the system does well enough to the 4-5 inv. the SI hands with 5+4+ might not have enough bids, maybe the undefined 3c can help here too. About the 4M5m i agree there is a problem here, as we might go above 3nt when not needed. As i see it a partnly solution is based on the idea that showing the 5m is done to either check for slam or play in 5m if opener is also more suitable for minor then NT, therefore if opener is suitable for minor we have no problem going over 3nt, but if opener just have good hand and go above 3nt there should be a way to stop in 4NT which should make most times(this is important mostly for mp).

The idea of 6 or 4 canape is very intresting and i like it. I never playered strong diamond and have bad feelings about it. The points im considering are, changin g the 8-13 to more wither one, chaging the 2 bids to be more specific suited, changing the 1c,1d. Anyway would like to hear about the system results.

sometimes being very talented is what drive players to cheat. Bridge is a game of chances and its a game of which you cant use your talent to full potential on many hands, cheating helpss you use your talent, you are playing a different game then others call it bridge+, a game with more tasks then just bridge ,look at partner signaling, signal yourself, and keep opponents from seeing it,its also takes a great acting talent, and you have to be a cold player not to get nervous cheating, this mean you have bigger field to use your talent. This is my thory based on knowing one super talented kid (maybe the most talented in my country) who was caught cheating. Im ofcourse against cheating.

A for attitude K for count is what most play around me. I prefer always A. (k shows the Q)

Im probebly the only one here who know the israely team and as such i can tell you that i trust them and especially trust bareket who was sitting east who is a great guy (and a good player). I cant imagine him making things up just to win the match, and i dont think he was iimagining either.

if 2s is natural in the sense of offering a real chance to play their, it should show a good 6 card suit. you cant bid a natural 2s after partner prempt in diamond and the oppnents show spadesv with much less. I understand that this would be unlikely hand that would pass the first bid and therfore its probebly clear that 2s isnt natural here. Its not an easy case to say wather your partner should have alerted and what how should explain the bid, imo he should have alerted and explain your system with enough details that will explin the likewood of partner having a serious natural 2sp bid.
-
Got it now, i knew something wrong. I would go with the K/Q but not the J. Im not sure its wrong to bid it with even less, its a matter of style and either style will work sometimes.
-
Im surprise to see so many good players answering this question. Imo there is no simple answer, it depends on the rest of your hand, and also on the vul. what is your bid with xx AK AKQ XXXXXX I would bid 3C

i have just found the info about the protest system, i will paste it here : " Protest* 1.69 The Protest system was developed in 1985, as a protest against the 5 card major openings promoted by Goren's Goren's New Bridge Complete. In Protest, a major opening can be 4 or 6 cards, but never 5. Information from the inventor, Richard Lighton, Wood-Ridge, New Jersey. Protest Opening Bids 1C 12-21 4+ clubs or 5 card major 1D 12-21 4+ diamonds 1H 12-21 4 or 6+ hearts 1S 12-21 4 or 6+ spades 1N 12-16 no 4 card major 2C 22+ any shape 2D 11-15 4441 2H 10-14 5-6 hearts and 4+ clubs 2S 10-14 5-6 spades and 4+ clubs 2N 20-22 balanced The 1C opening can contain as few as zero clubs in a 5530 hand, and it denies a 4 card major. After 1C/D, 1H/S shows a 5+ card suit, since opener doesn't have a 4 card major. "
-
Take a look here 456 i also remember there was a system caqlled protest that had the same idea about 1 level opening ,the name protest is because they protest againt all the world moving to 5 card major and therfore made a system that 1 level show either 4 or 6 cards, but never 5 cards

I play blicki zmudzinki system over 2c, its not too easy to reemmber but i believe its very good. blicki zmudzinki cc

This 2d wont get you to good scores, it has many flows.About your structure it spends too much energy on not trumps showing stopers, instead of fits. the 3 level bids like 3h to show 4 card doesnt seems right.

high level answer on 1nt
Flame replied to tkass's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Imo its better not to have an agrement on such things, the chances to benefit from it is lower then the price it will have on your memory, true it seems like one simple easy to remember thing, but one thing and another thing and another leads to too many non important things. Also my my expirence shows that you wont be able to not think of it much, those less important things will be the first you will remember when you think about your system. -
Needed: study material on 1M-2C & 1D-2C Full relay
Flame replied to Chamaco's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I wouldnt call it a full relay but I play like the italian boochi dubin play 2c over 1M as a relay or invite with 3 cards or invite with 6 good clubs. You can find it on boochi dubin cc, or more detailed on the italian's woman pair on 2004 europe on the ecat site. I like this relay very much , as its pretty easy to remember and very effective. -
Serious/nonserious 3NT can help.
-
They give 2 options for the 2D bid, the second one is half natural, being at most 3 card fit, and the idea is to continue naturally.

WJ2005 is out in english on daniel's site, it would be nice to discuss it in general with other polish club players, and espcially of the new convensions suggested for 1C-1M-2D.

A premptive 5H is needed much more then 5S, there are many hands that you would feel bad if you open 4H and the opponents outbid you with 4S and you will have to take the last guess.

Overcall Continuation
Flame replied to pclayton's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Cant undetstand the 2S call unless you have some strange agrement that this is forcing. You have more then an ace above minimum, and im a solid overcaller. -
Namyats in a strong club system
Flame replied to pbleighton's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Namyats has more need in a strong club system, if i had a choice between sayc 1M and strong club 1C with a Namyays hand i would definetly prefer the 1M, and since those hands are too strong for strong clubs systems 1M, the Namyats has more value to the strong club systems. Unlike the hog said i think you should open namyats in precision more times then in sayc, since you just have no bid. Last week i held AX AQJXXXX AX XX non vul vs vul definetly not a classic namyats, but the alternatives seemed worse, so i opened 4C. not saying you should go that far, just giving an example to a hand with no better alternative in a precision like system.
