Its so sad to see people who doesnt want to learn.
-
A BIL friend told me that he was taught on BBO to respond to 1S with 2H even with a 4 card suit, i told him i cant believe it and maybe he didnt understand or something but he insisted and told me he asked this specific question to many of his BIL teachers and most of them said 4 cards is fine. Is it true ? is this a way of making it easier for them to learn a system even if its not the right system ?
-
No it show weak smolen not invite.
-
I think it depend on ur wjo style, i was with those who think this show 11+ hcp hand, because with most 6 cards weak id jump to 2H, but if this isnt true like jlall style then it should show minimum.

Topic for an intermidiate level course
Flame replied to Flame's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
The problem with teaching counting is that its pretty boring, they want more exiting stuff, but i totally agree and will force them to learn to count. I just run into a nice website that practice count. (or math for first grade) http://www.eastontario.com/conventions/count.htm and http://www.eastontario.com/conventions/count2.htm -
As opposite to books which usually take one issue and focus on it, courses suppose to include many issues and obviously not to go as in depth on any of them. What topics would you teach on intermidiate bridge course ? A topic suppose to be something that you teach in thory then give examples and all this suppose to be usually in no more then one lesson. I'll give examples. 1. Law of total tricks 2. hand evaluation 3. diffence matterial like second hand play when to cover when to split etc 4. diffence carding 5. squeeses 6. system issues basically its taking a book and giving it in one lesson What are your intermidiate topics. and basically any advices on teaching intermidiate.

I never ment to pass partner's 2!H, as i said in the oginal post, my plan was to pull 2H to 2S, this i thouhgt would show a strong hand with 5 spades but not great 5S/6S and would 2S now show. What do you think 2S over 2H will show if not this ? agree this hand should have initially bid 1S, but just add K of club or something and consider the same question.

very surprising, can you pls explain ? Im not even sure 2♦ isnt natural, same as im not sure a double now isnt penalty. might depnd on whather they play inverted or not cause if not then 2D show only 3 diamonds, while if playing inverted it would show 4D

play in 3nt or suit?
Flame replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I bid 4♠ my partner isnt necesarly balanced. MP is harder decision. -
First your examples arent too convincing because they dont have a problem with bidding 2S now, you even showed that you have a nice chance of making 2S and 4S(2S isnt forcing), but even if you were right these hands could suggest bidding 1S instead of the intial double, as many others here suggested , this is a matter of style and for that partnership this hand was just a bit too much for a a 1 level overcall. If you didnt bid 1S first then you cant pass now, you didnt show what you have. you showed 12 hcp wiht all around hand usually no 5 card especially not a major one and what u got is 19 hcp with 5 spades, not really helpful to get or copete to the right contract.

I was south Opening is normal by rule of 20. 4S is normal having a game vs most 10+ 5 spades hands, i didnt bid 4C which doesnt show much more than that. The mistake was thev redouble of 5!D, I didnt know what is 5!D and i bet at the table most player wont know , i took it as natural showing a second suit probebly 5-5 and redouble just to say i like this spot.(which again i agree is a mistake) I didnt think my redouble showed extra's and invite slam. I guess many would bid like me even many of those who give me heavly critisize the bid, if i have posted only my hand and the bidding (i wish now that i did that) Thanks all for your responses.

not sure this is even possible but it will sure wont show a good hand. But tell me this 1♣ D P 1♦ 2♣ P P P Why did i get +100 when all the other got +450 ?

[hv=s=sat973hakqdkqcj83]133|100|[/hv] Your RHO opened 1C as this is a bit too much for 1 level overcall so you first double, partner bid 1D and RHO bid 2C, what do you bid now ? 2♠ - simple showing my suit D - spades arent good enough I have nice hearts, i would be happy with pass over 2C D, and would correct 2H to 2S.

Where is the FD version :-) Thanks will try it.

Happy Birthday Free

HAPPY B-DAY have fun -
Well, it doesn't show clubs, does it? Seriously, it wouldn't be too surprising if it was alertable. Similarly, if there are people in England who play Stayman the French way, that will be alertable here even after the new regulations come in. AS i see it there is only 1 definition which isnt alert all other must be alerted, this mean if better minor isnt alerted then 4 card 1♦ must be alerted, and if normal stayman inst alerted then all other 2C must be alerted
-
Is "weak Stayman" really alertable where you are? It is where i live , every 2C that doesnt promiss 4 card major and invite hand need to be alerted and i doubt its shouldnt be alerted where you live but this is just guessing.

Bye Ron have fun Thanks for all the help you gave me and im sure others here.

Polish players lead low from xx, i used to like it when playing it, but i never liked this lead vs NT. With 3 cards they lead middle which i like but also lead middle for 3 to an honor which i dont like. I like these atitude like leads, I'd go for second best rather then top, when they suggest top. xX xXx xXxx xXxxx on second card id give currtent count like they do.

Play tips for newer players
Flame replied to mike777's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Dummies long suit is yours too, use it. Its strange but lot of player wont set dummies long suit, they will go for ruffs or use their suits' if they had player the hand from other side they would have played it diffrently. -
Club to the J.

If they have 23-24 hcp, they will double and then you are in 2D or 2M and they will likely double that too. The 2C bid will, at worst, end up in the same place but the double may be less likely if the hcp are evenly split. Completely disagree first you would at best not at worse end up in same position since 2D is way supirior to 2M here. [ 2M play in 7 card fit 2d play in 7 to 10 card fit] second 2D even with a double seems to be good gamble.

make sense, if 5D is a cue checking for slam then RD is kind of showing extra, but does 5D at this aution is a cue or a natural bid ? and if its a natural bid does redouble show intrest in slam or intrest in playing 5D ? and if you can say somehing about 4S i would really aprichate it , should south bid only 3S ?

[hv=d=e&n=saqj943hjdaj3c652&s=sk1082hk8762dkqtc9]133|200|p 1H 2C 2S 3C 4S 5C 5D D RD 5NT 6S[/hv] bidding is a bid complex wiht potentially many mistakes but what important is south opened 1H his partnr showed 10+ with 5 spades, was 4S overbid or ok bid ? oer 4S should north try for slam or grand slam like he did ?

Pass 2nt - very bad idea dont even think about it. 2C - has some sense better then 2nt but still not as good as passing. Pass is pretty safe , if you are doubled you can run to 2D.
