Its amatter of system and style, if you want to bid 2C with some garbage hands then 2C here is out of the question, if it show 6-10 then its the right bid , if double show ubsolutly 4Hs then its out of the question. The normal bid is 2S and id take it.

I'll go only for the first 2: 1. Geoff Hampson – Eric Rodwell 2. Fulvio Fantoni – Claudio Nunes

I thought the no limit makes it more intresting, you have to make tactical decesions based on your status at the turney and at the table.

im not looking for a formal syac answers, just bridge common sense. 1♠-2♥ 2♠-2NT 2♠ is forcing for one round. 2NT is invitational 1. Should 2NT show or denay 2 cards in the spade suit ? 2. opener continue with 3♦ this is still invitation, but would it tend to show 6-4 or 5-5 ? or in other words should partner correct to 3♠ with and a 2♠3♦ hand.

I think its also important to see the actual result of the cencoring, I didnt know there is someone who doesnt like someone else and talk about him over the net, im sure alot and probelby most members didnt knew about it either, but with all this mess i got curious and found the site. The truth it i still didnt find the it because the site with tons of information but i wiill probebly find it. Suppose the post havent been delelted , most likely nothing would have happend, noone who didnt know wouldnt have discovered something new.

I know your feeling Justin, i once got suspention fron BBO for few days for something i didnt do, I felt like i was betrayed by my own family, it was triable because ot came from the same ppl i admire and care about. However looking back i just have to accept it that the system cant be perfect, and we sometimes have to live with the mistakes made by it. If the system makes 1% mistakes then you can think of yourself as someone who helped the system by taking this 1% on your back.

Ofcourseits not hum, The WBF file more then imply that hcp isnt the only thing that matter.

Practicing Psyching
Flame replied to kfgauss's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I dont think you can practice it at the table, because the hands that you should psych are rare and wont come up the day you decide to practice (justin said 2 a year is about enough) What you can do is read a book about psychs, and also when you have a hand you wonder if psych could work but you dont psych cause its not a classic, take alook at the movie at the end of the game and try to honestly check what would happend if youhad psyced. Last thing, Justin didnt mention one thing in his article, psyches dont only has long term effect on your opponents, they also has one on your partner, and he might be less confident when things get tough. also psyching is taking control over the hand, you get partner to be irelevant, not many partners like that, we all want to be usefull. Basically i am trying to say that psyching is very problematic for partnerships and you should be carfull with it. -
Today most adjust their weak 2 bids acording to vul, this mean if you are a conservative player you wouldnt bid 2 weak unless you have a very good ofensive hand, a hand that on good vul you would probebly bid on the 3 level. Some more agressive would bid 2 level on bad hand so normal 2 level would be fine for thier 2 level on bad vul. If you are conservative like me, then youget to the point where your 2 level on vul vs non vul are very rare. Now i wonder isnt it better to drop the all thing and play those 2 level when vul vs not vul as a weak opening bid ? Something similar is the way some (like garoozo i think) play intermidite jump overcalls when red) A hand like K10XXXX AKX KXX X would open 2S. This mean 1S-1NT-2S is stronger. What we lose is premptive, but on this vul its rare those prepmts are needed. On the other hand our 1level openings will get better, which could help reaching vul games and slams. Im not close on the implications, maybe there is abetter use to the 2 level, just suggesting the concept to help our one bids using those 2 bids when they are unnesasry as prempts.

If i take out the majors i would increse the range. 11-15 or something like that could work imo.

Dont know the original acol, but in sayc and other systems where 2D show 10+ hcp, it should be forcing up to 2NT or a 2M preference (1S-2D-2H-2S is NF)

Is this hand looks like we want to be in 3D over 2H ? To me this is a great way to pay 500 against partscore, on a good day i will go down 1 against thier 2H makes and get a push ! The secondary problem is that next time i will have a better hand partner will not expect it and wont compete to the 3 level. I passed

5♣ my hand is initially above avarage for a reverse, but the spade void isnt good, 5♣ will tell partner i probebly dont have more then a singlton spade, and will help him evalualte his own hand. second close call is 6♣

Why double with a simple 1♠ overcall ? -
vul vs not 1♥ X 1♠ to you, do you bid (2♦ or maybe 1NT) or pass ? [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sqj4ht2dkj76c8732]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

Suits in different langueges
Flame replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I seem to remember a different word for spades, but don't remember what (my hebrew isn't that great). Something like "alleh". I'm not sure, though. But I had never heard the word "pic". I totally believe you, that people use it, but my grandparents were sticklers for not substituting non-hebrew words, so I know that they used something else, if only I could remember what it is. You remember correct, many use "alle" and sometimes "alle Shahor" alle is a leaf Shahor is black The problem is that clubs are also kind of a leaf (which is called tiltan), So this name isnt that great. Whist players use pic for spades, bridge players use the english terms. -

Flame replied to dougbennion's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Its not about what system can show more hand types, but what system show the right hand types, and how effective is the way to show them in term of cometitive continuation. -

BBO Money Bridge and Lessons...
Flame replied to hrothgar's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
My lesson is not about being perfect making no mistakes, the lesson is were you want to see the mistakes so you can correct it. The lesson is not were you want someone to be strested up, not the student but also but the teacher, when i teach i make mistakes, and i share them with my student, for his/her benefit. The time factor at money table isnt a good thing for a lesson. The Gib as a partner is also a problem since his play isnt human, not his good parts and not his bad parts, its many times lack a normal plan we make, therefore hard to explained by the teacher. The money factor is problematic, yes for the long run a better player will win more for his lessons, but 1. a better player isnt necacarly a better teacher. 2. The student will always reffer to the match result as to how he and the teacher did, while this might be true for the long run, it says almost nothing on the short run, and will make him misread the teahcer's and his preformence. 3. It will cause some fack lessons, where an expert enter a lesson as a rookeyinorder to full his teahcer and take money. -
BBO Money Bridge and Lessons...
Flame replied to hrothgar's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I was playing money when a student of mine came online which got me the same idea, but i think this is not a good idea, money table is not were you can teach or learn, its the wrong atmosphire. -
When you have a hand waiting for setellment, you cant play money, thats make sense, but you should give the proper message to the player who try to enter a game, not a message that he doesnt have enough money. I would think a daily reminder that the hand in question is still in queue and not forgoten would be nice. I waited for mine to be settled before posting here so you wont say i post just because i want something (like last time). keep up the good job, money is great (although i lose B) )
