  1. Sir, there are too many considerations to be discussed when such a 10/12 limited 2D bid is practised.Since you have specifically asked whether to play submarine approach or not ,I.personally ,would like to bid the submarine way.(bid suit below the singleton). It resembles, only somewhat, the bids in SUPER PRECISION.and having said this I shall be more comfortably placed for the further auction.(This shall require a detailed analysis of your all other opening bids and certainly that is beyond conception of this problem) THANKS.
  2. Sir, 1)I,personally, feel that opening 1NT on such a South hand is doing injustice to the system.Another reason to bid 1NT may be to outsmart the Robots on the table. (2) Stayman is used only if the player thinks that a better contract is desirable or as some play (a) an invitational 2NT bid next time. (b) to fool the novice opponents (Garbage Stayman) © to follow with many artificial or normal bids. . A normal stayman bid does indeed promise a 4 Card major suit and 8 HCP least (or that is what is taught to beginners). Playing 15/17 NT the North has no reasons whatsoever either to invite with a 2NT bid OR bid 2C .The given hand is a miserable 8 HCP and sometimes even 1NT may fail opposite a flat 15HCP. Had S opened a normal 1D then automatically a 3NT contract would have been reached. Whether it will make or not is not the point of debate . A NT opening and the further development ,opponents strategies and how to deal with those,Stayman and Extended Stayman,Transfers with more complex bids later,Baron or not,Texas or SA texas,Gerber or NOT,Quantitative 4NT or not and a host of other bids are beyond the so called ROBOT 's artificial brain. It is therefore undesirable (if not silly) to use these with a ROBOT partner. )
  3. Sir,The easy solution for those who dislike white background is to reduce the brightness.I have HEARD that an application is available for getting dark mode.Personally.I feel a dark background is not worthwhile to have.
  4. Sir, unless previously discussed this is a penalty double.
  5. The ROBOTS in play today are nothing but bozos .Many of my friends ,and that includes me, have stopped playing with them. .Another dumb Robot failed to cash two winners and thus set a 3NT contract shifted nonsensically to another suit and allowed one OT.The authorities may please consider to engage a better programmer
  6. Sir, 1) The TOD by North is just HORRIBLE. 2))If N passes then Souith hand is all too thin to make aTOD at this high a level 3)The 4D contract is all to easy too make on a cross-ruff. 4)After a TOD by North I would have preferred to play in the Moysian 4/3 Fit in 4H.The number of too many losers in D and C makes 4H more appealing to me.(Our TOD by N guarantees at least four two high honored cards in hearts AND no wasted values/length in the spade suit bid by West,).
  7. Sir,having a glance at your bidding sequence is it not STRANGE that the spade suit was never ever mentioned ! And if the opening was 1C then how come the response was 1D ?All in all it appears to be a strange system. Leaving it all alone I must admit that even playing a strong club system or a standard system we will never ever bid 7D as we just can not count to 13.One can never make if the spades break 4-0 as you have seen earlier.Although one can easily see that a safety play in spade suit will ensure 12 tricks in 6S how can one know the presence of a Jxx with N and the most important EIGHT of spades in S hand ?In a contract of 7D there is the possibility of a spade ruff on the opening lead itself. One easily sees the SJ in the diagram but not in real life bidding.!.All said we shall stop in 6S as its an IMP event and in 6NT when it is MP scoring. How one reaches these contracts and that too easily has been amply discussed by all others.I have to admit even any contract either 6S or 7D go down by replying that either opponent "may"hold QJ109 of spades or diamonds may break 5-0.But in a broad sense practically every pair may bid 6NT OR 6S as per their mood and methods.THANKS
  8. Sir, the OP must have had that ""extraordinary reason" to pose the question.(It is possible his partner had bid that suit or by inference from the bidding must be having length and strength in the suit.) Perhaps the contract was 6NT and this suit might be the only lead to defeat the contract by establishing a quick trick( hoping partner to have the Queen) with one having the Ace of opponents long suit.
  9. SIR,you have given a full explanation if one has to make the opening lead. If one has to lead the suit at a later stage and if one suspects declarer(RHO) has a singleton in the suit and that perhaps may be the Queen then one leads the KING if one sees Axx in dummy.(to smother the Queen)
  10. Sir,you have accurately described the problem.Incidently ,I passed this hand to a ferw of my students, some playing a variety of ACOL (they opened this hand 2S strong and reached 4S )) a few of standard bidders opened 1S but reached 4S.Two of them opened it 2C and LHO made a preemptive bid of 4 hearts when the bidding went 2C-P-2D-P-2NT-4H-P-P-Double -ALL PASS. This was doubled as there was no room left to find the spade fit. There was no defence even double dummy and 4Hx was made comfortably .The 2C opener got only the three trump tricks. This was enough to teach them the value of winners in any hand to be considered along with a respectful consideration of HCP.As a matter of fact the Losing Trick Count theory might not have come into existence if winners and losers were not thought of and only the HCP count was considered. The other day in the Sillafu match South holding 23HCP had to pass throughout and in both rooms the auction was same ending in EW playing in TWO DIAMONDS UNDOUBLED. Come to think of it that they were all world class players. The South hand was Kx- KJx-AKxx-AKQx. LHO opened a 15/17 NT. and RHO bid 2C (Stayman).NS could not have made any contract .However this is not to belittle the worshippers of ONLY THE HCP holding.THANKS
  11. SIR,the requirements are NOT bizarre as you consider them to be .Hence I, politely, beg to differ.
  12. Sir,as it is no one but a novice would open 1H holding the North cards.Further comments are hence totally unnecessary as also unjustified.Even going by old methods the heart suit is not is not a biddable suit.(At least Q10xx are necessary)
  13. Sir ,there are not enough winners to open this hand as 2Club.The KQ doubleton is also not a good feature but the hand has enough to open it 2NT.One would certainly not like to suppress a fairly decent 5 card spade suit but thats the way the life is.Thanks.
  14. Something gone wrong.I can see two of them in the back-ground .Excellent catch anyhow !
  15. Sir, GOOD LUCK to you. However ,in real non -robot life ,I am afraid you will not find any takers.
  16. Sir,Lawrence 2NT response takes away too much bidding space. We always respond 2C whether playing 2/1 or SAYC.Makes things far too easy if one really has the concept of constructive bidding when the response is 2C.How the further auction proceeds is already elaborated by other valued posters.Pairs may also treat the 2C response as Reverse Drury if they find it more comfortable.Thanks.
  17. Sir, the stop card means (as far as I know) that LHO is bound by law to take at least 10 seconds before making a pass or any other bid. However ,there is nowhere said that he may not take more than 10 seconds. Actually in my personal opinion North did the right thing by bidding 5S.Many would agree that a long pause and double means S wanted double to stand for penalties.(Certainly it can not be a support double at 5 level or a negative double). He could as well have passed to leave the decision to North.Indeed if the meaning of double is taken as penalty double then it was a UI.if If this is true it can be argued why did S bid 6S or was it in sheer frustration.! If I was EAST ,I certainly would not have appealed against the directors decision. As also the lead was a poor one in light of the bidding.I know I am seeing all 52 cards but in light of the bidding the lead of HK was marked.(OR that is what I ,personally ,would have led).As a matter of fact if S had passed after undue pause(as was argued by EW) many would say he was passing UI to N that he was uncertain whether to bid 5S/5D and was leaving it to N to decide.
  18. Sir,pardon me , ,of course he knows it when E plays the S3 showing 4cards. Playing Precision we reached 5C which made easily. It may be that even standard bidders would reach 5C if they proceed slowly and correctly.
  19. Excellent play to bluff the ROBOT. May work sometimes in real play too.
  20. Sir.I would rebid either 2S or 2NT depending upon previous. agreements. In our style my bid is 2S,which may not be a piece of cake for all.Playing Super Precision the opening is 1C which gives scope to investigate in details if opponents do not. preempt. We would play in 6NT .
  21. Sir,i personally fully agree with your exact and detailed explanation.
