  1. Sir,THANKS a lot at BBO for all the hard work. Bridge has become more exciting for so many thousands.Almost marching towards 50000.
  2. Sir,I humbly beg to be forgiven for my comment below. 1)I ,personally ,feel that the DIRECT JUMPTO SIX SPADE by North (after hearing the 4C bid by opponents) was illogical.South COULD have two club losers. .On some other day they could easily have missed a Grand. 1A)West bid clubs and yet did not lead a high honor.(to see the dummy as it were) but led the DJ. One is at liberty to draw conclusion from that or it may turn out to be a DOUBLE CROSS. 2) A safety play in hearts is just not available.A ruff and discard endplay is difficult to imagine at least on the table. 3) I am TOO JUNIOR to describe the line of play .
  3. Sirs, With so many lines available there remains one VERY RARE combination to be considered. Eliminate clubs after cashing one top spade ,wish that the trumps, mandatorily, are 2-2 ,(finesse is immaterial) ,and diamonds are blocked with either having DAJ OR KJ stiff or RHO with AKx .One can win by cashing HA and endplay either opponent who holds the HK. A possibility of dropping a singleton trump king may increase the percentages slightly. I, do remain confused with so many options available but shall normally take the 50 p.c. trump finesse ( having no clues).THANKS.
  4. Sirs, facing this preemption one has to bid something and aTOD is the better bid, Just as in an almost similar position I faced it went 3C-P-5C-?.We RED vs WHITE. .
  5. Sir,My query was meant for the method devised by Pescetom and no one else.
  6. Sir, play either Lebensohl or Rubensohl as per your liking. Both are good enough except for the experts who usually devise their own methods.
  7. Sir,KINDLY allow me to ask you something. How do you propose to show a hand with say about 15/16 HCP and BOTH but only 4 card majors eg 4414 or 4441 or 44 with 3/2 in either minor.?.(I feel it will certainly not be 3D) .Pass will convey as per your methods either 4S or no bid hand. Or does one Double and miss a Spade fit ? The scheme is one to be given a thought but i am afraid one may hardly ever come across opponents who play this peculiar 2D bid.I tend to agree with Mr.Kit Woolsey (but certainly shall not use the word "crazy.").Thanks in anticipation.
  8. Sir, What does one bid with 15-17 balanced hand when RHO opens this peculiar 2D ?
  9. Sir, pardon me, does this discussion really come under NATURAL bidding.
  10. Sir,I,too, would adopt this line.A few may play the hand in a high cross ruff fashion which may not work always.
  11. Sir,Doubling twice was good enough.A bid of 3H was made to find what exactly? This 3H bid is certainly a GF bid. Opener has already shown a weak hand with no good spade support. The HKQ bare is a combination which is useless for a 3NT contract considering that opener has shown least interest in a 3NT contract. In our partnership this 3H bid shows a stopper in hearts.A very bold action may be a bid of 3NT now, but I personally shall settle for 4D bid. After doubling twice and then cue bidding hearts is enough for opener to carry on to 5D at least if he has the semblance of a decent opening. It will be interesting to know what hand opener shows if he doubles the 2H bid by his RHO in OP"s system.By the way ,just going by the auction so far, I am certainly not proud to have these 14 HCP which are really worth only 12 HCP now.The hand has too many losers with no real source of tricks.
  12. Sir, a BALALANCING DOUBLE is a clear cut bid. A 1H or a 2C or a TAME PASS are the least attractive options.
  13. Sir. Personally, We would open this hand 1C and NOT1S .Since I have a ROBOT as my partner.I shall now PASS over 3H,.Certainly I do not wish to play in 4D, if that is what Robot bids.i may lose this this board but that does not matter.((after a wrong opening as per our ways in such a hand). We do not know what the hand RHO (ROBOT) holds and then there may be no defence against 4H if the LHO bids it.Why not take a chance and hope they don't bid 4H.Partner does not have the bare 5/6 HCP since he passes and also no entry perhaps to do anything like say D finesse.Worse if they double 4D.This is indeed a tempting hand and many hands can be constructed artificially wherein JUST ANY bid I make may br wrong or correct. With ROBOTS around you anything can happen. And lastly I am not a pessimist. If there is a condition that I MUST bid then I ,personally, shall bid 4C just in case the ROBOT has three cards in S or C. We would have opened this hand 1C and not 1S since there is enough strength to make a reverse bid in Spade.((and technically also there are only 4 losers in this hand). Then the bidding would have gone 1C-1H-P-3H-3S. 3S guarantees 5 cards since with 4 we would make a TOD.
  14. Sir, Here is a hand with an intriguing choice of opening bids.Technically there are only 3 losers in the hand. .Quite a few aggressive players may perhaps choose a 2C opening as the spade suit beats them all.My bid is hence 2C .In the present case as posted I would bid bid 4S and not 5C as there is no reason to think that 5S will make if partner chooses it. Responder has passed 2H bid so there is no hope of him having much useful. And one just needs a favourable break in spades and clubs break .
  15. Sir,I DID read indeed.I have absolutely no intention of denying S the freedom of using Puppet as and when he likes. Your earlier comment also asks S not to consider too much and just transfer. My comment was in relation to THIS PARTICULAR hand.If one still wishes to locate a five card heart suit ,very well.Practically all the posters have made the Transfer bid and no one has used puppet .Thanks
  16. SIR,First let me correct the address. I am not Madam yet.The mentioned treatment was handed over me by my Grandfather .It was published in the American publication "Bridge World "monthly magazine in the seventies. It may possibly be available on the net or from Ron Klinger site He conducts classes and also writes a daily column available from the net.He has represented Australia. This information is strictly for personal use and may not be considered an advertisement. If I find it again I may email a copy of the same to you.THANKS.
  17. Sir,the fist two sentences of your comment are absolutely genuine comments. We very often see the so-called bidding(unimaginable in practice on the table) when one sees all cards after the deal is over.We label such players as "MR/MRS 52" . I ,politely, make it absolutely clear that I have no intention of ridiculing anyone . P.S, sorry ,but this was a reply to Sir Mikeh.
  18. Sirs,The way we play a 4H opening is not possible on this hand since it fails the 123 rule. But certainly 3H is a possible bid and then keep quiet unless we realise that its our hand with opponents either quiet or make some feeble sounding bids.
  19. Sir ,thanks for the explanations as regards the Auction as well as the health problems faced at the time..
  20. Sirs, The 3C bid on the responders given hand is just not acceptable.3C bid is made when responder has one or both ONLY 4 carded major/s .Personally I shall bid 3H to 3S transfer and then 4S.(certainly not 3NT with a singleton D and unbalanced hand like the one responder has) A 2NT opener may have only 2 cards in spade but he always accepts the transfer. We have in our experience used 3C BARON with transfers and successful in bidding minor suit 4 -4 fit slams /grand slams very often missed by others. However I ,politely and humbly admit that others may not like this idea.I hope that it is not considered "ridiculous" Additionally we use Ron Klingers treatment of 2NT openers..THANKS
  21. Sirs,I have been playing Wei's Precision and also Super Precision..(Beladonna and Garozzo)for almost 15 years now and know how to defend against the 1C/1D opening if ((a) opponents play the system and OUR RHO opens 1D.(b) if we open1D and opponents intervene. The best way is to use a standard system and use the same strategy every time.Treat opponents 1D as a natural ((and for advantage too since 1D is limited to 15/16HCP) bid and bid accordingly as per a standard system..To the OP my humble suggestion is "Try and learn the basic standard system to understand how to bid if opponents open 1D." If opponents are playing any artificial system then one must know what their bids mean and plan your defensive or attacking bids right then and there..,It sounds difficult but becomes easy as one learns more and more.I advise all my students to learn the basics of all commonly played systems. One can draw conclusions from the bid they make AND DO NOT MAKE ALTHOUGH AVAILABLE. and defend or conduct accordingly..Artificial system is finished if either opponent makes a bid before you and then one HAS to bid by standard methods. It is my pure guess that the Strong club system being used by OP shows a 1D opening where D suit may be ZERO plus.Either a 12/14.13/15,14/16 or 15/17 or a variable NT and 17 plus 1C ,A 2C opening (11 to 16)with 5 or more clubs with or without a 4 card major (one or both). In my personal opinion this will require a plethora of natural and artificial bids like the inverted minors/Majors which can be added on studying the actual distributional and flat hands.(available readily online ) or actually dealing the cards.
  22. SIRS/MADAM.I ,too, was watching this game.No audio was available and there were no explanations available. Our pair was obviously using innumerable artificial bids. 7D must be asking partner to choose 7H/NT .This artificial bid again was never understood by South. Although I agree that it is all easy to comment when not on the table and sees all cards, yet I feel that North had very little justification for forcing a grand slam. The auction had probably already derailed.I was very worried that South may pass this 7D bid.And horror of horrors! South indeed passed !They tried to burrow a mountain and unfortunately only a Jerry came out. Well! Good luck to all these artificial bids.
  23. Sir,Is it not strange so many different variations can be developed after looking at 26 cards. Will not be it difficult to remember and then use in practise and that too only if the opponents keep silent which is very rare these days.THANKS
  24. Madam,I fully agree with you.
  25. 4NT --Choose the game ,but remember I have only three spades.
