  1. Sir, I would like to make an humble polite remark on your post.Pardon me ,but your suggested scheme means taking the present bridge back by at least EIGHTY(80) years. And SORRY for this comment.
  2. Sirs, I ,personally ,think that the 3S bid made here is an easy bid for those who play the LTC when a good 8 card fit or A nine card fit is found. It is the easiest method to describe a hand which exchanges valueble information about the number of losers in either hand and makes it easier to decide the level of contract if opponents compete.,Assuming that the 2nd hand opening of one spade can have normally not more than 7 losers (when a 5 cars long suit is held as in the present case),it is much easier to bid this hand. One strictly remember that the LTC method denies (does not guarantee) the DEFENSIVE WINNERS..The method can be equated with the Law of total tricks and the principle of fast arrival. 2)coming back to the present hands there are 3S losers,2D losers, and 3 C losers. That counts to 8 losers.Adding the 7 losers in the opening hand the total is 15 losers .When we deduct this from 18 we get the exact contract of THREE SPADES.The opener has 1S,2H,1D and 1C losers that is a total of 5 losers.ADD to the 8 losers announced by the responder and deduct from 18 and we get 5 i.e. a contact of 5S which is what would have happened . 3)After the TOD by RHO various meanings can be formulated to the bids of redouble1NT,,2NT.2H,2S,3H and for that matter a simple Artificial forcing bid of 2C. in order to describe responding hands with predestined attacking and/or defensive strength and 3/4 card good/bad support. These bids which I have listed are the least confusing ones. Thanks
  3. Sir,Although there are no rules as such I have got the gist of the problem. When as said the club is the agreed suit we use a bid of 4D as RKCB, unless three cue bids have been made before that.Thx
  4. What's the problem.? 1NT if one is playing SAYC or Strong Club, 5CM and 15/17 NT.. 1S/C if playing 4CM.and weak NT.( as per partnership style ).1C in Precision and 1NT(13/17)Blue Club.
  5. Sir, Yes .This is the scheme we play too.In addition, 1) if opponents ((LHO) of opener makes a conventional bid of DOUBLE for majors then we bid ((a)1H to show 5/7 points and a 5+ Club suit and (2)1S to show 5/7 HCP and a 5+Diamond suit. 2)If LHO bids 1NT to show minors then we bid (a) 2C to show 5/7 HCP and 5+ Heart suit and (b)2D to show 5/7 HCP and 5+ Spade suit. 3) This scheme is applied to Two suiter overcalls also.
  6. Sirs. First I apologise for expressing my views in the EXPERTS column. In our partnership we would certainly open this hand 2S as we play OGUST 2NT and singleton asking 3C bid for responder. Our reason is it may be too late to convey this hand if at all the bidding is at 3 level by the time it comes around to us.I express my regrets again for having invaded the expert area.Thanks.
  7. SIRS/Ms/Mrs., My personal comments are, West was too timid to pass a Game forcing 4D bid when she passed the 4S bid by her RHO. East was a bit excited when she bid 6C. The 6H bid by S was ,I personally feel ,the silliest bid.
  8. Sir, I played as a substitute in the above mentioned event.Match Points scoring As the cards were the contract was cold. [hv=pc=n&s=sqt753haqj832d97c&w=sahk765dq543cakq8&n=skj9642ht9dt6cj75&e=s8h4dakj82ct96432&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sd3s4d4spp6c6hdp6nppp]399|300[/hv]
  9. Sir,I ,too, would duplicate this auction of yours. Very accurate reasoning(or if I may say "logic").Thanks .This is an easy hand for Super Precision. P-P-1♣-P 1♦-P-1♠-P 1NT-P-2♣-P 3♣-P-3♦-P 3NT-ALL PASS 1NT denies 3 card support and denies a five card outside suit.2C is relay-3C shows 6/7 HCP clubs and another four card suit.3D asks for clarification.3NT shows a 2344 hand with strength located in the minors (at least Q in each minor suit.
  10. Sir the laws fairly fall short in such a case.If I was the director i would have watched this pair by using an observer to sit on their table in the future tournaments. If he had just daid "it is an undefined preempt in Spades " it would not have been misinformation.Yes ,I know that a player may bid 7NT on 0 points. .The problem here is he gave the HCP range which fell short in the 2S bid and it is here that the laws are FEEBLE and Cheaters can escape penalty.
  11. Sir, With due apologies and in a very lighter mood my colleague(And I ,with emphasis, say I am not that impudent)) remarked that perhaps Albert Morehead was regarded as "Albert MORE HEAD" in those days.
  12. Sir I am sorry but these days 2H is NOT forcing for one round at all..2H may be on say x-K1098xx-Axx--xxx.or with reference to this deal the CA replacing DA.He shows a willingness to play in 2H opposite a bare minimum 1D Opening. If he does not bid 2H then what else ? PASS ? And it may go 1D-1S-P-3S-P-P on some other day.
  13. Sir. with 18 HCP,SEVEN (we count AQ +AQ combination as one extra control) controls and solid support (Partner willing to play in 2H with even xx with you and a normal 12-14 opening) bidding 4H is certainly an under bid. 2S and then 3H(GF) over the 2NT (SHOWING A spade guard )wii certainly encourage partner to make 4C cue (or if the partnership is perfect 5C) in a sensible auction leading to the slam at this particular situation posed by the OP. Thanks
  14. Sir, I would have asked the meaning of 2Cx by RHO. If it is a support double showing 3 card spade support the partner is marked with a singleton spade .(1) 2D is a disgusting under bid (2) in our style we prefer a bid of 3D rather than 2S.(3) because of the underbid of 2D partner is showing his full worth with a bid of 4D.i accept and bid 5D.There is a possibility of missing 6D.In our style we bid 5C showing a singleton club(with a void club we would redouble 2Cx bid of RHO.There is no harm in bidding 5C) THANX
  15. Sir, Pardon me but the hand J-KQJ109- J-KQJ1098 is a legitimate opening in any seat. This hand has only 4 losers and 9 winners as played in either of the two suits Tell me how many winners /losers are in the posted hand .I do not wish to argue about such things in life.As you notice I have already wished GOOD LUCK to those who open the posted hand in the FIRST seat. After all each of us is entitled to have a different opinion. If you have a different one than mine you are certainly most welcome to have it.In life and on the table also all four may not agree to every bid and lead etc.I try to enjoy my bridge and since one is ASKED (or requested to put it mildly) to vote i have voted fior PASS and tried to present my reasons for so.Lastly,I politely say that NO ONE shall be able to convince me to do otherwise.THANX.
  16. Sir ,to me it sounds a club cue with an honour to three D support and of course 18-19 HCP as per the bidding understandings mentioned.
  17. Sir,Playing a strong club system the opening will be 2 CLUB and not 1H.We play precision (wei) or Super Precision and have the bids to show 5 carder hearts after that.As you know the 2C by way of HCP shows 11-15 only. Kindly pardon me .
  18. Sir,I shall never open this hand in 1st position. My vote is for PASS. There are certain reasons . (1)i do not like to quote the rule of 20 .(2)T he hand is absolutely useless in defence (partner shall certainly expect from you) ((3)NO ACE in the two suits.(4)Opponents can always overbid us if they hold Spades and Diamonds. If one opens this hand one may end up in a phantom sacrifice.(5))This hand may have a mirror image but in Spades and Damonds with partner.(5)I know someone in the forum (Sorry .No insult intended in the least)who says if partner has xxxx-AQxx-xxx-xx and something similar then we miss a 4H game or slam.I do not like/wish to subscribe to such assumptions of IF.OR.and BUT.(6)If one has been FORCED to open this hand in 1st seat I shall have to open as 1 CLUB as there is the convenient descriptive rebid of 2C.If I open 1H then if it goes 1H-1S-2C ,I do not want partner to give preference to Hearts with xx in heart I dare not rebid my C after that.I shall have to find a new partner. I ,most sincerely and humbly, wish the BEST OF LUCK to all who decide to open this hand in the 1ST seat.THANKS.Perhaps, i am afraid it sounds more like a novice or does it?
  19. Sir, Change your responses over the sequence 2♣-2♦-2NT. Else bid a poppa momma style 4NT for ACES .With your present half baked responses it is just not possible and you have to grope in the dark.Exchange your HK for DK and then how do you propose to proceed. You can make 7NT in that case.In the present hand if DK and HQ are OFF then its just very very difficult .THANKS
  20. Sir, I, personally, feel you will not be allowed to play this novel system in any ((except perhaps private clubs) tournament where one has to fill in ones system card before the tournament starts. The main fault in your new system is it is built around only the HCP and nothing else. You do not clarify if you play 5 card majors or for that matter minors((something new.)) in a 11/14 hand.Your NT openings do not consider the suit lengths and distribution at all.All said and done it is a very complicated system where neither you nor your partner (if you ,at all, are lucky enough to find a partner who will be willing to play this system) can even imagine the hand pattern when the openings are 1,2,or 3NT. Good Luck,
  21. Sir,South is the first one to be blamed. He has a flat 22 HCP with (1) no 5+ card suit where the power of the 5th card can always help in developing one or more tricks in a SUIT contract .(2)Exact 22 HCP and ONLY SIX tricks in a hand with only one 4 card suit ,the lack of 9 and 10 which may help to develop a trick or two if at all in responders 4/5 card suits .All these go against opening 2C which as per your system must have 23 plus(there is absolutely nothing in this hand to upgrade it.).(3)The concentration of ACES and KINGS is helpful more in a suit game or slam. The over rating is just not acceptable.(4)The 2NT response is a poor response .What is the exact lower and upper range of it?. A hand which has 9 outright losers and miserable 9HCP desires to respond a waiting bid of 2D as the responder just can not visualise a slam on such a hand.(5)By bidding 2NT he is forcing opener to show a major suited hand at the level of 3. which is absolutely unreasonable.(6)over 2NT how is the opener to proceed if he has say a 4432 hand? (7)How could he jump to 6NT when the KNOWN points total is 23/24 plus 9= 32/33 with no source of extra tricks any where,.(7)At the most an invitational bid of 4NT is far far better.(8)I put the blame as SOUTH 20% and NORTH as 80%.THANKS.
  22. Sir, Pardon me (1) As depicted there are NINETEEN and not 20 HCP. (2) Three suited hands with 5044 are not opened 2C as it lacks 22(some players require 23)HCP, as also they are difficult to handle in order to depict correctly one's actual hand.(3)The hand lacks the minimum number of QUICKLY establishable tricks required for a 2C opener.(4)The spade suit is not a self sustained suit. (5)Lack of 5+ defensive tricks in the event opponents overcall and partner has a misfit passed hand.(6)The 1S opening permits the opener to come into auction on next round just in case partner passes and opponents come in with ,a normally expected, 2H call either overcall or a balancing one. THANKS and GOOD LUCK.
  23. Sir, sorry but there is some pessimistic count of losers.TWO in spades as there is a 10 card fit, TWO in hearts,Two in Diamonds and ONE in clubs .That counts to SEVEN (As per my estimate.) A fearful one shall count as eight losers but certainly not nine.(as played in spades as trumps).
  24. Sir, with a 10 card fit ,to count three losers in spade suit means all SAKQ are missing and that too concentrated in one hand. Two ,and not three ,losers in a 10 card fit is correct
