A new TRANSFER style responses to the strong 2C opening
msjennifer replied to hylins's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Sir, A notable drawback of the transfer system over openers 2♣ is that one allows an extra bid to opponents namely a DOUBLE to ask for a lead or to show the suit. For example 3♣ doubled asks for a club lead ,or 2♠ doubled to ask for a spade lead in case partner is on lead against a 3nt contract The PRECISION and SUPER PRECISION systems have a clear advantage over a standard system by keeping the level low.The transfer method takes the bidding too high a level if 2♣ opener has say a ♣suited hand.Of course, its upto everyones liking..Thanks. -
In Quandari I gave only the North hand .This deal is one where a comedy of errors occurred resulting in the only makable contract and that too doubled redoubled. Only one pair achieved this .Here is the full deal. ALL PASS FINAL CONTRACT 5♦XX BY SOUTH. ♣ LED. As per agreement 3♠X promised four good hearts. When N bid 5♣ S took it as cue bid North having the ♠A and more so as EAST doubled,,so he cue bid his ♦A.Hewas surprised when it went pass- pass and EAST double.Taking the pass by N as a misclik he redoubled to guarantee the ACE. 5♦XX was easily made. Perhaps "Next to impossible" to ask for a diamond switch.Yes,declarer should win the King and not the Queen. This may not fool the defenders as a play of club 4 first and then the six next should make it clear that it is declarer who holds the Queen,The ♦ switch then becomes more attractive and obvious.Winning the queen first APPARENTLY makes the defence much much easier.Anyway an excellent poser . IF, and only IF,declarer DECIDES, for reasons which he alone can tell, that a 2/2 club break is necessary then if he ducks the the first club lead the defence gets harder.Thanks.

ABSTAIN.For obvious reasons.

4th suit game force???
msjennifer replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Sir, In the sequence of bidding described,2♣ as is NORMALLY played is a bid Forcing to Game.As to whether 1♠ be bid is a matter of partnership style. We bid 1♠ to show a 3Card heart support, and redouble with a 3 card good support like KQx ready to play upto 3♥ stronger hand with only 6 losers and as normal a bid of 2♥ shows a normal hand with 4 card support. We do not bid 1♠ to show spades. With the present hand we would pass the TOD by RHO.THANKS -
With a NINE card assured fit as also the 2C bid at adverse vulnerability there is only 1 loser in hearts. The total loser count is five.Take responders hand for a maximum nine losers .That adds to 14 and 18-14=4 .Hence 4♥ is my bid.May not work always but I am an aggressive bidder. In our system opener is not permitted to make a splinter bid and so in lieu of the possibility of SQJ9x of doubtful value 4C is out.Just bid 2H or 3H is not acceptable to us.3H invitational for what? 2H too timid..

Double, Diamond or ?
msjennifer replied to SimonFa's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Sir, DOUBLE.The easiest poser. In my personal opinion 1) Easier to respond for partner with a hand with either 4 plus cards major .2) convey that he can lead any suit of his choice comfortably ,if LHO bids NT. 3). I am not THAT VERY ANXIOUS to get a diamond lead .4) if responder thinks it better to pass for penalties one has the excellent ♣K lead. I,PERSONALLY,may consider a 1NT overcall playing Match points. Thanks. -
Sir, I am too junior to give an advice but the way I learnt Bridge ,step by step, 1.Read a book on a standard system.2.Read any good book on intervention bidding 3.Keep on watching international players on VU GRAPH and/or tables 1/2 in your local area tournaments. 4.BROWN ON WINNING DEFENCE. 5.George S Coffins A to Z 6.Coffins SURE TRICKS 7.KELSEYS BOOKS on Bridge.8.A huge book perhaps out of print on TRUMP CONTROL 9.LOVE'S Bridge squeezes complete.10.Coffins ENDPLAYS IN BRIDGE 11.Adventures in card play( but remember that even as a 14 yr old ,I found at least two ""COOKS"deals in it where the contract can be made on a double squeeze rather than the back wash etc as depicted) 12 Any good books on Latest Conventions in Bridge. Finally ,it is READ and REMEMBER as much as one can in the time available. Then comes PRACTISE what one has learnt. One must take part later in the various individual or Pairs events and try and reach the 50%mark.(Not easy, playing with unknown partners).Playing after 20 years is a difficult proposition. Sorry for taking a big morsel in mouth.THANKS and BEST OF LUCK.

The importance of knowing Michael's
msjennifer replied to pilowsky's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Sir, If one wishes to play Michaels ,one has to define the requirements strictly.Remember ,that if partner has an independent strong club suit ,one is discouraging him from bidding it.(If he is aggressive he will still bid it ). The spade suit is nothing to be proud of at all.It is not a rebiddable suit .For us it is a simple 1♥.ONE can even overcall 1 HEART and make a TOD later showing spades ,if one wishes, even at the 4-level depending on how the bidding progresses. At this vulnerability,we require AT LEAST two of the four tops in either suit plus a regulation HCP count in our system.Make the spade suit at least QJ986 heart suit remaining as it is and WE will bid 2♦. In my personal opinion,Michaels cue bid has a constructive as well as destructive and defensive aspect in it.We do not think CONTINUOUSLY of destruction as a number of times it ends in self destruction. The requirements are different when partner is a PASSED hand and where vulnerability is in our favour, equal or adverse. THANKS. -
Sir,This example means too much liberty and undeserving rights have been given to any host.If the host wants to remove the Gentleman, then he must give him a warning explaining the reasons.A sudden removal is unpardonable and also insulting.
-
Sir, The text books do not clearly have anything in them.1♦is just a simple overcall and now it appears suddenly excited with your 1♥response.This indeed sounds queer unless the partnership has specific understandings.Responder has not bid ♠.Who has what?.Was responder waiting for a reopening double by opener with 4 spades. Some partnerships for reasons best known to them treat a 1♣-1♦-1♠ as showing a five card suit. But would he use the negative double with a 4243 and a miserly 6/7 HCP.Very difficult to decipher this 2♣bid.It can't be taken to be a cue bid, unless agreed to earlier.Personally, think it as just a one round forcing bid to keep the level low.I am just wondering what should he bid with. xxx-Kx-AKJxx-Axx. Please ,I am not in any way suggesting that this hand may bid 2♣.
-
Sir, With a normal unsuspecting play it can not be possible to reduce the position to a two card ending with the lead in dummy.However.the line ,and a reasonable thoughtful one at that, by Cyberyeti certainly deserves consideration. Thanks
-
sir, with due respect to the developers of ROBOT in Bridge ,I would unashamedly repeat that it will be impossible to develop real intelligent ones. After all they use the very limited knowledge of basic SAYC .One can never succeed in imbibing the thought processes of a human brain in a ROBOT.If one just wishes to have a round of fun in the evening and can't find three more to complete the table then one can have immense pleasure in fooling the three ROBOTS.

Strong 6-5 but...
msjennifer replied to FelicityR's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Sir, Tell me will you really, true to your heart, bid 4♦ on this hand on the table? It is very very easy to suggest bids like 4♦ when you see all 52 cards.Such a person is usually called Mr/Miss/Mrs. 52. 4♦will shut out only novices and beginners. Over 4♦ opponent has the easiest bid of 4♥ to show a violent distribution hand with 10+cards and strength concentrated in ♠and a minor. -
Strong 6-5 but...
msjennifer replied to FelicityR's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Sir, It is a hand difficult to portray for unknown or new partnerships. We in our established partnerships play the transfer suit as MICHAELS.Thus 2♥ shows ♠ And a minor. In this hand if opener passes and responder bids ♣(forced response if no 3card ♠ fit)we correct it to ♦.A similar scheme over a 2♥ transfer to ♠.This does not affect our other defensive bids at all; There is much more if the opponents are playing a weak NT..However this is n=ot the occasion for it.Just to quote an example our natural bidding after opponents opened a 12-14 NT,easily enabled us to bid 6♣ cold contract. No other pair bid it.. -
Sir 1))obviously the NS were not experts.(experts do not forget their system etc unless they had 3/4 quicks) " He forgot" is a dubious explanation. 2) My bid as the bidding portrayed was, would be 4C . 3) I do not consider 2♥ bid a good one .The hand has only 6Losers as played in hearts and personally I would have bid 4♥ or may be even 2♠ 4)In my personal opinion the ruling was fair enough.
-
Sir, There are no SET RULES OR CONDITIONS laid down to define the ones status.I found that some of the players who call themselves WORLD CLASS turn out to be absolute beginners.May be they presume that they are playing in a field of toddlers. May be labelling ones ability PRIVATE is the best.No one can challenge it.
-
Sir, The ROBOT apparently can MISCLICK,. Since you have first round controls in both the outside suits it would be wiser to lead the HK ,just to have a look at the dummy and then decide what to lead at trick 2.
-
Sir,This hand is not the best candidate for a 2♥ jump shift.. I shall respond a simple 1♥ and await further developments already illustrated by others. It is worthwhile to go slow when openers start with a 1♣ or 1♦the two bids which need be investigated at low levels.with this hand one need not be in a hurry to take control right away. That can always be done anytime later.
-
Sir,Just had a look at profile.DONT,in my personal opinion,is a destructive method. It is advisable at this stage to play constructive bids against both weak or strong NT openings. And there are a variety of options available to choose from.I ,many years back, started with ASTRO,then a dash of Landy and finally settled for modified Cappeletti.Never thought of using DONT at all,as I personally am in favour of constructive approach style of bidding. Thanks.
-
Sir,1) I am assuming that 1NT was known to be a regular 15/17 or 14/16 .2)If it was so then declarer erred in not counting the HCP holding of the 1NT opener at the three card end position.3)I,personally,would let the result stand.4)I have not studied the laws in details and hence have no idea if the opponents be awarded any "procedural "warning or penalty.5)The double of 2H bid ,in light of the bidding till then, certainly can not be a ‘penalty’ double but ,as per holding, may be considered an ‘optional ‘ double as some partnerships play. But then, West cheated by saying it was a penalty double ( after realising that the opener has converted it to a penalty double) after the auction was over.Thanks.
-
Sir,I shall PASS this hand.3H is a forcing bid.Hand is unsuitable for a take out double.or 3H bid.
