  1. Sir,You have made 2tricks and require 3 more to down the contract. The 5 Card position after 5 clubs are cashed lets hope partner has jack of diamonds and keep A-,10x,Qx,No use baring the DQ as if declarer has K10x there he will finesse the 10 on the way back.
  2. Sir,thanks for correcting my oversight (or shall I say undersight).Of course the 2S bid is a routine Michaels bid.I misread it as 2C and not 2S on my mobile screen. So sorry and thanks again.
  3. Sir.THANKS.Indeed I was looking at a small screen.,After seeing more carefully I agree with the 3H bidI I DID see the RHO bid as 2C and not 2S.
  4. SIRS..I learnt something entirely new .I never imagined that the 1S-(2C)-3H shows a hand just like this.I shall be thankful if any one of the 3H bidders explain why 3H shows such a hand and not either a GF with strong heart suit or a shortness in hearts. My answer to the first question is I bid 3S as we play the LTC.8 losers with good three card support..This is our bid in any position. And last question why opener can not have a heart suit ? Why imagine that hearts is opponents suit and not diamonds ?
  5. Madam/Miss.Kindly consider my replies to the thee questions posed by you.(1)Certainly it can not be considered as madness to try for over tricks at ones own risk. However, personally I would not do it unless I wanted to make up for earlier disasters(.Nothing wrong in taking the risk as spades may get blocked or they might not find the spade switch).(2) There is no need to tell "What you take it as".In fact if you have said it loudly enough it might be construed as UI.(3)At the other table ,if the opponents defence methods were "small encourages" then taking a pause ,in my opinion, does not make any difference. The result stands. As a matter of fact, one is expected to report TD as soon as an irregularity happens and not when the results are considered too be unfavourable. 6. Sir.Kindly excuse me but I have said I shall prefer to bid 2NT (Lebensohl extended)asking opener to bid 3C over which I shall bid 3H. .Of course I have made it clear that such a treatment may not be acceptable to most if not all..Thanks.
  7. Sir. (1),I shall never bid 1 heart.NO WAY. (2) I can not understand why 2S is a game force WITHOUT ANY HCP .on his own.Such a hand would be opened 2C will it not? (3)Granted even viif 2S it is a one round force then having made the mistake of responding 1H earlier I dare not bid such a poor heart suit which bypasses 2NT,3C and 3D on the way at 3 level and hence I shall PASS the 2S bid as opener has failed to open a self sufficient game forcing hand with a 2C opening.By the way, I just might use a LEBENSOHL type 2NT bid and then a 3H forced bid over 3C by opener .However I seriously doubt if such a treatment iwill be agreeable to all. (4) Having committed the mistake of a 1H over bid earlier I shall be forced to show my six card heart suit AT THE TWO level when opener bids 2D(and not 2 S) since it has been agreed to as a one round force.
  8. Sir,Thanx for supporting our way of Lebensohl that we have discussed and agreed on.No opportunity so far to implement on the table.Just interchange the hearts and spades in the given EAST hand and watch the fun.!
  9. Sir ,we do not overcall 1S with such a poor suit.We want partner to make his natural lead if LHO becomes a declarer.(How am I to know partner has a GF hand.LHO might as well have 10/11 HCP and may play in NT.) .
  10. Sir.E for ENTRY,A to Z.Late George S Coffin.
  11. Sir,thanx. As a matter of fact I was sitting behind my partner and his partner was an old timer who used the rather unusual negative double. My partner did bid 2S and the old man JUMPED TO 4S. holding S- KQxx,H-XXXXX-D-X,C-Qxx which had no chance as trumps broke 4-1 .Th=e old man was furious and scolded my unfortunate partner that 2S showed less losers and a 4+ club suit.May be they played it that way then. However my impression was partner could have passed to be on safer side.We play the negative double after 1C-(1D) as promising both majors and bid the lone 4 carded major at 1 level as if it is a natural auction as we all know.
  12. Sir,I have read both KELSEY and RUBENS books and no doubt they can make one an expert in no time. However the mathematics can give you only a better way of declarer play .IF THE OPPONENTS ARE SILENT THROUGHOUT the mathematics will only help marginally. But certainly its importance is very much there. One can not depend upon opposition to help oneself .They will always try to mislead you by false carding.I wish you all the best luck in your percentages play.
  13. Sir,this hand is a problem hand .It has good points and bad ones also.1)there are two and half tricks perhaps 3 as KJ10 is a full trick as Culbertson would say.But no-one plays Culbertson these days except the grandparents perhaps.(2)There is a goodish spade suit but it is only four carded..As against this the hand (1)does not fulfil the rule of twenty and (2) there are nine losers which is a bad sign. However one certainly will be tempted to open .The RHO certainly has a hand for a balancing 1NT and the opponents will reach a normal looking 3NT contract. You were exceptionally lucky to earn 6 IMP on this deal (you could have scored the two aces and the HQ normally.) This hand would not pose any problem in Precision as it will be opened 1D.
  14. Sir,whether right or wrong that is what the profile read.A bid of 1H/S over his RHO 's 1D shows A 5 card suit and a four card one is indicated by a negative dbl.Makes easier for partner to compete with 3 card support for the 5 card bid major.Hence the question" WHAT DO YOU BID".
  15. Sirs, my partner held .S-A953,H-A97,D-754,C-AJ3. He dealt and opened (vulnerable against Non.IMP. Pairs) ONE CLUB. The bidding went 1C-(1D)-DBL-(2D)-?.What should be his bid?.The specifics of his hand are 6 Controls, 13HCP and 9 losers.THANKS in anticipation.Partner is a non passed hand. His Double is 8 PLUS HCP and at least one four card major.
  16. Sir,we alert all our conventional bids at any level of bidding. We do play the 'serious 3NT bid' as also the '4NT bypass' and we alert those too.As my Dad says "The rules are there. But still, there is no harm if one alerts ALWAYS.It is not illegal isn't it ? unless your opponents have asked NOT TO BE ALERTED" I have used the word ALWAYS because we did meet a pair who alerted a bid made after a pause, ,say 4C,when they wanted partner to know that it was a conventional bid and not a natural one. They did not alert the same bid when it was a natural bid.I think that is not honest bridge.(however it is legal as per the rules).---THANKS.
  17. Sir,After the second round onwards ,as far as I understand, any call above 3NT need not be alerted. So any artificial bid like the so called baby Blackwood need not be alerted if the bid exceeds 3NT.
  18. Sir,I am in 2nd seat so no Michaels. The straight forward 1 Spade is what we bid. Some may find it difficult to digest but that's the way it goes.
  19. Sirs. There are 12 HCP, THREE quick tricks,5 controls but at the same time NINE losers. Because of the 2H overcall ,although there are 6 available bids none of them is satisfactory to depict the hand correctly. If one is playing negative doubles ,let us presume upto 2S, with compulsory take out by opener then PASS is a certain choice but failing that the preferred bid is a NEGATIVE double which is the least of the evil.(Treating that AK10 of S as a four card suit).
  20. Perhaps the Robot has been automated to follow THE PRINCIPLE OF FAST ARRIVAL.
  21. Sir,i agree with your line of thought,I feel just as we were taught to treat this 2D bid as natural and proceed naturally.Opener can be 4-0-4-5 with a 12 HCP hand in which case what is his bid ? 3D? And does a 3d raise promise honour to 4 ?What should he bid with KQ63-void-9754-AK864 ?. And what should he bid with KQ63-void-KQ54-AK864 ? 3NT or a temporising 2NT/3D ? or 4D ? A consensus of opinion is difficult.
  22. Sir.How does one proceed without defining this 2D GF bid ? Does it confirm a 5 card Heart suit and asking partner if he has a 3 card support or is it asking for a diamond guard for NT ? Or is it JUST A FORCING BID asking partner to continue to bid naturally ?If opener holds KQxx-x-xxx-AKxxx what is he exactly supposed to bid ?.I,personally, do not get what is EXACTLY meant by "EXTRA" as it could mean extra HCP(upto what ?) and if so then what to do with a wild double suited with a normal 12/14 range?..We were taught to consider this 2D bid as NATURAL and only a ORF.With so many theories coming up the 2D is treated as a GF by quite a few if not all.Personally ,I feel it is not easy to concur with ANY SINGLE treatment and a partnership may discuss such sequences and decide the course of action.
  23. Sir, it depends upon the (1) VALUE of each honour card.(2) How good is the 5 card side suit,t (3)the number of losers. (4)the nature of support which may start from xxx and may go all the way upto AKQ. Accordingly with a limited hand we just lraise to 2M.(shows 9 losers) and raise to 3M (With 8 losers).WE DO NOT USE BERGEN RAISES AS WE HATE THEM. We play SST and LST after 1M-2M and bid game with 6 losers*(limited opening with 6 losers) when it is 1M-3M.(We do not use raise to 3M for fancy/unwarranted preemptive purpose ) ..Believe us, we have excellent results ,so far.at all levels using these treatments. The fact remains that the OP SPECIFICALLY asked for the sequence 1D--1NT--2NT. THANX.
  24. Sir, the system card shows the responses to be 8+ and does not specify the upper limit. However it appears that YOU play the responses to be showing 8+--11 HCP.If so then these responses become only LIMIT responses and can have at least 2Cover cards (an A,K and Q in any of the 4 suits are called cover cards). Game is possible if opener has 6 losers if the responder has 3 useful cover cards.Opener can find out by using the SST(stands for Short suit try) or LST (Long suit try). Details can be had on the net .I can not suggest the further development of the Auction 1S-2D (5+ hearts)
