  1. I am not able to chat nor can I see any chat in the new avatar of BBO.I tried everything but I found myself helpless. Why have they removed the chat facility ? IS there a logical reason ?
  2. Sir,pardon me, but my answer to the problem pointed by you is a firm NO.My partner ,with whom I play online, when shown your reply conveyed.'We have a pairs MP event every Thursday and Sunday and some 72/80 pairs play throughout the year. All the 144/160 know this method and there are beginners and experienced players both.None off them has any difficulty whatsoever OVER THE YEARS.In fact, they find it too easy to execute it on the table". I HAVE REQUESTED SPECIFICALLY THOSE WHO DO NOT LIKE IT TO JUST IGNORE IT in my post.I consider myself at 27 too junior to advice anyone except the NEW posters.Kindly excuse.
  3. Sir.I tried searching for this "Convention".I could not locate it at all.Perhaps the lady/gentleman who tried to popularise it did not get it classified as a new convention from the National/World Bridge Authority.I found it not very logical to use the 2D bid to indicate both Majors.Just by the way it is an easier proposal to use Landy and transfers in the 2nd seat and Landy and Natural in the 4th seat.I have found it acceptable to all beginners. I,politely ,make it clear that others have many more choices like ASPRO,ASTRO ,CAPPELETTI et.al. at their disposal and ignore this method
  4. Sir ,pardon me.After reading the description of the assets of the oppening hand I personally think that opener has erred in bidding 1S .Frankly speaking then he perhaps should PASS the 1NT non forcing response as Partner has denied a spade support and he does have DJ10x and CQ which POSSIBLY be useful for NT.Or perhaps they should employ any other useful convention which caters for such maddening hands. \\
  5. Sir,As regards DRURY,i personally have noted a small number who DO use it IN ALL SEATS.That apart ,I would like to know if GAZZILLI convention could possibly have made any difference.I request the experts to throw some light on it.
  6. Its pretty close.I shall bid game.A factor also to consider here is opponents are silent throughout. So I guess responder shall produce good 10/11.I believe he will not give an IMMEDIATE RAISE without a REALLY useful invitational hand in light of my bids. With a competitive but not invitational hand he shall PASS and then either compete or pass if opponents come in with 3 C/D.Considering his two bids the DJ10x and CQ may prove to be the keys.
  7. Sir thanks for your gracious and kind order ASKING me to grow up.I congratulate and wish you all the best in your ELASTIC and most highly advanced strategic enlightening bids in good old rubber bridge. And just by the way the OP clearly shows that the 2C bid was made in the FIRST SEAT.
  8. A 3C bid suggested by " ray p" would have been A BID OUT OF TURN and subject to penalties.
  9. Sir.The 4NT bid may be quantitative if they are playing GERBER or Blackwood or even quantitative again if they are not using Gerber but have decided to treat it as such.So it was not unethical to alert. Since the 4H bid was insufficient the correction to 5H which is in the same suit is also perfectly legal and as per my personal opinion did not convey any other information illegally. The Director hence ruled correctly. The Direcetor has the power to give redressal if he feels that the opponents were damaged by the infraction..Hence he rightly allowed the auction to proceed .
  10. Sir. as a number of this or that have been suggested , I would like to ask WHAT does one bid IF IT WAS SOUTH WHO DEALT AND OPENED 2C. In fact perhaps the OP would also like to know what is the bid now.To imagine that South would have this or that or he is trying to fool is not the question here,The problem posed here is entirely different.THE OP is ,I feel, interested in knowing the options available, because it is also asked what will be the strategy at MP or IMP .Rather than giving a straight forward answer it has been dragged into hypothetic argument.Certainlty S FACING A NON PASSED PARTNER WITH ADVERSE VULNERABILITY shall NEVER open a false 2C strong GF and finally get penalised severely perhaps -800 or more. And just a polite reminder the EAST hand is NOT A PASSED HAND so there is no question of one doing anything on the so imagined FIRST ROUND.
  11. Sirs/miss/madam,To admit frankly I have only heard of Rubber Bridge leave alone play it.As per my knowledge the NS require to make only a part score to make game and win the Rubber(WIDOW rubber?).I shall tell you our strategies for this vulnerability and with the given bidding .We bid 4 Heart.and then if doubled bid 4NT to show a minor suited hand with longer clubs.Reverse the minor suits and we bid 4 Spade and as before 4NT to show minor suited hand with longer diamonds. These bids may sound ridiculous and I certainly do not advise others to use these .With majors we bid 3NT (transfer to 4C) and then 4D to show longer spades and 4H to show longer Hearts. This scheme allows us to use 3C/D/H/S bids as natural overcalls. 0
  12. If ,as you say, result is immaterial then what else except the DQ.?As regards the bidding with strange partners is sometimes comparable to sheer madness.Witness the bidding .The player holds S-AJxx,H-A,D-AK10xx,C-xxx. His patner opened a 15/17 1NT. A nd the bidding went 1NT-P-2C-P-2H-P-7NT and all passed!!! O f course his partner called the TD and director booted him out.His partner proceeded af.fter both opponents answered 2 rounds of D to claim all 13 tricks. His hand was KQx-KQxx-Q9x-Axx The pairs event had been aptly named PARTNER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.
  13. Sirs/Miss,It is my personal opinion that just because the weak 2 opener has one card less there is no reason to change ones methods at all (so long as the HCP range is same). We faced a difficult situation when opponents announced that their 2D opening is with 16/18 HCP in either 6 card major and 2H/S are the usual weak 2 openings. (
  14. ABSTAIN !(with the given restrictions). The bids suggested are not warranted and desire a lot for modifying them to bring them in line with with some known gadgets. Most dubious is a double regarded as a take out double. When one is playing a weak NT,the responders bids, when opponents intervene, should be as precise and as watertight as possible. If presented this problem and FORCED to bid something on the table there remains no option but to bid either 3C or take a stab and bid 3NT hoping opener has at least Jxx of spades and we can scamper through to collect 9 tricks. A bid of 3S leads us nowhere if opener has just Jxx (3s does not guarantee Qx or does it ?) It will result in a clumsy contract at 4 level.
  15. Sir,the 2S bid by Robot was a FORCED BID,3NT is a far too ambitious bid.Where are the tricks to come from?such a dilapidated club suit?
  16. Sir.Quite so and +800 would by yummy.
  17. Sirs.your partners negative double is not warranted.I would PASS and that is why I voted so.Does he really want to push the hand to 3level if opener has a normal 12HCP hand keeping in mind that with 10/11 cards from the heart suit suit between him and his RHO the other suits may not break all that favourably. However if the bidding at all goes like1S-2H-DOUBLE-PASS- then it is the opener who will have to force game by bidding 3H or whatever as per the partnership understanding.
  18. Sir I specifically said AK as the pair plays reverse opening leads and would have led the Q from KQ.As regards bidding major suited hands I concur with you fully.I shall certainly pass the information to that pair also,(I shall have a proof to show them). Thanks .
  19. Sir,thanks a lot.I am now able to construct a hand diagram using the instructions which you gave so kindly.
  20. Sir with that or some other major suited hand he would use Michaels (a bid of 2D) or make a natural TOD.(with AKxxxx -Qxxx-Kxx).I was also informed that W showed specifically 4 card support. The opponents, although not experts, were known to be using all the bids and conventions in todays bridge.(whether they applied those wisdomly or not remains to be confirmed) As I said "why did he entice me into bidding 7D by bidding a premature 6S unless he visualised SOME defence to defeat 7D." As to why he bid 4H with a doubleton is make it APPEAR that he was holding a void and hoping it would prevent us from bidding a slam. They do underrate us ladies, in all sports, do not they.? 0
  21. Sir.firstly how can you get rid of the club 7 from your hand? Its not that easy.OH MY! Sorry I did not think that your answer was to tease the poster.
  22. THANKS A LOT for correcting and creating the hand diagram. Thanks also for suggesting not to address all posters/resders as Sir/Sirs.
  23. SIRS/MADAMS/MISS. Practically all are thinking on the lines of a VIENNA coup. I shall disclose the west hand after I say what I thought.1) West did not double over 1D but made an overcall of 1S.2)After the dummy came down it was evident that East had psyched as it was explained that West holds 4 cards in hearts for his raise.I presumed that E usually swill not psyche with Qx.3)West was void in trumps. He did not have a opening hand with both the majors,4)He was marked with AK of spade and HQ (at least it appeared so).I was hence certain that he did not have the CK East could have passed 6D bid leaving the decision to West whose Honour holdings were not THAT clearcut. What could incite him to lure me to bid 7D?I could imagine the CK in his hand.Hence the Vienna was out.To squeeze W in heats and clubs my ONLY hope ,with the picture in my mind, was if W held the J10x or J10xx of clubs .Hence after eliminating the spades and at the same time drawing trumps ending in Dummy and led the Queen of Clubs covered and won .And now the C9 of clubs became the THREAT casrd. The last 5 cards position was as under SOUTH H--A97 D-J- and C-7, WEST held H- Q1086 and C-J NORTH- H KJ42 and C9. When I led the last trump West was squeezed.West held S--AKJ764, H--Q1086-D-Void C-J105 Can this be labelled "CONTROL TRANSFER VIENNA COUP? I politely and humbly ask ALL was this not a bit of surprise ending.? I ACTUALLY played this hand and vouch I have not borrowed it from somewhere.. 'Thanks to all in advance.
  24. JUST HOW ARE YOU GOING TO RUFF THE CLUBS IN HAND ?To do that you have to discard the club 7 from hand first. and there is nothing in dummy on what to do so.If at all you could discard it then there are top 13 tricks and I would not have posted this problem.
