[hv=pc=n&w=sk7hj43d8763ca763&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1sp2np3hd4dp4np5hd5sppp]133|200[/hv] Explanation of first double was "rebiddable hearts, 7+ 8421 points in hearts" and it was made on ♥KQ8xx (does this mean an X of 3♥ would be made on ♥Axxxxx?). I don't approve of this bid because east is going to be on lead anyway so there's no point in asking for a lead. Not my main problem here. The double of 5♥ was explained as "7-20 total points" and said nothing about hearts. Surely this isn't standard? O_o
  2. South played in a making 6♣X contract. After a lengthy postmortem, E/W discovered they could not make any game, and 6♣ by south was unbeatable. Construct all four hands so that they fit the above statements. Also minimize the N/S HCP.
  3. [hv=pc=n&s=saj8642hj2daca432&w=shdtc&n=skt53ha3dkqj82cqj&e=shd3c]399|300[/hv] South played 7♠ on the ♦T lead, east playing the three. No matter how south played the hand, he could not escape a very unlucky down one despite his best efforts. The bidding was a standard jacoby 2NT auction. What were the approximate east/west hands if west had both missing queens and at least 3 hearts as well as 3 spades? Hint:

I bid 4♥ because I had ♠KQx ♥KJT9xx ♦K9x ♣x.
  5. because my partner thought my bidding was way worse than his
  6. I like your system I content myself with 3♠

[hv=pc=n&s=sq9762hkdq97532ck&w=sakjt4ha3dajcjt95&n=s3hqjt985dktcaq42&e=s85h7642d864c8763&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1sdr2hp2npp3dp3nppdppp]399|300[/hv] This was a train wreck of an auction, with 3NT going down one doubled on a heart lead to the ace and ♠AK back, followed by a third spade. Declarer took 5 hearts, a spade and 2 clubs (overtaking the king) and conceded the rest. Which of N/S do you put the most blame on?
  8. this thread should be renamed to "the mysterious redouble" (of 3NT)
  9. I voted wrong, meant to vote 3♠ > Pass > X Double is horrific since you're so balanced with a 13 count. I prefer 3♠ because I have the ♠7
  10. I think this is a vice squeeze that gains TWO tricks. [hv=pc=n&s=sha32d9ck4&w=shjtdtcq98&n=sahq9dca62&e=s7hk74dcjt]399|300[/hv] Notrump. North leads the ♠A, south discards a heart, west must throw a heart. ♥Q is run, east covers the king, south wins the ace and leads to the ♥9. West is squeezed in the minors. edit: apparently this isn't a vice squeeze according to a few posts above me? Also fixed diagram, west could throw a club and win a red-suit trick eventually
  11. that doesn't work though, south leads the ace, west lets go of ♥A, east discards ♥J, now declarer must lost ♥ + ♣
  12. the four card ending one? West lets go of a heart on the ♠5 or the ♦K establishes the 8, discard a diamond from dummy, now a heart to the king establishes the ten.
  13. [hv=pc=n&s=sktha9dkc&w=sa8hj85dc&n=s2hk32d8c&e=sqjhqt4dc]399|300[/hv] South is declarer in 6NT and on lead needing 4 of the last 5 tricks. He leads the ♦K West must keep two spades or declarer will lead a low spade next and win ♠K, ♥AK, ♦K, so he discards a heart. North follows suit and east must keep two spades or declarer will lead the ♠K next, smothering the queen, and wins ♠T, ♥AK, ♦K, so east discards a heart. Now declarer plays ♥AK, establishing the ♥3.

  15. what is modern standard we should add precision to the bots
  16. I'm presenting this as a bidding problem. [hv=pc=n&s=skt865432hq3d83c5&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=2cp2sp6np]133|200[/hv] Additional info: -If GIB has a balanced 26-27 here, he'll have 5 hearts, as such hands without a 5 card major open 3NT. -With 3 card support and a balanced hand, he'll use blackwood instead of 6NT. -If GIB has a 26-29 point hand and a good side suit as well as 3 card support, he'd bid it and then bid 6♠ over your 3♠ rebid, even if blackwood is a better idea. -If GIB has a 26-29 point hand with a good side suit and 2 card support, he'll bid 6NT over 2♠. -GIB might bid 6NT with a void spade and 26-29 HCP. Your call. Bonus: GIB opened 3NT on another hand with ♠Kx ♥AKx ♦AKQJ9 ♣KQx, I bid 4♠ which is undefined, and GIB bid 5♦ which literally gives no information that wasn't given with the 3NT opener (2-5 diamonds, etc)
