  1. If the bidding goes : 1♥ - - 1♠ 2♥ I think that it is a lot easier for partner to bid than with 1♥ - - Dbl 2♥ By the way, with that hand, you can maybe also reopen with a dbl later. The most important is to show your 5♠ suit !
  2. I know that most of the books tell that when in balancing seat you have to double with opening values but believe me, you can simply play the suit reopening as if it was an overcall and only double with 16+ hands !
  3. Ben, I never said that I would not play in diamonds but i'm interested if partner has something in ♣ and he will say it by bidding 4♥ or 4♠ ! Alain
  4. Yes, absolutely when I'm weak (0-7 immediate 0-9 after balancing !) 6♠ 11-14 Yes ! Yes ! lol
  5. For me that's natural ! 4♣ = slamish hand with ♠ and ♣ ! If I want to agree ♦ for a slam I simply bid 4 ♦ (bridge can be simple sometimes :) )
  6. If partner bid only 2♠, I think that the bidding is finished and I certainly would not bid 3♣ after having bid 2♦. 2♣ only says to partner that I'm weak with 4♣ and without 3 cards in ♠ I will only bid ♦ or NT if partner shows a monster hand with a cue bid !
  7. Not for me ! No, I don't want to hear partner bid 4♠ as I don't have anything good for him 2♣ gives more room to partner !
  8. Hi mrdct ! I'm a big fan of vu-graph and both are fine for me if there are comparisons ! However, I think that it would be better to see both semis so that the persons who personnally know the players can choose which table to watch. Alain
  9. 2♥ for me (waiting, does not deny extra's), not enough for a reverse ! (note : 2/1 is not GF in my system !)
  10. Absolutely right ! I have this book ! I also confirm that "Le squeeze simple pas à pas" is very well written and gives a very good approach of simple squeezes !
  11. 2♥ - 2♠ 3♦ - 4♥ :) 2♥ : strong with ♥ (5+) and another or Muiderberg in ♠+minor 2♠ relay 3♦ : strong with ♥ and ♦ 4♥ to play !
  12. 1♠ or 2♠ muiderberg but never 1♣ : hand is not strong enough, too many losers !
  13. 1) No 2) Pass (I already bid my hand with 2♥ and I think I should have bid only 1♥)
  14. When you are pretty sure that it wouldn't be passed out, it is always good to introduce your suit ! Further cue bids and TO doubles can help you to tell your strength later ! I would also bid 1♦ (don't want my partner to come with ♠ at a high level !!)
  15. I'm also with Gerben and Justin (very good examples !!) ! Zar can only be used to re-evaluate the hand after a fit is found  Alain
  16. Totally agree ! Same for me, 1 NT !
  17. If I have support for partner suit, I support and I prefer much more to conserve this kind of double to show a misfitting hand with points (partner can sit or run!)
  18. 1. Basically take out with short (2) ♦, of course you can transform it with max and ♦ opposition ! 2. He can pass or choose the minor you ask with your first dbl. Instead, he dbl so it shows values and it's purely penalty oriented I think
  19. 1♠ on every hand ! 1st : you don't support ♣ 2nd: 3 cards fit are easy to find and ♠ are paying more than ♣ 3rd : you can eventually dbl after for take out if they are in ♥ and you don't want to let them play !
  20. I have nothing else than 3NT but of course can be catastrophic ! ;)
  21. Totally agree with junyi_zhu, 1NT is the more descriptive bid and since you have a lot of space to investigate for stoppers, I really don't see why it should be preferable to lie in ♣ or on the length in ♦. ;) These lies can be catastrophic in further bids and can lead to poor games or slams ! :D
  22. Ben, Cards for the Olympiads are also on Ecats ! :) http://www.ecatsbridge.com/documents/docde...ympiad+Istanbul Alain
