Very difficult hand (for both North and South) , Wayne ! :) As I always say, this is why we all do preempts ! I hope not to have such hands often in the coming year :P Happy new year all ! :) Alain
Yes, you are right guys ! :) ♥ is the killing lead and Giorgio Duboin found it at the speed of light last night on BBO ! Here is the full hand : [hv=d=s&v=e&n=s52hq87d62cq106432&w=sakh42dakqj9873c5&e=sq10873haj53d10ckj7&s=sj964hk1096d54ca98]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
You are south with this hand : [hv=v=e&s=sj964hk1096d54ca98]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] and you hear : W E 2♦* 2♠** 3♦ 3♠ 4♦ 4♥ 4♠ 4NT 5♠ 6NT * Forcing Game ** 1 major ace What's your lead ?
Euh....., I think I will pass ! That's really weak but sometimes as it is favorable (depends on opps, state of the match) I would maybe open 2♣, showing both majors weak in my system !
In french standard, this is a 2♦ FG opening ! 2♦ 2♥ 2NT FG, bal, 24-25 Don't like 3♦ because the hand is closer to a balanced one and 2NT allows Puppet continuation.
Rubenshol hardly helps.. btw, and makes it even worse..... imagine... 1NT-(2S)-3D-(p) 3H-(4S) - ? (the similar auction). Yes, you are right, if 3♦ can be long and weak ♥ to stop in 3♥ then you don't have forcing pass anymore
