It would be interesting to get to know in which fields of collecting the members are passionated. I have been collecting books about mountaineering, especially Himalaya climbing for about 14 years, having now a small library with titels in polish, german and english. Robert

Common Bridge Player types
Aberlour10 replied to badderzboy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I would add: "The music freak", his style of play depends on the kind of music he listens during the playing. If Guns & Roses "Welcome to the Jungle"- he doubles and redoubles by every possibility, if Mozart's "Requiem" - he falls for 10 minutes in deep thoughts about the right lead in the partscore :( :) Robert -
I would definitely prefer to watch both tables, because the ability to swich between the rooms on the key hands of the match makes the vugraph show more exciting for me. I mean especially the declarer play and defense on the same boards. Robert

Both teams have a very strong defence, so I expect a very "tactical" match with extra time & penalties...My choice: Italy will win, because they have the best goalkeeper in the tournament. Robert

My choice: In summer 1994 I visited Pink Floyd outdoor concert in Cologne/Germany. They stopped there during their The Division Bell World Tour. This concert was by far the best sounding outdoor concert I have ever heard. (nearly the studio quality) Pink Floyd used all of the modern media - lights, video, lasers, effects, and props. These guys are still one of the greatest bands of all time, the absence of founding member Roger Waters was not going to influence the greatness of this show Pink Floyd released an album of live music from The Division Bell Tour entitled P*U*L*S*E. This album represents the joining of two great albums The Division Bell, and Dark Side of the Moon(1973), which was played entirely during The Division Bell Tour...this was for me the greatest experience in that concert. I was really astonished that the Argentinian coach substituted out his "key player" Riquelme so early. Robert -
Samba will meet tango at the final day in Berlin. Robert

I picked this song for the thread "Greatest Rock'n'Roll songs" Bob Dylan himself recognized Jimi's cover version as the best. Robert

My pick: "Roadhouse Blues" written by The Doors, covered by The Jeff Healey Band Robert

Another match with more controversial Ref' decisions took place. What do you think about the red card for Materazzi and the penalty situation in the last minute? I think both decisions were wrong. Robert -

This time they won't have such a unbelievably lucky draw as in 2002: World Cup 2002 1/8 vs Paraguay 1/4 vs USA 1/2 vs South Korea World Cup 2006 1/8 vs Sweden 1/4 vs probably Argentina 1/2 vs probably Italy, France or......? If the Argentinians will show their "normal" performance the chances for Germany to get through are rather small. Robert -

Serious Foul Play - FIFA (Law 12) A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play. Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play. http://www.fifa.com/documents/fifa/laws/LOTG2006_e.pdf I think it clarify the whole thing. I strongly disagree with this opinion. Both red cards have had a "deep red coulor"(dangery of very serious injuries) und the third yellow/red was correctly too. Most of tv-commentators meant, the referee was the best man on the field. -
Best: All Along The Watchtower -performed by J. Hendrix, written by B.Dylan Favorite: Sultans of Swing -written & performed by Dire Straits Robert
