  1. the "trick" with delating of the db file works very good for the owners of older PC's (such a me & 2 BBO friends of me) The log-in time has been reduceed to about 10-20 seconds if we keep this file under 5MB... Robert
  2. Good, that FIFA doesn't follow the logic of the WBF ranking rules, if they do it, Brazil would ranked 18 and Argentina 35 in world soccer :) :P Robert
  3. Could it be that European championships involve several different Bridge Organizations sending their champs to an international event, while the ACBL's events are for the championship of a single Bridge Organization (the ACBL)? The field of every 3 major ACBL team championships includes the most of non american world stars (playing for the great american sponsors) .These line up's are surly not "weaker" as in a major european teams events. From this point of view it's poor policy not to rank succeses in Vanderbilt, Spingold & Reisinger... Robert
  4. No doubt, an ultimate American Dream Team  It's interesting ....which "format" will be used for this event, maybe combinated like a Ryder Cup (started at the same weekend near Dublin) IMPs & BAMs? Robert
  5. According to the ACBL Daily Bulletin #9 a new top event of the world bridge will take place on Sept 17-20 2006 in Dublin...North America meets Europe for a challenge match with 12 players on each side. http://web2.acbl.org/nabcbulletins/2005fall/db9.pdf [page 1] If "you" would be a non playing captain of both teams :) which pairs would you nominate for this event? Robert
  6. The ACBL Ethical Oversight Committee found the italian pair guilty of violating Law 73... http://web2.acbl.org/nabcbulletins/2005fall/db6.pdf
  7. Hi @ll I would like to ask why some hands played in the main bridge club stay without any comparsion last time. Today for ex. there were 2 boards that any other table in main club played during 1,5 h... (that was "normal" table, no GIBs) Robert
  8. I am not really surprised, something goes wrong in the nominate system of the Polish Bridge Union, the top pair Balicki-Zmudzinski saw it coming and cancelled their start early this year for that reason. (they play Transnational Teams) Robert
  9. The odds for the absolut favorites Italy and USA will be probably very low, but if there are some about 9-1 or 10-1 for the winning of the BB by Netherlands, I will bet some € B) Team Oranjes is my "black horse" this year! Robert
  10. Pink Floyd's "Pulse" is one of my favorite CDs for the long bridge sessions. A few time ago I terribly missplayed 3NT while I listened these lyrics from "Brain Damage"... "There's someone in my head but it's not me"...... THAT WAS TRUE!!!! ;) Robert
  11. A very old polish joke out of topic: "If you watch four students talking together at polish university campus, you can be sure they arrange a rubber bridge session, if there are only three of them, they are going to start some kind of revolution :) Robert
  12. hi @ll As a "main club player" I appreciate this new policy that may solve fast the problem with the table jumping. I never leave the table without any announcement but one thing is not clear for me... It happens ...I leave the table when I sit as a dummy some tricks before the hand is over ( I play 99% of hands with the same partner and she accepts it) My question is, do I get registered in such case? Robert
  13. Wszystkiego najlepszego w Dniu Urodzin; Ben B)
  14. very close match in 1/8 final between team Welland and team Ekeblad [Fred's team], after 3/4 Welland led with 1 imp 86-85 Does anybody know the final result yet?
  15. ... more pics from the prize giving ceremony on last Saturday at: http://www.pzbs.pl/wyniki/2005/zagranica/t...f18/galeria.htm Robert
  16. Something out of topic.. By review of the vugraph schedule for upcoming weeks, I missed the annonce for the broadcast of the Spingold Knockout Teams. The semi- & finals were traditionally transmiting by BBO, not this year? Robert
  17. Hi @ll According to the information from the site of Polish Bridge Union, the Apeal Committe disqualified the pair Buratti-Lanzarotti and team Lavazza after a very strong incident on board #23... One of the polish TD discriebes details of this situation on the site, but unfortunately I am not able to translate it to english (my english is rather poor) http://www.pzbs.pl/wyniki/2005/zagranica/t.../relacje/03.htm EDIT: Gerben gave the explaination in the same time, I wrote this posting :)
  18. Hi @ll I have found at the site of Polish Bridge Union a gallery with photos taken at the friday evening party in Tenerife...(with Fred, Sheri, Roland, Migry and other BBO people ) If you are interested in: http://www.pzbs.pl/wyniki/2005/zagranica/t...f01/galeria.htm Robert
  19. Hi, It is always very interesting to experience some details outside the tables of the great bridge events. Would you describe how you and your team prepare themselfs for an imaginating Bermuda Bowl match, for example possible QF vs Norway..or smth like this.. Robert :D
  20. Unfortunately, the strongest polish pair Balicki-Zmudzinski cancelled their start in the national trials, Jacek Pszczola will not represent Poland in the Bermuda Bowl too. Without those players the chances to get into top 4 are rather small. But there are a very strong generation of polish juniors, maybe they will be able to achive the same successes during the next ten years...
