  1. should I ask for aces? played an indy with p without profile....my hand in second seat:[hv=s=s2hakq98732dakqc6]133|100|[/hv] Opps opened 2S in first seat, I decided to bid 5H like("bid 6 if you have an ace") I did not know which sort of blackwood my p usually bids, so I did not take 4NT. Was this 5H a reasonable bid or not? Robert
  2. Not only you. I meet with this every day , but I do not care about it in any way, because from my longtime personal own experience, it is better to practice a bit of understatement by rating myself. ( my rate: declarer play=adv, defence=interm., bidding=interm+) Robert
  3. some of them made a right decision and moved truly to BBO :)
  4. There were more differences between contest list and the real line up. for example, Gromov-Dubnin & Balicki-Zmudzinski don't participate in the event. Robert
  5. Cav's top5 or top4 in correct order? To meet flamingos at the North Pole is more likely than to guess it. ;) I hope somebody from BBF will cash these 1000 bucks>>>>GL for all! :) Robert
  6. I think every internet vug broadcast would still work better, but I like an idea to watch one day a coverage about "Cavendish People", there are enough charismatic persons around the bridge pro-scene, it would be interesting to hear their statements about "mechanisms" im world class bridge, about human aspects of the game, about winning, losing, about the passion. Just something in the style of the canadian tv coverage we watched a few weeks ago. Robert
  7. belgian pralines rule! :)
  8. It is possible since January 2000, but there are two strict conditions: -one or both parents have been living in Germany for more than 8 years -he/she has the legal permit of residence.
  9. Another question. Due to complexity of the bridge game, is there a real chance in the future to develope software which would be able to compete as a "team" vs world champs squad in a long match? Robert
  10. There is emotional side of watching vugraph too, I try to kibbitz C. Balicki & A. Zmudzinski so often I am able to do, crossing always the fingers for their success. :) I am always impatient for some "fireworks" they make, particulary in the declarer play and defense. Beside this, I like to follow my favorite commentators trough the VG rooms. Robert
  11. 18, I started to learn it while we waited in the mountains for a better weather conditions, my older friends nicknamed me immediately "Rob The Overbidder" Robert
  12. I think there is a one more important reason that they don't play together in Cavendish Pairs, Fred wrote in 2004 about it:
  13. I have met with this new (for me )kind of rudeness twice in the short period of time. In one case, the host of the table recognize after the lead that I would make a 3nt contract he doubled, and booted me immediately without one word. Later I saw in my hands this contract "went down". Robert
  14. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=shdc&w=shdc&e=s8hk8dakq8432ck103&s=shdc]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] West: Pass North: 1♥ East: ??? Is it reasonable to bid (East) 3 NT gambling, expecting a heart lead from South? Robert
  15. It must be a very hard work for professional players to make a real "miles & boards marathon" like a one C. Balicki & A. Zmudzinski did in only 7 weeks: Poland>>>Japan(NEC)>>Poland>>Moscov(Slava Cup)>>>Poland>>>Amsterdam(Whithe House)>>>Poland>>>China(YEH)>>>Poland>>>St Luis(6 hard days of Vandy).... all top tournaments in which the sponsors expect top play and results. Robert
  16. I voted for Lynch vs Henner-Welland, but looking at the line up's of this 1/16 round, every table promises the absolute world class bridge. To broadcast the closest match in 3rd & 4th quarter seems to be the best solution. Robert
  17. what about "All Along The Watchtower" by Bob Dylan.. "There must be some way out of squeeze" said the declarer to the dummy "There's too much confusion on this board I can't get no relief" "No reason to get excited", the dummy, he friendly spoke "There are many here among us who feel that bridge is but a joke" All along the screentower, the TD kept the view.. :D Robert
  18. These bulletins are the great lecture, all matches precise analysed hand by hand, and the final in VG theater was an appetizer for the related events like upcoming White House Inv. or Yeh Bros. Cup Robert
  19. 20 % cut until now-it works fine, but the first months are the easy part. Robert
  20. For the most Europeans is 3 minutes summary more than enough ;) On sunday we have WC final in handball Germany vs Poland, a real thing with the real action ;) Robert
  21. I have read in some threads here about possibility to get nuclear weapons from one of the ex-Sovjet republics. In the fact, there are no more such weapons, they were removed from the teritory of Ukraina, Belarus and Kazahstan etc. in the early 90's and are located now in Russia, under full control of russian goverment. Robert
  22. M. Lanzarotti is listed as a member of team Ventin for The White House International Bridge Teams ( February, 2007) http://www.hetwittehuisbridge.nl/WhiteHous...2007/index.html Robert
  23. Go, buddy,go buddy, go,go,go It's doable, my last cigarette was December 31st 1996. Now, if only I could overcome my Alcohol problem Geoff Thanks for your support, Geoff :) In the past several approaches to stop smoking (suddenly) failed, so I am trying it now with a long term strategy, my goal is to reduce consumption 10% every month. Robert
  24. I am going to reduce smoking step by step, oh dear it will be a hard fight! My opponent (devil in me) has a huge carry over in this match! Robert
