  2. Hi, I am curious as to who visits this particular part of the Forum, one of the reasons I am curious, is that I don't see much activity from my level answering questions (perhaps a misplaced perception), but I think these forums are great learning tool and I personally think more beginners and intermediates should be encouraged to visit it. I do tend to use it myself to try get some answers and there are a lot of very helpful people here that discuss things and take the time to help others. Which is appreciated. I would like to do another poll about who reads this forum but never posts here and I would like to know why they dont.
  3. I have a lot to learn, 1 diamond opener I thought this is a rule of 20 opener?
  4. I have bth bridge master and audrey grants edition I have completed both (it only took me 7 months and the explanations are excellent) all levels. I started to do bridge master again and it may still take me another 7 months at this rate and I still need to look at the solutions at times, but it is a very smart piece if software and very helpful for someone learning , I would recommend this to all it is also a lot of FUN
  5. Hi, I wonder if you can help me here. The following hand I played today, my first instinct was to play A K first, then I tought I may as well look for a better line. This is where my problem lies, I could not work out at the table how to play the spade suit for 6 tricks so can you help with the following questions and anything else of intrest that you see here. here is the hand (please note, my 2!S opening is prob not good in 2nd seat) but it is the play of the spade suit I am interested in [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sq985hq97dt854ck8&w=skjthak6dak6cat62&e=sa76432hj852d2cj3&s=sht43dqj973cq9754]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - Pass 2♠ Pass 2NT Pass 3♣ Pass 4♠ Pass Pass Pass I was playing from dummy at the time. I decided to play K first. Question 1/. which hand should I be playing this from 2/. were there any clues as to what to expect 3/. what is best line of safety play I dont think you can make 6 with 4 cards as they stand (unless I was the defender) , but I would like to know best way to tackle this problem if the lay out was different
  6. I have just been given William Root, Play of the hand, I am only on chapter one but it seems like a sound book to me
  7. Hi, what do you do if you cant signal as agreed because your spare cards are a bit ambiguous? and then how can you tell if your partner has signalled using a card that is ambiguous?
  8. when bidding competively, I run into all sorts of problems 1/. Remembering what we agreed. (i.e. forgeting a tool, amongst the basic just forgeting the convention) 2/. evaluating my hand the second time around (both, over and underestimating). 3/. Pushy opps. 4/. LOTT (does not always seem to work). 5/. Partners that refuse to discuss system. What problems do other beginners, intermediates have and what do you think is the worst issue and the one we should try to cure first? I would like to hear from both beginners and experts on this as we may see things differently
  9. Beginner, expert, world class, intermediate or advanced, I play badly with them all. Hope this is an constructive opinion Marc
  10. the bidding goes, 1nt : 2c : 2H : 3c, opps are not bidding, what is 3c exactly?
  11. 1/. I would play 2 to the 10 to see how the cards split 2/. Ace the 5 to the Q 3/. Dunno 4/. 6 to the king
  12. thx for that, nice explanation ben, and you are right flame I should concentrate more
  13. I would take with A clubs pull trumps play out the clubs, play A hearts and give away the Q hearts (unless I was lucky and opps had singletoon heart) then opps give me lead back in diamons or I get a ruff and sluff
  14. [hv=d=e&v=e&n=saq43h965dj543ca8&w=st62hqt8743dt9c96&e=sj987hkda76ckj532&s=sk5haj2dkq82cqt74]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - - 1♣ 1NT Pass 3NT Pass Pass Pass Hi all, I played this hand (21/9/4, in #44 booard to the end of night 9pm)and made the contract, I have a question about my play from the time I layed the Q clubs down and missed the squeeze 1/. was q clubs the right card and should i have known that I was in a squeeze situation. I would appreciate if you can look the hand up in myhands in this tourney it was hand number 6 in the #44 9 board to the end of the night jtfanclubs tourney
  15. I play reverse bergen 3 club = 10 - 12 and 4 card support 3 diamond = 7 - 9 and 4 card support we also play jacoby 2nt and reverse drury for 3rd 4th seat openers the advantage (and I am sure I will be corrected) is that if you play reverse bergen 3 the club now gives p more room to cue bid (3D and 3H are available) as opposed to bidding 3 diamond, which only gives you 3 H to cue bid anyway I have played it now for 3 months and I get better results than I used to so I like it. I am only intermediate standard, so experts my disagree
  16. HI, I am interested in running a marathon Tournament 60 hands (this is negotable) What I propose is that 4 people (two teams act as realys with each other) perhaps playing 10 or 20 or 30 hands then taking a break and the other pair taking over. This would involve the directors subbing the second team in place of the first team. the subbing could be staggered to allow the directors plenty of time to cope for this reason may be I could set the maximum amount of teams to 10 or 12 (this could be increased if it was successful or if take up is good) The reason I sugest this is so that no one falls asleep or we have major issues with subs. I am open to suggestions about the format and everything I would need some other directors to help run it and may be we could get a top class director to help with decisions that are required throughout the tourney. Anyway it is just an idea if you are interested then please contact me at wayne.mayer@btinternet.com and also your coments would be appreciated here for others to see including rules you would like to play with. i.e. just one system or what ever else takes your fancy. I am no expert on the rules of the game One last point, if you decide to go with it, then please have the decency to play it out, Please dont ask to play if you leave when you are on a bad streak as that is no fun for anyone Bad connections due to the length of tourney, can be eliminated as a reboot only takes a few minutes in reality, if you are frozen opps and p should be prepared to wait a few minutes
  17. What does obvious shift mean. in laymans terms please
  18. sigh so much for my cyber skills, I cant even cut and paste properly hehe
  19. Fluffy, we play italian cue bids, so if me and p were reversed I would bid 4 diamonds after 4 clubs. Why would you bid 4 spades (is that because you Q bid aces only?) or is there another reason?
  20. Personally, I would not like to see private chat logged, *edited the rest, Rain* I would hate to see that start in here, I realise that you have an excellent censorship policy here and it seems to work. DO NOT log private chat, if you dont want to talk to someone because they are rude to you, black list them and click ignore enemies, that works perfectly. As for resolving abuse issues, then they do it once and then they are on ignore. problem solved. if to many people report them then may be just log that individuals private chat and inform them that you are doing so
  21. Is playing 1nt 15-17 with a 5 card major suit, a better style for 2/1system or SAYC system. Just want to hear some opinions on this please
  22. with that I hand opening weak nt you have 20 points and p has 12 min, so I bid 2 clubs stayman after the 2 diamond bid, I have no idea if this is correct, but I think 6nt is the only bid as 4nt may be passed out by your p and you have a min of 32 between you. Thats about as scientific as I can be on that
  23. actually I know I have K clubs my p could think I have a singleton
