  1. 2 heart pass pass 2nt shows 18 - 20 points, so wit h good hand you would use this forcing (I think) bid, all your systems are on. 3nt must show a long suit, with a heart stop, which means he should have a spade stop also, other wise a spade lead could set him if cards are not right
  2. I think if you pass 2hearts x, they are achieving what weak two openers are all about. I would bid 3nt and smile if I went down
  3. Hi, I wonder if you can put my mind at rest here please, belive it or not I am reading a lot about negative x, but one thing I can see stated anywhere (could be the wood for the trees syndrome) . Are negative x's only used once in a hand i.e Pard opens 1 club, opps overcall 1 spade, I bid negative x (with 4 hearts and shoratge in opps suit) any further x by myself would not be negative x ?

(in fact general comments on my bidding in general here would be welcomed) The result indicates it was a good decision, but I think that was a mistake when opps played the K clubs to be honest rather than my good def
  5. Hi, I just loaded 3.8.8 and when I go into the main lounge where as I used to see padlocks I now see plain yellow boxes, I do not believe any alterations have been made to my system, so I am unsure if that is a problem or a change. or a problem with my computer only, seems strange as all I have done is upgrade to new version
  6. Hi Jilly, I raise pard with 3 cards in majors at any opportunity, the only thing I will say is 99% they will be 3 very good ones, I may even on occasions support with AK only further on in the auction I am no expert here, but I have had some good results and I am not sure I can remember the last real bad board I had doing that (or at least attributable to that on its owm, I usually screw up something else as well )
  7. I disagree with the view win an event. I won RM Oysters event two days running with a pick up p (admitedly the pick up p) seemed very good. he was certainly a decent person. I have won quite a few tournaments (I have also came last in an equivelent amount I would guess) I dont play live bridge (I have learnt on the net and I know thee are at least a few others that play bridge on the net and not in real life. So that in itself is a barrier to graduating from a BILie (which I belive a lot wish to do) and I suspect for our own satisfaction not anyother reason. Steves point how do you know is interesting. My opinion is, consistancy, is the answer to graduating, nothing more nothing less, just having enough tools in place and the confidence to use them against "come what may" and the experience of sitting down with other advanced or better and being invited back to play again, I think it is self realisation and honesty, you know when you are not being stretched and may be that is the time to move on
  8. I was putting my opinion in about jtfanclubs opening statment. To put it in simple terms DO NOT REPLACE ORIGINAL PARTNER it is a pain in the butt. I was not repsonding to your statement Rona, I only just started to read this thread and wanted to put my opinion in. But if you play in my tourney and your pard gets disconnected, I would expect someone of your experience to get their own sub, if you turned round and said I wish to leave I do not want to play with a sub, I would prob put you on my black list and keep you out of my tournaments (but that is a personal opinion) prob not one shared by many, I only run the odd tourney for fun and if you have to play with subs occasionally so be it. it is a cross we all have to bear playing on-line.
  9. I dont actually believe the soft ware is geared towards doing this, to do what you suggest you need the subs consent to be allowed to go from one table to another (unsure anyone would do this). That means you would need a team of about 3-4 subs that are prepared to sit there waiting to fill in on a short term basis (this would become very tedious for them) for what my opinion is worth, this really is making more work for the director, do it at your peril, because once you start doing it everyone will expect it. it will cause you nothing but grief. Just say NO explain it in the tourney rules and tell em if they want tourneys run like that , then run their own. You will be opening a big can of worms (hope you understand that expression) it is not worth the bother
  10. thinking about it, I think 3nt is worse because 1/. opener would prob have Kx or Kxx spades so once ur make ur K hearts he gets to play the hearts suit and may be enough to set you 2/. OR he may not have the spades he may have AKQxx clubs which is feasable I always go down because I over estimate my hand when p over calls NT, so I reckon err on caution, if you are in imp match, I reckon some bid 3nt and go down some dont so you end with an average score (I hope) so pass and be safe
  11. I think I would pass, if I bid 3nt they could make 5 or more straight off if the clubs and hearts sit wrong ( the heart K is prob worthless I think if tempted to bid, 3 spades is enough, Pass is best option I think (but at the table with my idiot head on, which is getting less and less these days) I would bid 4 spades and think what the heck
  12. Playing the Ace of spades is bad play on my part, I realise that as I know what RHO has left and that it should fail, but I am curious why it does not.
  13. Hi Fred, I dont know if you will read this but I am going through BM200 skill level 1 series A Deal 8 I have looked at the line to play in the movie answer, but I it does something I dont understand, just wondered if you can enlighten me as it has been bugging me for weeks on heart lead if you take it in dummy with the Ace and then play small spade to K right hand shows up 4 / 0 break and uses the 6 spades (he now has 7 10 J spades I then go back to dummy (with either another heart or club A) when you then play the ace the RHO leads J spades and allows you to make the contract on a finesse . because if the J spades does not get used the contract cant make and I doubt a real player would discard the J spades at that point. this is not the line recommended in the BM2000 movie, I was just trying to see how many other ways to make the contracts. Just curious why it does do that?
  14. Hi, I have read a few bits in the forum and have discussed pshyces with some friends and something called brown sticker conventions. I have a question, but first I will explain the way I am thinking.(I dont know whether I am correct) I thought bridge was a game with no secret meanings. I understand that a pshyce is a distortion of the truth about hcp and suit length or both, this distortion fools both opps and partner? I understand that brown sticker conventions are in place to screw up opps conventions. this distortion fools opps and NOT partner? What is the difference between the two and why do the ruling bodies allow pshyces. also I understand that to be a good player is to play consistantly well, so throwing the odd pshyce in seems to be as unhepful as making a game try when you really should just pass and accept part score also why is e.g 2 club bid (an artificial bid) not allowed as a pshyce and a 1 spade opener is? just curious about all this, I dont really have an opinion on it as I dont fully understand about them, I just wanted something in laymans terms to think about
  15. Guilty as charged your honour I do that a lot
  16. Just curious I thought to take Ace club first then give away a diamond trick, why would they automatically switch to a spade from that?

I opened 1 club, IF my pard had bid 1nt what should I bid next? 2/. if I bid a major does it show a reverse 100% my pard ACtually bid 1 spade what are your opinions on the following bid? 1a/. should I bid 3 spades not 2 spades in response to pards 1 spade bid 2a/. should I bid 4 diamond splinter not 2 spades in response to pards 1 spade bid 3a/. should I bid 4 spades not 2 spades in response to pards 1 spade bid 3/. should I do something else? thanks
  22. no idea what it is called but either 3 hearts or 3 spades to show single of major bid 3 of other major 5/4 minor split
  23. the reason I missed the spades defies me, I had a blonde moment and thought p was looking for stop ;) this is what happens when you start using conventions and rarely get the opportunity to use them, but at least this time I realised it was lebensohl, so I am improving )
  24. I dont suppose you care to elaborate on dummy reversal please, I am not familiar with it?
