unmitigated disaster
sceptic replied to sceptic's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I will defend my 4 spade bid by saying, I expected my p to be short in clubs, I expected not much in the way of HCP in hearts, but I did expect HCP in diamonds and hopefully at least Qxx spades I thought my heart holding was excellent and would help me in the play amd the club singleton to be a bonus -

Expert or beginner opps

I think it is hard to go off topic here so any commebnts you have about this are welcomed -
Hi I am curious as to how the experts think and play against different levels of opponents and how the decide when they sit at a table with strangers how they evaluate them. my thought process is this (usually a mistake when I start thinking) I see comments and questions here and the experts put on it expert opps or average opps, so it got me thinking that you must play differently against experts than you do against average players I am also curious, is it harder to use your toys and fancy conventions against people you cant trust to bid accurately

1NT 16 -18 1NT 15 - 17 1NT 14 - 16 1NT 12 - 14 1NT 10 - 12 add any I missed I think sayc started as 16 - 18 and then some dropped it to 15 - 17 Acol is 12 -14 ( I think this is more a preemptive type bid, to take bidding space from opps) 10 - 12 (mini I think) In your opinion what is best for SAYC and what is best for 2/1 and what are your general comments if some one played one of these (it does not matter which) and they wanted to try something different, what advice would you give them i.e. benefits and concerns about each I hope you understand what I am asking :)

(opinions before you see how many I went down, please don't look at the hand in myhands before you comment LOL) what result do you think I was aiming for when I made this bid? what defence over NT would have got me to the best place for this hand? what is the best defence over NT in your opinion ? ( and why do you like it)
