  1. is 1 diamond pass 2 clubs a game force bid in 2/1? first person to answer correctly wins a prize (4 bottles of asti, winner collects prize)
  2. Brain wave of the day. Any chance you can program the view panels to select people by systems rather than countries or as well as countries I just think that it would be a benifit to me (hahaha) if I could chose people to ask to play if I knew there prefered system. I realise that they have a profile anyway and I can look, but this could be seen as an enhancement as opposed to a replacement
  3. I suggest that, when you are walking about in the Antartic, you should wear a jolly warm coat and avoid eating yellow snow
  4. [hv=d=w&v=n&n=st87542hkjdj54ca6&w=sk93haq84da63cqj5&e=sjh62dk972ck97432&s=saq6ht9753dqt8ct8]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South 1NT Dbl! 2♠ Pass 3♣ 3♠ 4♣ 4♠ Dbl Pass Pass Pass I am just testing this. please ignore
  5. the 4!h bid was FADS (I hope) I am learning lebensohl so 3!S denies stopper and first priority is to bid 4 of a major, the 5!C I assumed was a cue bid, so I bid my Diamond and passed out when I was left in it hahahaha. not my partners fault I may add, I am happy to take the blame for my many faults.
  6. Thx Ben, I have not fathomed out how to use lin convertor yet, which cascade sent me. I am a bit dumb sometimes and it will probably take me ages to work out how to use it. Unfortunately (and I do appreciate your comments) it was another 5 diamond hand that went wrong I was asking about, I will try and get it up so I can get some feed back. Thanks for your time and effort Ben.
  7. http://online.bridgebase.com/cgi-bin/history.pl?...00&p=2004-07-16 the hand is 5th from bottom, I am trying to work out how to post the hand on the generator
  8. http://bridgebase.lunarpages.com/~bridge2/...hp?tag=FULLHAND HOPE THIS GETS DONE CORRECTLY, FIRST TIME TRYING TO POST A HAND. this hand is from last night acbl touney I was in 5!d. can someone tell me where we went wrong
  9. When dummy tabled his hand I called the director, and discovered that the director was already at the table... sitting west I explained the case: West had hesitated for some time and partner doubled after having passed in 2nd hand. If you are in the middle of an auction and you minimize BBO, say to surf on the internet or whatever, if the opp't hit your bid asking for you to "Explain your bid", the pop up comes up asking to explain it, you cannot maximum BBO, thus having to do CTRL+ALT+DEL and close BBO, then open it again to get back to your game. I can not belive the same person wrote both these comments did you call the director and ask for a ruling against yourself?
  10. Does anyone want to swop my masterpoints for drugs, sex and alcohol please? HaHa you must be joking
  11. Why would anyone care!! They are just a bit of fun and the chances of them happening out side a goulash tourney are pretty small, I am sure some of you old mathematicians can work out exactly how much the odds are then the hard part would be finding someone that is interested in those odds, I doubt it would be a best seller if you did take the time to work out the odds on each deal and publish them hahaha
  12. BIL = beginners intermediate lounge Interesting concept letting advanced take over the lounge (perhaps they can take over the world next) hehehehehe, maybe you could start a intermediates advanced lounge , that would solve problem Then I can come to that also :) cos BIL is GREAT
  13. Hi maureen can you save the lecture for us as I wont be able to attend at those times but would love toi read what goes on :D)
  14. I help direct occasinally and some people call director and when you ask them what the issue is they don't say a word or answer the directors messages, so it is easy to understand why their pick up p's don't know who called the director as the director sometimes has no idea why they are called to the table either. As for anything else to do with bridge, I am incompetant to judge the rights and wrongs of any decision due to lack of knowledge, but as a helping TD I am perfectly qualified to find subs and replace people, which sometimes GOOD TD's need to allow them to manage the issues. I do not direct ACBL events and possibly I am 10 years away from being competant, BUT, some of us incompetant TD;s can help some people have a stable 10 - 12 hands of FUN bridge, only play in ACBL events if you want perfection and avoid FUN tourneys set up by people like myself who just fancy a few hands of stable bridge (as far as a tourney can be stable), it wont take you long to avoid idiots llike me running my tourneys, just stick to the expert TD's tourneys and I am sure that there are a lot about. And certainly, I can not understand how anyone, can expect anything other than mayhem and disorder, when you are about to have 10 - 12 hands with 10 - 12 different partners who could play loads of different systems and speak loads of different languages. a recipe for fun (unless you take the game seriously) then I dont understand why you play in an indy, they are just FUN after all. My advice is only play in the tournaments you know have top class directors. as gerben stated [/QUOTEMy humble opinion is that the correct action is to take all directing powers away from whoever decided this. Score stands. No alternative
  15. I thought if it is a game force bid, the weakest bid you can show is 4Spades, that to me seems appropriate here, shows no interest in anything else. and it is a 3 card support limit raise. Intersting I did not realise 2 spades reverse was game forcing (or is that dependant on agreements?), I thought it was only forcing 1 round as your 1nt could be zero points depending who teaches you 2/1 I suppose. Also I dont know enough conventions to know if there is one to show second suit support and the singleton or the A diamonds just in case pards reverse is super strong or super distributional
  16. I read quite a lot here and sometimes stuff does not make sense to me straight away, but I still read it as I think the only way to learn is try new things, it does sink in after a while :D, I would hate to see us beginners and intermediates answering our own questions all the time, I think we would all start going backwards if we did. discussion is great but the guidance all the experts post here for us s invaluable.. keep posting experts it is appreciated
  17. no thanks from the management???????????/ perhaps it should be the other way round.. Long live Uday Fred and Sherri. I speak as someone exluded from their elietist activities, not someone who has been given the opportunity to use a first class facility like BBO for free (about time I brought some software I think))
  18. Has this thread not already been started, some months ago?
  19. I assume you are not talking about yourself here draco :D)
  20. WOWWWWWWWWWW slow down. I would like to express a very strong opinion here. Those that are saying anything detrimental about the 5th Chair foundation, well I say to you, "You have no idea what you are talking about". ( I would also treat what you are saying with a bit of contempt) I applied probably about a year ago for a mentor, I have never had lessons before nor had I really understood what a complex game bridge is,BUT, about six months after I applied (the time scales may be a bit out, for those pedantic enough to check the facts as I am presenting them). I recieved an email from a gentleman (an expert with a desire to help others) that was willing to help me learn the game and improve. He was asked to do his mentoring sessions in the BIL loubge so that others could benefit, which is now a regular feature on a monday. My personal experience is extremely positive and I know from some of the others that my mentor helps also appreciate him for what he is. A decent person, who gives something back to the game he enjoys so much. I feel that this is probably a quality all the 5th chair mentors possess, those that have an critisism for the 5th chair foundation, should 1. Appreciate that there is not an exhaustive list of mentors 2. If you want to mentor someone, you should not be whingeing here, you can go to the BIL lounge in BBO and ask someone there, I am sure you will get lots of takers
  21. I have onlyy been playing 2/1 for 4 weeks so don't laugh at me. BUT I think 2 hearts is the correct call for responder. the hearts are a nice suit and you have already limited your hand, so your p wont raise he will just pass and do the right thing and I am sure if your p passes you will come out of it smelling of roses
  22. hi here is a good link for the basic Roman Key Card Blackwood hope this is helpful, I found the whole site good, I still do http://www.prairienet.org/bridge/rkc.htm
  23. Hi all, Can I have your opinions as to which 3 bridge books you would take to a desert island with you and why??? Can't wait for Slothy's reply, the rest of you can be serious hahahaha
  24. Most people know if they are good or bad at playing bridge, what we should rate is peoples egos
  25. I believe Saddam Hussain, is not fond of the Geneva convention
