Can you tell me the disadvantages and defences against lebensohl, I am learning this convention and I love it, but I want to realise the down side to it as well, all comments welcome (p.s. you can include comments about ruhbensohl as well as I know some of you play both )

I think if it helps your cash flow, go for it, I used yahoo for years and the only painful add was the one that you had to click to pass into the site, the rest you learn to ignore

on a serious note, I am one of those kibbers and the reaction I get is always posotive and nice, there are some realy nice stars in here and I dont think you need a poll, try it and see what reaction you get

You run a tourney that consists of say 12 (or whatever is agreed)prepared hands that can be repeated 4 times (just a figure out the air) over a course of a 24 hour period to catch people in different time zones. Then (this may be the hard bit) have the results from the tourneys merged together so you have result board showing your position over all in the 4 tourneys all done with the same hands. I realise that may be some people could play the hands more than once if they were that way inclined (I am sure no one would really do that) There may be a coalition of directors needed to do this to cover the different time zone, but thats another issue.

I was happy with 3nt at the time, but I made 13 tricks, so I perhaps thought there may be a sequence to get me to a slam and I had not taken the time to consider my options properly

If you were to give a big prize, perhaps running lots of tourneys say 1 a week and best average gets the prize, min number of tourneys you have to enter, say 10 x 20 boards, that way some of the less than affluent players can pay $10 a week as opposed to $100 in one hit. prize money can stay the same. just outgoings are more manageable, a problem that may happen is as people get bad results they are less likely to stump up the cash for the remainder of the tourneys, just a thought anyway :blink: award a prize for highest contact bid and made? award a prize for the most consistant pair i.e. lowest score off set against highest score variance -3imps +3imps = 6 imp variance or matchpoint equivilent As for preventing cheating, we all have phones so unlikely you ever stop it, if they want to cheat they will cheat

I think the trouble with having advanced players in the lesson is when (and I would think this could happen a lot) they have a different opinion from the teacher, they would try and hi jack the lesson (I have witnessed this once and it was pretty crappy for the teacher). I personally dont have an issue with the advanced players, looking in BIL lounges or its lessons, NOT my decision, it is Maureens and I for one will be happy with what ever she decides, this is probably the best run club I have ever been in. it is perhaps a slightly negative comment and not intended to offend anyone in particular (I do not personally care if it does, but it would be unintentional if it does) IF an advanced player needs to come to BIL to learn what we are very LUCKY to have, free lessons, good teachers and everything that goes with it, then perhaps they are not so advanced after all and if they change their profiles to intermediates (which I am convinced a lot of advanced are in BB) then they would not have an issue with not being allowed in.

Hi I am about to change my Internet Service Provider, this will mean that I get a new ISP number, will this effect my ability to log on as sceptic and harmonious (these are the two ID's I use) Also 2nd question, I have a few other ID's that for some reason I created and don't use, how do I delete these ID's from BB as I am sure extra defunct and unwanted ID's just clutter up your system. What is the best way to learn to count suits? i.e. add your own holdings and count remainder down (I have 6 hearts 7 outstanding each time one is played deduct it from the total) add your own holdings and add to your origanal figure when one card in that suit is played is it better to only count certain suits or better to improve and be able to count all 4 suits.(or is it ok to target certain suits and if so what factors do you take into account to decide which ones to count)

Hi all, it is I again I need to hear your opinions on 2nt openers please. i.e. hcp, distribution (20-21 or is 20-22 better) I have not put any examples in here but, I would like to see what is acceptable to open these hands AND what problems you may encounter at the two level opener with stayman, transfers, smollen and texas transfers responses (i.e. does it all just go up a level when bidding) or can you not use some of these conventions a prime example being p opens 2nt, I bid 3 heart transfer, p responds 3 spades, I then bid 4 clubs (showing second suit(I hope))does a bid of 5 clubs NOT 4 clubs show singleton in that suit ( the reason I ask this one is you have now lost signing of at 4 level or is their other conventions you use or different ways of using the same conventions at the two level. (please assume 15-17 hcp) i.e. distribution hcp does it matter whether it is in 1st 2nd 3rd 4th seat, what ranges after a minor opening in different seats, what ranges after a major opening, what ranges after a major opening (overcalls) there are probably areas I have not considered and as long as they are about 1nt openers I am happy to hear them. (I will cover 2nt openers in another thread as I am making a pigs ear of those also) can you also look at the following examples and gives views please. spades hearts diamonds clubs is order of suits (hope that right) 1/. xx AKXX AKQXX XX 2/. XXXX AJ KQJ KJXX 3/. AKXXX AXX QX QXX 4/. XXXX XX AKQ AKJXX 5/. AXX AXX AXXX AXX 6/. QJX QJ109 KJ AJ10X 7/. QXX AX KJ AKXXXX I have actually held some of these and opened some 1nt and one or two differently, also I am sad to say I have open similar hands both ways (so we will ignore my inconsistancies. comments on opening 1nt with 2 doubletons, long minors, and 5 card majors are of particular interest to me.

anyone wishing to kibitz me I can give a running commentry on what my p calls me after one of many mistakes, you may learn how not to play that way :)
