sceptic replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)

pick up p we had no agreements, I bashed 6 diamonds for lack of knowing what else to do with no agreements and I was not over enamoured with pards bidding prior to this (I am not critising him or her, as I am no expert myself)

ok, I considered pass, 3 hearts bid, what I had in mind was only a competitive raise, and my spades seemed excellent, so I was competing and also I would be reasonably happy to hear 3 spades is my logic flawed here

I am getting Paranoid
sceptic replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
why not indeed, do you not need 19 for that? -
I sat down at a table, did not know anyone and opened the bidding 1NT after the hand everyone left, am I paranoid or just plain ***** at this game, the previous hand, I sat at the table and my pard started gobbing off about a bid the previous occupant had made, main bridge club is becoming painful some days [hv=d=s&v=e&n=skqj6hq8763d975c5&w=s97432h94dkj63ct2&e=sa8hj2daq2ckqj743&s=st5hakt5dt84ca986]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - - - Pass Pass Pass 1NT Pass 2♥ Dbl 2♠ Pass Pass Pass HK H4 H6 HJ HA H9 H3 H2 DT DK D5 D2 S2 SK SA S5 S8 ST S3 S6 D8 D3 D7 DA C3 C8 CT C5 C2 H7 CJ CA D4 D6 D9 DQ CK C6 DJ H8 CQ C9 S7 SJ SQ C4 H5 S4 HQ C7 HT S9

I would over call 1 heart, in fact I do and I get lots of these from partners ????????????????????????/ LOL
-
I voted 1 and then 3 spades, you are preempting partner with a direct 4 bid, you have a better hand than that (IMHO) and given that both opps have passed to enable the contract to be bid 1S 1NT "your choice" I think it is right not to preempt

A young man called Peter invited his mother for dinner, during the course of the meal; his mother couldn't help but notice how handsome Peter's flatmate, Simon, was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between the two, and this only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Peter and his flatmate than met the eye. Reading his mum's thoughts, Peter volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Simon & I are just flatmates". About a week later, Simon came to Peter saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the frying pan, you don't suppose she took it do you? "Well, I doubt it, but I'll e-mail her just to be sure" said Peter. So he sat down and wrote DEAR MOTHER, I'M NOT SAYING THAT YOU "DID" TAKE THE FRYING PAN FROM MY HOUSE. I'M NOT SAYING THAT YOU "DID NOT" TAKE THE FRYING PAN BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT IT HAS BEEN MISSING EVER SINCE YOU WERE HERE FOR DINNER. LOVE PETER Several days later, Peter received an email from his mother which read DEAR SON, I'M NOT SAYING THAT YOU "DO" SLEEP WITH SIMON, AND I'M NOT SAYING THAT YOU "DO NOT" SLEEP WITH SIMON, BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT IF HE WAS SLEEPING IN HIS OWN BED, HE WOULD HAVE FOUND THE F**KING FRYING PAN BY NOW. LOVE MUM

I would open 1NT if the diamonds were clubs -
my pard said my bid is 3 diamonds not 2S

For once, I agree with The_Hog. :) The trouble with that Ron, is usually, I am the idiot LOL -
I totally disagree, it is your responsibility to politely leave the table and find a more enjoyable table I agree with the example you cite, but I do not think that is a good power to give people, so you have to take the rough with the smooth
