  1. I'm tempted to allow this one. Certainly I would bid 4S without the hesitation, so I'm not convinced pass is an LA, but I'll concede the votes of the poll
  2. LHO is a known operator. Sorry, should've mentioned this at the beginning.
  3. S9 HQJxx D AKxxx C 10XX You open a precision diamond as per your style. 1D (1S) P (2C) P 4NT P 5H P 6C X P P XX Float Do you lead a top diamond or a spade? Or something else too for that matter?
  4. As it was, partner has psyched, and bid 1S on a 2344 3 count or similar (I don't have the full hand records). The player holding this hand passed, and the auction ended after 2NT. How would you rule on the pass of 2NT? EBU land, so traffic lights in operation. Would it make a difference if you're called to the same pair 5 minutes later to record another psyche?
  5. I thought it obvious too, but we got into trouble on this hand. Partner held Axx J87X KTX Qxx And it went 1C X 3C X P 3S AP 2 off for not a good score
  6. 2nt was not alerted, but you didn't ask. If you do ask, it's natural, 10-12 with a heart stopper.
  7. OK, but on the layout of the cards 7D was almost impossible not to make. Either way you want to be in 6 at least.
  8. [hv=pc=n&s=sq6hkt6dq432ck963&w=sjt42haq98djt75c7&n=sak3hj5dak6cajt52&e=s9875h7432d98cq84]399|300[/hv] I played this in 4NT on the J of diamonds lead. Assume it was matchpoints and you get the clubs right, West gets horribly squeezed in first 3 suits then two suits, but without the count. Any ideas what this is called?
  9. [hv=pc=n&s=sqj63hk93da6532c6&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1cd]133|200[/hv] Do we agree with the take out double here?
  10. [hv=pc=n&e=saqt7hkj63da62cq3&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1hd1s2n]133|200[/hv] What do you call here? (Supplementary post coming).
  11. It might work. It's a bit (read: a lot) anti-partnership though.
  12. [hv=pc=n&s=s6haqt8753dqj6cq6&n=sa72hdak973cak872&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1hp2dp2hp3cp3hp3nppp]266|200[/hv] This was our team-mates auction, which lost a bucket load at the EBU autumn congress. My partner and I were not impressed by this result. Who was most to blame?
  13. I presume that you already have some sort of run-out here as responder. In which case I nearly agree with Paul, except I redouble with the 6 card minor as well.
  14. What's 1D 1S 1NT in our methods?
  15. In England, those declarers play 1nt 2S as showing 11 points and 1nt 2nt as 12 points...
  16. West held QJ9x of clubs and led one. You can throw him in later with a club to lead one into your A10, but by that point you've already lost 4 tricks - 2 spades, a heart and the club you throw him in with.
  17. [hv=pc=n&s=sq98hkq974d6cat83&n=s63hj852dak2ck762&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1hp3d(Bergen%20limit)]266|200[/hv] Bid game or sign-off in 3H?
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=sak987haq963dck75&n=sj432hj5dakq83c64&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1sp3d(Bergen%20limit)p]266|200[/hv] You may not agree with the 3D limit raise, but I'm going to force it on you regardless, because that's what my partner did at the table. How do you proceed? 3H will be taken initially as a general game try (although if you try again later partner will take it as a cue). 3S is NF, 3NT would be Mathe, asking for a shortage. Other bids are undiscussed.
  19. My suggestion is not to play Acol, for this very reason.
  20. I also bid 3D. If partner cannot move beyond this, we should have no game. Partner has denied a weak NT, and opposite some of the rubbish I open on these days, 5 of a minor looks a long way off.
  21. Apologies if this is rubbish, but if we assume declarer has forgotten about the J of diamonds, don't we rule 3 more tricks to the defence? After all, surely declarer could play A of diamonds, 9 of diamonds (losing to the jack) then the defence has 3 tricks to cash?
