  1. I bid 2H when I held this hand. I'll comment later whether it was right or not.
  2. Bidding on here is hanging partner.
  3. I play after 1M 2C 2D = 6+M 2H = 3OM 2S = 2OM 2NT = 4OM 3C = 1OM 3D = 5OM
  4. My textbook didn't tell me what to bid with 6-6 hands so I decided that opening 1D then rebid 6C would communicate an ability to make 12 tricks in the preferred minor. Maybe a touch agricultural, but yet to see anything better.
  5. Apologies if this is in the wrong forum I've noticed a lot of pick up partners bidding 2D with about a 10 count and a 5 card diamond suit in response to 1C, as though a 1D response doesn't exist naturally. Any ideas why, or is this just a cross I have to bear when I play with a pick-up
  6. Partner didn't have much, but he held a 5th diamond which was good for a 12th trick. They just overcalled 6S in the other room :(
  7. North, for not opening the automatic weak 2 in spades.
  8. I splinter. If I bid 1S and partner bids 2 of a minor, I'm stuck between an inelegant 4th suit forcing auction or an agricultural leap to 4H. How partner is meant to know how to continue after that I don't know.
  9. These days the NGS ratings are significant. The team playing in division 1 was promoted based on NGS ratings. It therefore strikes me as unfair to rate the midnight speedballs, where everyone is drunk and psyches on every board.
  10. 2H. 3H would show a better hand. I'll bid 3H next round if allowed.
  11. [hv=pc=n&s=s9hdaqjt92cakq972&n=skq6hq632dk643c63&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1d2dd2s6cdppp]266|200[/hv] Partner forgot to correct to 6D. Lose 17 :(
  12. [hv=pc=n&n=sakqjt4hjdakqjcaj&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1hdp1s3h]133|200[/hv] Any suggestions?
  13. Hang on, this looked like an assign the blame for 6C X making. I blame... North I presume for jumping up with his ace of clubs and playing a diamond.
  14. I prefer to open 1C than 1D. The reason being is I want partner to be able to bid something at the 1 level on any excuse. With a 4-5 count and clubs he may pass 1D.
  15. I passed this one without even thinking about it.
  16. As a former Dubliner I suggest going to Cornucopia. It's an epic restaurant.
  17. I'm going to bid 2H regardless. If partner gets excited he should not be disappointed with this dummy.
  18. Yeah, this should show a hand that expects to make it.
  19. On the subject of escapes from 1NT X, I really must advocate that pass should be to play. With a not very exciting 5 or 6 count, being forced to run is a poor idea, but having to decide between that or raising the blue flag, is not a decision I want to take. I play that XX = a 5 card suit somewhere 2C = clubs and a higher suit 2D = diamonds and a higher suit 2H = majors 2S = spades and this has worked well for me.
  20. On a matter of semantics, the precision 1D has an potential minor suit canape, which to my understanding makes it alertable under the new EBU laws rather than announceable. (I know the OP mentioned ACBL). Is this correct?
  21. Actually I was South. Opps called the director at the end of the hand. I alerted 2NT, but no-one asked. When I put dummy down I said "something strange has happened"
  22. Table result was +150, if it matters.
  23. South tells you that East is marked with a very strong hand, and that by bidding anything (5C/D etc) they would allow them in to bid hearts, and they expect 5H to make. Given this, South prefers to go off in 50s. Any other questions to form part of your investigation?
  24. [hv=pc=n&s=sqj3h6dkt96ct9842&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=pp2n(Pre-empt%20in%20either%20minor)ppp]133|200[/hv] Please see the description of the 2NT bid as per agreements. North had forgotten and had a flat 21 count. The EBU uses the traffic light system. How do you rule?
  25. X AX AKQJTXX JTX Partner deals and opens 1C. Auction proceeds 1C (2S) 3D (3S) 3NT P ? Had enough, try for slam, or bid slam?
