  1. 4S. Double will end the auction. 4S can be horrible but it would be pessimistic not to try it. Qx of spades may be enough.
  2. No, it isn't. If North wanted to force he should bid 3D. I'm not saying that North should bid 3D on this particular hand though.

Totally agree with sfi. I had the same thought - if the EBU tried making me play simple Acol, I would have to tell them that I don't know how.
  4. [hv=pc=n&s=sa654hk94dqj4ckqt&w=skqjhj762dat6c874&n=st9htdk987532ca96&e=s8732haq853dcj532&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=1n(12-14%20%5B%21%5D)p2d(Transfer%20to%20%21H)p2hp3d(Not%20a%20transfer%2C%20just%20%21D)ppp]399|300[/hv] When 3D gets passed out, the 3D bid is explained as not a transfer, just hearts. The 2D bid was announced as per EBU regulations. East calls the director and claims he would have doubled 2D for take-out had he been told it was diamonds rather than hearts. How do you rule?
  5. I don't like redouble, so I shall face the dummy after the opening lead. If this goes a million off I shall blame p. I will double 5H.
  6. After partner super- accepts, I will try 4D. Hopefully this is a control rather than a suit (it should be)
  7. Mbodell has, according to this test, proven himself as a psychopath... by getting the right answer. Apparently most people aren't capable of thinking along those lines.
  8. My partner passed 4S (East made a negative double rather than bidding 2S), but she had only been playing face to face bridge for a few months and was very intimidated. I did tell her that she shouldn't have passed 4S here, and I passed 4S in tempo.
  9. A girl goes to her mother's funeral and meets the man of her dreams, and falls in love, but doesn't get his phone number or anything. Two weeks later she kills her sister. Why?
  10. If the WBF start charging to broadcast vugraph coverage, presumably BBO and others will have to start charging for the coverage? That being the case, the number of viewers will decrease substantially, which will only hurt the game of bridge.
  11. Thanks to Mungo (sectorzz9) for filling that one in. The Avon league division 1 was short a team (I believe due to a team withdrawing or something similar), so they used the average NGS ratings of the other teams to decide the best replacement.
  12. One of the players at this table asked me what I would've done in the same position. I said I considered 5H completely and utterly beyond automatic. In fact, if partner doubled at the top of his voice after standing on the table, I would still bid 5H. From what I recall (without intending any offence to the director involved) I think the director got this one wrong.
  13. This looks like a Mollo hand. 6S makes by South since West has no trump to lead. HH was South no doubt and Papa was West. Karapet East (who doubled) and RR North
  14. I think 5NT is makeable. You duck a club and a diamond then West is triple squeezed when 3 rounds of spades are cashed.
  15. Thanks all. Partner had a 2227 count with AKJxxxx of clubs and out. 5D and 5H are both off. Just wondering if I was insane for bidding 5H here.
  16. Partner could've bid 2H at his second turn, which would be the equivalent of 2C 2D 2H in standard methods, and he didn't do that, so partner could have up to a 21 count in theory.
  17. [hv=pc=n&s=sj52hqjt2d973cqj3&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=pp1dd1s]133|200[/hv] Do you call 2H here?
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=sa852h9dq98653c86&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1c(Strong)p1d(Negative)p1h(%21H%20or%20big%20bal)p1s(Relay)p2hp3dp4dp]133|200[/hv] What do you call here?
  19. My BWS card says that after a transfer to a minor, a new suit shows shortage. This is a little frustrating. I will start with a transfer to diamonds and then. a) If partner shows a good hand for diamonds (and therefore must have the Q) I will bid 4S Exclusion. b) If partner shows a bad hand for diamonds, I will bid 4C. Hopefully this is natural. What happens after that depends on what partner does. But if he bids 4S, I will settle for 6C. It is not my style to bid 7 after supposedly showing a heart void on these cards.
  20. It wouldn't be legal in EBU land (by agreement) to open this 1C. Extended rule of 25 applies. Partner would bid 3S showing clubs and 6+ HCP if you did.
