Partner held a 4234 18 count, which made 9 tricks, but 11 were available in spades (matchpoint scoring). I didn't like her 3NT bid. 2NT would've been plenty, after which I would bid a forcing 3S and we'd get to 4S.
You weren't going to get to defend against 2C X. You might get to defend against 2H doubled, which goes 1 off, and partner will double loudly. Partner held [hv=pc=n&n=sat863hkj94dkt93c]133|100[/hv] and unfortunately bid 4S over 2S liking her club void. This unpleasant contract went 1 off.
Sorry, missed the precision part of it. Yes, I pass this. This is the point of opening light, so that partner won't get carried away. Inviting game is getting carried away.
What country are you playing in? I don't believe that 1NT is alertable in either EBU or ACBL land playing behind screens. That being the case, I agree with the director's ruling (as in outcome, not methodology).
[hv=pc=n&s=skq93hk8753dt5c42&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=1cdp2hp3np]133|200[/hv] I assume you agree with the 2H bid (if not, please state what you would do otherwise). What do you do now?
These struck me as automatic to answer. 1) 1H 2) 2S 3) Pass 1 & 3 doing anything other than my answers above strikes me as mildly insane. 2 I think is a minimum for a vulnerable pre-empt, but it would still take a lot to stop me pre-empting on those cards.
I think South. I know that people open lighter than ever these days, but I'm going to game on the South cards. My preferred sequence: 1H (1S) 2D 2H 2S 3D 3H 4H
I bid 3C. Partner bid 3nt with KJxx Kxxxx Qx Qx and went 4 off on normal but unhelpful breaks. He blamed me for bidding here with a misfit. By the way, a 1nt response (to the double) would be 14-16
The Beginner/Intermediate Lounge will pair you up with someone if you're a member of them - I have a list of 5 students on my books at the moment, some of whom are very keen and improving at a great rate.
[hv=pc=n&s=s97hdk9653cat9873&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1h1sd(Agree%3F)p2h2s]133|200[/hv] What do you call here? If it helps, partner's hand is limited to 15 HCP. 2NT here would be natural, for better or for worse.
Isn't a procedural penalty a penalty for not following correct procedure? Strikes me that they should be handed out a lot more than they currently are (and therefore not be considered such a slur when they are given).
