  1. Actually, I called the director on my partner because he called me a donkey for ducking smoothly with Kx. Unfortunately declarer held a singleton club and made the whole job lot for a terrible score. I was just wondering more how obvious it was to win and cash out, or if ducking smoothly was reasonable.
  2. 8653 AK64 J65 K9 Against the auction 1H 2C 2D 2S 3NT all pass, partner leads the 2 of spades and dummy hits with QT J3 T9 AQJ8532 Declarer plays the 10 and overtakes with the ace. He then plays the 6 of clubs, partner playing the ten. You play standard count signals. Declarer plays the Q and you...? Matchpoints, strong field.
  3. I think 2C then 4H should show something like KQ AKQJxxxx K Kx Partner should then have a good idea of how to proceed.
  4. [hv=pc=n&s=sak9hq63dk5ct8753&n=s432hk72daj873caj&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1dp2nppdrppp]266|200[/hv] RHO is a known idiot (hence the redouble). If you ask what the double means you are told no agreement. LHO leads the J of spades. You duck (agree?) and LHO continues with the 10 of spades. How do you play?
  5. Playing standard methods, it depends a lot on the relative strengths of the 2 suits. AKQx K5432 I would happily open 1D and rebid 2C. Also agree with a lot of what Steve says.

  7. If I bid 3D and partner bids 3NT, surely 4D is slammish now?
  8. Shame I couldn't +1 this post. Happy Newtonmass
  9. If partner opens 3S, I bid 4S. And put down the dummy, saying glp.
  10. I have an ex-girlfriend who felt sorry for me because I was going to go to hell. That might've had something to do with the fact that she is an ex-girlfriend. Worst thing about it was that she played bridge as well.
  11. 3NT. By the way, you don't have a 2C opener IMO.
  12. [hv=pc=n&s=skqj63h6daq8ct952&n=sa72hj732dk4cakq3&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1sp2cp3cp3sp4d(Non-serious)p4sppp]266|200[/hv] Who should act differently to bid this slam?
  13. I pass. Partner almost certainly has club length (no club raise by East), my diamonds are all under the person showing length in the minors, I have no aces and only 5 spades. By the way, I don't believe that actual hand was dealt :-p
  14. Gordon beat me to it. I agree that I don't change the score if the auction has ended here. Why didn't EW ask about the meaning of 2H?
  15. You deserved a procedural penalty for passing. I would bid 3S, showing a good hand and good suit, if we play something Ogust like. This might go for the big 2000.
  16. Well, the auction proceeded: 1C 1S X 4S P P X All pass. This sadly went 1 down for -200 and a bottom Partner held: QJxxx Ax Jxxx xx P felt that it was important to overcall 1S over 1C to kill their space.
  17. Hi all As an unpassed hand, we play 2C as a game forcing relay and 2D and 2H as natural 4-9, NF. As a passed hand, we have decided to replace 2C with the Drury convention, which seems to fit in nicely. What I'm looking for are continuations after P 1M 2C. What we're currently doing: 2D = Lawrence Drury, enquiry as to nature of 2C 2H = min, 3 card support (or 4333 with 4 card support) 2S = max, 3 card support 2NT = 4 card support, not 4333. 2H = natural, forcing for 1 round 2S = rubbish, pass on pain of death. 4S = to play Other bids are as yet undefined. Any suggestions?
  18. I'm not really sure how a rise in atheism can be blamed for things like this. Do not murder tends to be against most atheists' moral code as well...
  19. [hv=pc=n&s=sat952hkq6d6ct742&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=p1c1sd]133|200[/hv] Deciding that you have too much outside your 2 suits to open a Muiderberg 2S at this vulnerability, the bidding proceeds as shown. What would you call here? You have no agreements as to what 2NT or 3C would mean. 4D is a splinter here.
  20. I don't understand partner's bidding. Let's assume that double shows a good hand. Partner pulls and bids 3S, which I'll assume is asking for a spade stopper in a semi-balanced hand. I bid 3NT showing a spade stopper. Partner now bids 4D, showing that 3S was a spade control rather than asking for a stopper, and suggesting a diamond slam. I now make the weakest bid I can make, refusing to cue bid either the ace of hearts or the ace of spades. Therefore saying I don't have those cards. 6D is off this planet. If partner assumed that double was a good hand, then I suggest this sequence: 1D P 2C (2S) X 3C - still forcing, no need to jump 3NT 4C - suggestion of a slam try 4NT - Not interested. Which should now end the auction.
  21. Just practicing strong club relays again. 1C (strong) 1H (4+ spades, GF) 1S (relay) 2C (43xx) 2D (relay) 2H (4333) 2S (relay) 3D (4 controls) 3H (relay) 4H (1 control in spades, clubs, diamonds, no spade queen) 6S
  22. Interesting. I bid 3S for better or worse. Partner held 3 low, 2 low, 2 low, K10 to 6. Sadly he didn't realise he had a lot, and passed 3S. RHO did have a 5422 16 count with Kx of spades in the slot. LHO had a 3442 1 count.
  23. Hi Derek Welcome to the forums. We'll cover a bit more on NT bidding during our next session. Mark
  24. I think you made the right bid by passing. As a good general rule when you start out, you shouldn't open a weak 2 with a 4 card major on the side, let alone a 5 card major.
