Transfers over overcalls
csdenmark replied to MesSer's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hi Dan Look into Meckwell - here you will find! Not exactly over 1D - because that refers to note 25, nearly impossible to understand - but else OK -
Due to above initiative - this site will shut down

Please, a button in BBO to this forum
csdenmark replied to Erkson's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Please remember this Forum is aimed for all but only used for regular discussions between 15-20 persons. Many have very hard problems communicating in english and most of the discussions are obsolete to most people. As an example. For long time there has been a lot of contributions about Moscito. A really private discussion because it is so few interested that such scares many away. You see new persons to post very quick loose interest and stop to post. - As soon a post is out of top 10 - it is no longer read. A button to this Forum will not change much in that! -

Recruiting Drive for The Team from DownUnder
csdenmark replied to hallway's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Time is fixed on Saturday, September 6, 2003, at 8:45:00 PM Wellington time -
Don't worry Maureen - You are doing great! Our tournament is NOT about who will be able to handle software best! Our team-members are no IT-geniusses either - and no problem with that. You are completely underestimating yourself Maureen. From handling of the administrative software - you are really the only one who can handle - and have done so - perfect and correct! You are a frontrunner Maureen - I would like to see our members to take your example! In your 1st match you will meet either Precision Team "The Wei Ones" - then Jacek will be able to set up the match or ACOL Alligators 1 and then Allan will be able to set up the match. The problems are of a quite different kind - and they are ours and ours only. Our team is now beginning to realize the tough competition they have to challenge - it is not a walk over. Less than 6 gains out of 8 matches - and tournament victory for any of the non-handicap teams is no longer an option.

Growth in Ladder Membership Plan
csdenmark replied to Laird's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi Ben Everything you see are proposals - set up a team and then we start and correct to what we think will be right according to what our experiences telling us. We can discuss for years about details - doing nothing else - and who wants that? The scoring is my proposal to avoid a team sets something up for competition and then call in a number of other experts to play and then they win. Therefore they can get no more than a start score 2. Penalty score for not playing the match is 0. To avoid plus and minus scores, simply a matter of administration tasks. Captains Board is the body to set the rules - and not me. What I have stated is something to get started - similar to run a soccer-league or such. To play league means to play many matches - one a week plus other kind of tournaments. Therefore some deadlines needed. But of course if captains agree on other schedules - then no problems with that. They just push a load in front of them. That rule 14 days is for a team to stand on if other team is reluctant or try to say holiday or so. Then they have a team with too small number of members for all the tournaments they want to compete in I think. But still no problem Ben - register please and you will be very welcome to come up with some other rules to get started with. I think one set of initial rules might be as good as another set - I dont really care about anything else but to get some experience - and soon we all will be wiser. I think the only thing what is sure right now is that initial rules will need to be modified after first tournament - maybe even before. -
The set-ups by ZONE and by BBO are rather different. Some likes the mother: http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/48/94/12m.jpg and some likes the daughter best. http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/78/94/12m.jpg

Very - very nice Todd - thank you! Promising - I really hope this tool will live up to expectations - then it will be the answer to our prayers! I haven't tested yet - only downloaded. Sorry you forgot the address Todd. It is very worth to remember - other interesting stuff there too it looks like. http://www.freewarehits.de/RemoteKeys.htm 1 hour later: I have now made an initial test - an excellent script editor - with no programming I already have got it to work and to open chat box from a panel inserting text. Simple and easy - for all to use - good luck

I have been asked not to cancel the initiave and not to destroy the WEB-site set-up for handling of team-tournaments. Very well - maybe it is only people are lost of what to do! But still it is so of course - interested persons must register in order to achieve anything. No registrations will destroy the initiative. I now try to write better information on how to start. Signing up for membership of the community and after that register a player will mostly be basic. This link will lead you directly to this: http://groups.msn.com/Tournament/help.msnw

Hi John - I will try to answer your questions - hope all, else come back please! No of course not. The opposite is the case -it is supporting what BBO is doing. Several times Fred have asked for ressources outside his own staff - they are short of capacity. Last I saw such a statement was regarding convention cards. He asked for some to produce default cards. I offered mine - but sad to say - nobody seems interested to play acc. to cc - they prefer to deal with the constant basic problems alerting all bids and all that confusion Several hundreds have looked into the site. I assume they are basically interested in such kind of tournaments. They are informed nothing happens unless they sign up for membership and post some information(player/pair search - team-search or team registration) they do nothing. I am tired of that. Therefore I have decided to redraw my offer unless the interest materializes into something. Some like to discuss how to do things differently - very well lets do so - but I only like to discuss with those who have comitted themselves. I think this structure will do for a start and then we quickly will be much wiser - and this structure is not complicated to modify. If this community is to be deleted - it looks right now so by 20th August - I certainly hope somebody else will come up with something. I think the interest is there! - Nobody knows of course! My wonders are private and not for public statements You and many others have time for play on BBO - time for reading on Forum - time for posting messages on Forum. Lack of time is not the reason! In a week 40 teams will be knock-outed of the polish tournament after 1 match only - and then what? Lack of time is not the reason for not spending 5 minutes taking care of your options Very well! I have understood things in that way that one of the goals for BBO are to be able to help enhancing the quality of bridge play by ordinary people. Tournaments of different kinds is one way among others for such! There is no difference between players who have already signed up for BBO and those who haven't done so yet. A great part of the present BBO-members are daily breaking the standard code of conduct(just look at the mails for bridgebase@abuse.com or ask the yellow ones) - you have noticed too I am sure John! Hope this was an answer! - Lastly here the link below - and for those who are interested please note! Unless you do something there - the site will soon be destroyed. More here - just register and then we start! http://groups.msn.com/isapi/fetch.dll?action=MyPhotos_GetPubPhoto&PhotoID=nFwAAAJgFjTTIcx5eCvevZF9bQq6*OLkej8q*uvY0eooMUhu0WkMLTg Pair- and team- tournaments http://groups.msn.com/isapi/fetch.dll?action=MyPhotos_GetPubPhoto&PhotoID=nFwAAAJgFjTTIcx5eCvevZF9bQq6*OLkej8q*uvY0eooMUhu0WkMLTg

Getting Rid of the Post - it Notes
csdenmark replied to Laird's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Nice John! I have tried to see if useable as some kind of script generator or as macro's! Maybe you have tested in another way and maybe you will be able to inform how to use: I have created a note from an alert-file with this text: 0-7 any dist or 4441 any strength any short I get this result when pasting: [09-08-2003 14:37:49] 0-7 any dist or 4441 any strength any short How to paste without the date inserted? Does note holder support other formats than plain text? -
I have no intensions argueing with you Allan - of course not - it simply doesn't matter to me. I once had the same problem - it has costed me a lot of wasted hours to find out how the rules are for the companies offering free service of WEB-sites etc. For your information - Yahoo changed their policy as a part of a strategy to revive Yahoo. By that time commercial revenues was reduced dramatically. I have problems accessing my AOL-id so here some info about Yahoo and MSN(Microsoft) Yahoo - No exe-files accepted(fx. selfextracting files) - bat-files runs and produces nothing and cannot download where they are needed - Complicated rules for name of a file(upload often fails) - All costumer Web-sites must carry commercials + Free access to everybody to all web-sites - Uploaded pictures cannot be displayed/re-used elsewhere + Address of the upload-server is a part of file-address MSN - Microsoft + All files accepted + No commercials on costumer web-site(commercials are in the MSN area) + Free access to everybody to web-sites created in MSN-layout - Membership(net-passport) required to access uploaded web-sites + Uploaded pictures can be displayed/re-used everywhere - Address of the upload-server is aut. decided depending on language settings I think some who don't know the rules really don't understand why they can access some of my WEB-sites and then suddenly they receive a message of no rights to access or the files cannot be found. Above you therefore see the compromise I have made for my web-sites and why I use Microsoft

Nice to see several assuming this is a good idea. Looks to me like the standard features provided by MSN is an easy way to handle such. Thats why I created so as done. The rules - see those as proposals - if anybody have better suggestions come with them - but I think those light rules I have proposed will do to make a start. I don't expect much administration but certainly Dwayne you are very welcome. As soon I see you have signed up - I will change you status to be manager - and then you will be able to handle the administration too and create new features. I agree that an exotic league maybe won't be neccessary, but Søren Debois has in another thread proposed tournaments of that kind. No problem to make regional leagues - or perhaps 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd league moving up and down depending of results. Looks rather easy to create the options for such. But all depends of how many who wants to participate. I propose you sign up by the community, register your Team and then we start. If you already have a team - only team captain need to be member of the community. If you are an individual player looking for pair or team you need to sign up yourself and create a record for player. Lets get started - and then we modify rules - maybe some have better suggestions than mine - then we start with those. Ready to start? - sign up here please

I was also encouraged by the polish team-tourney. Around 30 teams will have no more than 1 match - and then what? I think the general interest is for more! I have therefore set up some web-sites for the administrative handle of team-tournaments. I have proposed 3 leagues. * Basic league - unexperienced players - keep it simple * 1st league - experienced players - all systems, all kind of handling * Exotic league - teams playing all kind of artificial systems against each other More here - just register and then we start! http://groups.msn.com/isapi/fetch.dll?action=MyPhotos_GetPubPhoto&PhotoID=nFwAAAJgFjTTIcx5eCvevZF9bQq6*OLkej8q*uvY0eooMUhu0WkMLTg Pair- and team- tournaments http://groups.msn.com/isapi/fetch.dll?action=MyPhotos_GetPubPhoto&PhotoID=nFwAAAJgFjTTIcx5eCvevZF9bQq6*OLkej8q*uvY0eooMUhu0WkMLTg

Gardener 1NT standard Gardener 1NT overcall - version Meckwell 1CDHS 1DHS=NF,5+cd Cue=Michael 2NT=Ogust conv. incl. values Fav:1NT=Gardner 2C=Stayman 2DH=Trans 2S=minors/show str 2NT=14-18 3CDHS=Weak,long I often play Gardener 1NT overcall. As usual strange bids has a tendency to pay off very well. Not because the efficiency of the feature but simply because it is strange to most opps. Everything but simple 5 card overcalls seems to be too advanced to be understood as well by partner as by opps.

It looks like the WEB-site for standard yellow card has been taken down for good. I think the most coherent WEB ressource for advanced standard classic 5-card MAJOR therefore will be: http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/A4/22/bridgeFILES/3/6f.jpg Bridge World standard 2001 http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/A4/22/bridgeFILES/3/6f.jpg

Translation of BBO Forum Please note! This is a fair but not precise machine translation. Those interested are welcome to upload pictures to the community 'bridgeFILES' in this album: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/members.msnw For some who may wonder I have noticed a few times some tried to specify address of their image uploaded to Yahoo. Approx. a year ago Yahoo stopped serving WEB-sites except their own ones. -----NB------NB-----NB-----NB-------NB-----NB----- Terms of service by MSN(Microsoft) is you need to be a member of the community. If you are not a member please follow the instructions from this WEB-site: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/help.msnw After uploading your picture you rightclick your picture in the album and copy the address. The addres for my below picture is: http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/A4/22/bridgeFILES/3/7e.jpg In option 4, 2nd row you choose 'insert image' and then it will need to look in this way: [i.mg]http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/A4/22/bridgeFILES/3/7e.jpg[/img] http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/A4/22/bridgeFILES/3/7e.jpg

Looking for something else I stumpled over this site containing a lot of interesting methods/definitions/hands-on for beginners etc. in bridge. It is based on standard classic 5-card major. A section for extended information you will find too! http://www.prairienet.org/bridge/
