  1. Normally I prefere Truscott conv. over all unknown suits(<4cd) http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/truscott.msnw While creating files for Hamman-Soloway Club I discovered Crash conv. used by that system. Looks great too. CRASH convention A method of bidding defensively against an artificial forcing 1C opening bid developed by Kit Woolsey and Steve Robinson. The word CRASH is acronym for Color-RAnk-SHape. After an opening of 1C forcing bid a DBL or an overcall of 1D or 1NT shows various types of two-suited hands. 1C-DBL=Red or black 1C-1D=MAJORs or minors 1C-1NT=H+C or S+D Mostly 5-4, either suit longest. 1C-1HS/2CD=1-suiter -------------------------------------------------------- Sad to say - anything but the so-called natural overcall partner is normally not capable to understand. Therefore I pass until a suit stated for cue. Yours Claus - csdenmark ;)
  2. Here you find WEB-info about the Law and other important stuff. I think no need to re-write. http://www.users.qwest.net/~jplanier/bridg...ge/linksOS.html Yours Claus - csdenmark ;)
  3. Hi Luis Your log-file for played hands/Vugraph comes in ASCII format. Open your Windows Explorer, right click the file you want to grab some files from. Then you choose to open using a browser for txt-file, I tried Noteblock but Wordpad can be used too, even files not organized very well here. Else you simply go behind applications and open the file you want via application "edit". It is a pure ASCII application. Each deal on each line. Then you simply copy/paste the deals you want for another file and you will be able to view those in normal way. Yours Claus - csdenmark B)
  4. I found this hand provided by eyhung: AKQJxxx Axx xx x Precision(Belladonna/Garozzo) prescribes this to be opened 4D: 10-14HcP,8cd,any or 7cd, headed by ace or king responses: 4H=slam-relay for ace asking 4S/5CDH=ace 5S=No ace 4S=signoff Katherine Wei/Judi Radin: "Precision's one club complete", page 18 You may elect to open 1C without 16 HcP's when you have an exceptional, not simply good, playing strength. For example: AKT983 AKJ98 T9 void or 7 AKJT762 5 AKT9 Giorgio Belladonna/Benito Garozzo "Precision and Superprecision bidding", page 11 Point count is the standard method of evaluating hand strength, and we will use it throughout the text. However, this is basically accurate only for relative balanced hands, and consequently we recommend using a different system for evaluating strongly unbalanced distributions, and all 3-suited hands: counting losers. Please let me conclude here quoting Benito Garozzo: Perhaps the greatest asset of the precision club is the clarity it gives to all other openings(than strong hands 1C/cs) Yours Claus - csdenmark ;)
  5. Hi John I am a proponent of such kinds of standards which will help all and only require the job to be done once. Independently of what you are doing - everything can be done in a better way! On Zone each field is for plain ASCII text, approx. 20 lines can be used. What you write is what to be displayed to all interested. I have no stocks in MSN,lol - but of course I will be prepared trying to clearify: Over opp's NT Brozel over weak Capp over strong Competitive bidding natural over 1C Modified Michaels over 1D 1D-2D(Michael: Majors) Pass=Nothing to say or later Penalty DBL=Bal,invite, No forcing pass 2H=Compare with clubs 2S=Limit raise of D 2NT=Natural 3C=Nat,GF 3D=Compete 3HS=Splinter raise D Rebid: 4NT=Exclusion RKCB 3NT=Nat, D-fit 4C=Fit for both minor 4D/5D=Preempt 4HS=Natural 4NT=BWM -------------------------------------------------------------- The yellow is the field in cc you put your info into. You may put the name of convention or the description of it. You see example of both above. Downloading my files you will have a lot of cc's for you ready to use or just for test. You will find them from here: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/cs.msnw . You will also have cc's in BBO layout. I hope this will do - else please contact me via Messenger. Yours Claus - csdenmark ;)
  6. Sorry - looks like those contributing here are not familiar to the ZONE feature I have advocated for to be implemented. I know Fred and Uday knows, Bridgebase Corp. have programmed the ZONE. For your information I therefore have pasted the ZONE help information regarding this topic in yellow color. Convention Cards What's a convention? A convention is a set of meanings, determined before the game, that partners attach to their bids and plays so that they can communicate information about their hands to each other. Your convention must be made known to your opponents, or else it's considered cheating. There are two ways to let your opponents know you're using a convention: describe your conventions on a convention card, or, during bidding, use the alert button to explain each nonstandard bid. What are convention cards? A convention card is a printed card that lists the conventions that you and your partner have agreed upon. It lets your opponents know the type of convention you're using and the special understandings your team has. Using Convention Cards on Zone.com Bridge Click the conv. card button on the Bridge table to bring up the convention card window. Here, you can create a new convention card by going to the menu bar and clicking File / New . Or you can open a previously saved convention card by clicking File / Open and selecting the file from the convcards folder. The Convention Card window contains the following fields: Names Is where you type your name and your partner's name. Approach Is where you enter the convention name. Doubles Is where you can find doubling information, which includes trick values and penalty information. Over opp's NT Is what you bid over your opponent's No Trump. No Trump openings Is the agreement made between players when a player opens with a No Trump bid. Competitive bidding Is when two teams are competing for the contract. Major openings Is the agreement when a player opens with a Heart or Spade. Minor openings Is the agreement when a player opens with a Diamond or a Club. Slam bidding Is the convention used to try to determine the possibility of a slam. Opening 2 bids Is the convention agreed upon when a player opens the bid with 2 of a suit. Defensive carding Is the communication used between the team that's playing and defending. Other agreements Are any other convention agreements made by players. Features are working in this way: Setting your pointer to a bid, a pop-up window displays the relevant field of convention card(cc). Making an alert-requering bid, you press the alert button and your bid turns up in brown color and opps therefore knows something to set their pointer to bid for to be informed of. If you make an alert-requering bid not explained in your cc, you have 2 options: You will be able to load an interpretation cc containing info for a special convention your present partnership prefer to use instead of the one(s) you have stated in your standard cc for your system Simply to press the bid yourself and explain the bid in the box. This information will then be displayed to opps instead of the information in cc You see - this is how to ask your computer to do the repetitive tasks - that's what computers are created for. Yours Claus - csdenmark ;)
  7. I now see some contributions coming up regarding an alert procedure. Different kind of improvements of the proposal by Rain. - Sorry I think you just forget it is a part of the information procedure of opps. The important part of that in bridge is the convention card The feature of convention card(cc) and alert on ZONE, I think most knows how it is working, is an example to implement - then problems are over. It will not be right trying to re-type parts of cc in a box. Pity to see nearly all of the expert players, even the star-players, playing without a cc. They know better! Yours Claus - csdenmark B)
  8. Looks like the problems I raised 1/2 a year ago regarding information of opps now has been obvious to more players. The thread is here: http://forums.bridgebase.com/in...lay;threadid=86 My solution is beneath pasted 4 prealerts for opps. Sad to say - most dont read that kind of information! Claus Sønderkøge, Denmark - I live in countryside - island of Mors - near the Northsea. ALERT! We play STRONG PASS (Lambda, Beznazwy or Moscito). Pass open=13+HcP, else pass has normal meaning. 1-2 open=8-12HcP. Convention card(cc) is up. Please enjoy and good luck to you! Claus Sønderkøge, Denmark - I live in countryside - island of Mors - near the Northsea. ALERT! We play STRONG CLUB(Meckwell or Precision) – 16+,any dist. Other openings are limited, normally 10-15. Convention card(cc) is up. Please enjoy and good luck to you! Claus Sønderkøge, Denmark - I live in countryside - island of Mors - near the Northsea. ALERT! We play STRONG CLUB(Blue Team or Hamman-Soloway) - 16+, any dist. Other openings are limited, normally 11-16. Canape’ bidding style is used. Convention card(cc) is up. Please enjoy and good luck to you! Claus Sønderkøge, Denmark - I live in countryside - island of Mors - near the Northsea. ALERT! We play STRONG DIAMOND (Quadri Italia, Leghorn Diamond or Roman Club). Canape’ bidding style is used. Convention card(cc) is up. Please enjoy and good luck to you! Yours Claus - csdenmark :)
  9. Right of you to think chmm. Maybe better to take a look into the most popular artificial systems. Then you will be able to make your judgement better based. Your call for tournament director seems based on nothing. The precision 1D opening is normally not alerted. I think those few playing 1D=1+cd will alert it. In precision it is standard to alert openings: 1C, 2C, 2D and to give explanation for 1NT, 2H, 2S. This is the same for Blue Team System. I most think of why you post here without your signature! Yours Claus - csdenmark :D
  10. Maybe I need to clear my last comment a bit. - I don't need such skill-information myself. My concerns are mostly whether players apply to code of conduct. - Violating code of conduct(rudeness to me or others, incognito or simply provides too silly info on their ID) causes such players to be ruled out by me for partnership. - Sorry, here I am more restrictive than BBO. I refuse to play standard classic(sayc,2o1,acol etc.) - given up due to all too many interpretations - which means I only pick up new friends and partners via adverticing. Of course sometimes a new partner wants to querry or teach me. Depending of my mood and health I respond to 1st one. Second time partnership is cancelled and we finish the hand and separate. First time a partner makes an insulting comment he is turned into black and partnership cancelled as well. Due to the fact I have turned chat of from enemies I hear no more from rude persons. As I only play artificial systems misunderstandings in bidding is mostly arising when partner forgets what we are playing. Else partner wants to point out I played the cards wrongly - by that time I already know. Please note - I think all are doing their best acc. to their conditions and I therefore never comment partners doings myself. A few times I have asked partner simply to mail me his important comments. None has ever thought their comments was that important that it was worth that effort! In general I think the cards played ought not to be discussed during game. At the tables I play we very often have polite and lively discussions about everything else(weather, politics, beer etc.) - most feel comfortable in that way I think! Yours Claus - csdenmark B)
  11. Nice to read about all those students - but more interesting I think to read a bit about what you are studying! For those not knowing already - as a member of the proud novices I don't accept teaching/lessons during play. Such need of course to be based on log-files. Yours Claus - csdenmark :-*
  12. Right of course Ron! I think I never see those writing here who I see having problems at the bridge table. I never see those problems causing misunderstandings and partnership-divorses here. Which problems? Transfers - 4 or 5 card responses - requirements for 2-level bidding - responses to weak 2-open - DONT/Capp - etc. you name it! I really think that most of what I see the experts post's on BBO Forum they simply ought to discuss in partnership bidding. Individual layouts are of no interest to me - how to handle such depends completely on which systems and agreements you play according to. I therefore would like the experts to explain how to handle in different systems. The meaning of a DBL dont really have much in common between SAYC and Precision. Playing SAYC or ACOL your response to partner call is of different meaning too. Yours Claus - csdenmark B)
  13. Beginner and Intermediate Bridge DiscussionFor our novice to intermediate members to discuss issues and share advice (and for more skilled players to answer questions :). This is the headline for the sector of BBO Forum you comment on here! Yours Claus - csdenmark B)
  14. I prefere pop-corn. How about that John - selfservice or do you have that on stock too? Tuborg for me - please! _/ skål - cheers Yours Claus - csdenmark ;D
  15. I think I understand you Martin. You like to have the chat communication available when examining your logfiles for games, the card log-file. Only for the Vugraph log-files I think I miss the chat communication. The Vugraph log-files are worth little missing the comments and thats why I myself don't try to let my computer record when I have no time to watch online myself. Maybe such a feature will come some day! Yours Claus - csdenmark :( I certainly hope you are able to benefit from my web-sites. If you need help - I will be at your service.

  17. No sorry John! Only during winter time gap between EST and GMT is 5 hours. During summertime - and we have that now - it is 4 hours. Around 15 years ago time setting around the globe became dynamic. Last weekend I noticed around 200 spectators were 1 hour late for Vugraph. We discussed at the end of the session and I now see you have corrected web-site information to the correct for now: 4 hours. For your information, on the southern part of the globe the time setting switches the other way around due to summer when we have winter. Here is a link for world clock fixed at time for beginning on first session in next Vugraph: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixe...=0&sec=0&p1=179 My suggestion therefore will be not to use GMT but to use dynamic fix points instead. Maybe a fixed world clock link or CET(Rome-Paris-Berlin-Warzaw-Sofia) which always will be EST -6. I appreciate very much I see you provide the european time information in 24 hours notation. Yours Claus - csdenmark :(
  18. Yes Mike I have had the same bad experience - but now no longer. I have given up completely to restrict anything at all. When I sometimes inheritage a table as host I clear the restrictions as soon as I see my preferences automatically have been changed. The same I need to do when I have kibitzed a table and I open a new one myself. - I really dont understand why my preferences are overruled just because I jump in somewhere for kibitzing. I have also been denied access to a partner who were not host. Nobody understands why but it looks like it is often because the present host at that table dont know the features and often were unable to communicate in english. Rude behavior it is - sure - but they dont know themselves. The solution in those cases were everytime that my partner needed to leave the table and we opened a new one with decent settings. Most tables have no reasons to restrict anything at all. For most players the priority no. 1 is to have a free seat filled up - so inheritage a table with restrictions is really a bad experience. Yours Claus - csdenmark ::(
  19. For you to download I have now added files for handling of Moscito, the original pass system in a non-relay version. http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/moscito.msnw Some may have problems accessing the uploaded files. You overcome this problem by changing language into "english US" here: http://groups.msn.com/changelanguage.msnw. The explanation is you are redirected to a Microsoft Server specifically directed for your country. If access is denied for you most probably you need to sign in to NET-passport using this link: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/join ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- Next to come: Hamman-Soloway Club system ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- GENERAL APPROACH Artificial relay systems in which one-level openings(including pass) bear no relation to the bid suit and/or do not promise a "normal" opening strength(All kind of Strong Pass systems, Regres, Delta, No Name, Moscito). MOSCITO - (strong pass - illegal in tournaments) This is a relative simple artificial system. This is the Marston-Burgess system in a simple form without relays. Next bid to opening is relay for clarification/Herbert negative. What is not defined, is natural bidding. Therefore you over a simple relay need to make a forcing bid if you are holding a strong hand. Please note Moscito uses 1H as the very weak opening(<9HcP). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- I am looking for partners: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/cs.msnw Yours Claus - csdenmark :)

  21. You don't need to double-click at all. In Windows, all versions, you can set up to handle everything by single-click. And so it acts on BBO too. To speed things a bit up I think it will be helpful if more players would set for autoplay of singletons. Then you don't need clicking such at all, lol Yours Claus - csdenmark ;)
  22. Hi John(VJ) I would really enjoy to be able to answer your question. Sorry I am not in a position to do so. Rado is my very honoured Delphi for such! I can tell you a bit of how we play the simple version om Lambda: 1C-open: Semi-balanced, 8-12. This means all hands not qualifying for any other openings and has no single/void. This is a bit different in Beznazwy due to the fact openings of majors 1H/1S is <3cd or 6+cd. In reality this often means you are holding an opening hand in other Major. I think you know quite well how difficult it is to obtain information of these type of systems and due to ban of such new literature is not published. I have tried to find books but the only one I have, and it is in english, is: "Introduction to weak opening systems - Regres system". I bought it by Paul Laving in Australia. As I remember it was the last copy on stock, maybe you will be able to find something by Futile Will who is specialized in out of print books. I have asked Hrotgar(Richard Willey) about Moscito's pass-version, the origin by Paul Marston. He was unable to help. I am only a user much enjoying the fun. I try play those 2 systems acc. to the descriptions you have seen. Rest is guessing and natural bidding. - Makes no problem at all. I think this is for everyone to participate and that's important to me. I have asked Misho to help me creating a relay structure and in the near future I think and hope a simple solution for that will turn up as an option. There is a relay - next bid is always a relay for clarification. The openings which needs to be clarified are of course forcing. If you want a well defined relay-pass-system, Regres is the solution I think. I think it is much too complicated for a rarely played system but I have 2 names for you as partners for that system. It is a problem on internet you cannot translate the polish sites via Alta Vista. Here is a link to a site where you will be able to translate phrases of polish text into english: http://www.poltran.com/pl.php4 . I hope very much this was a help - please remember it is not me who is the resource person. Yours Claus - csdenmark :)
  23. The tables I played using beta version had severe problems to load cards, especially after claims. We all needed to disconnect. I have now reinstalled the former version, pity! Claus - csdenmark ???
  24. Yes you can do such. Create a table, make it invisible and reserve seats for your friends. An invisible table is visible only to those inside and those who a seat has been reserved for. I regularly use this feature myself. Claus - csdenmark :)
  25. I like to see some interested to play strong pass systems. On BBO we are a few enjoying the 2 polish systems Lambda and Beznazwy(No Name). We have much fun doing so and try to encourage others. VJ and Inquiry are welcome too of course. The systems can be carried out simple as we do but are created as relay systems. They are both very simple systems you will be able to handle very quick. http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/lambda.msnw http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/beznazwy.msnw Hope soon to meet you as partner or opponent! Claus - csdenmark :)
