  1. No really problem for me Rain - I know how it works and it is not that difficult to set up table. I think it is right there has been more restricted tables - and it is not only they are now more visibile. The snowball effect is the reason and therefore still more restricted tables to come - even many has no really intension of that. To me it mostly looks like an old programming bug which I think ought to be corrected.
  2. Right we dont know the real thing - but that is no reason for not trying to achive what is best possible. The reason for 'defaults' are to help people. Accepting a default you will normally be right in assuming you are applying to good standards. Then you can later modify as you get more information yourself. 'Private' is the default for name - and really many, by registration, just assume this is the right approach to accept. I see many who later switch into their real names. 'Private' is simply misleading for default here. Put in name from registration form as default - then all will be right informed of good standards and it will be needed to modify into something silly like 'Private', 'Mickey Mouse' etc. When you are asked for your name it is a violation of code of conduct refusing to inform. - On BBO you are asked! 'Private' is the default for e-mail. I think that field is of no use - and I would cry dry tears to see that field disappearing. 'Private' is the default skill level. I think this field is of little importance. I would prefere the field simply not to be displayed if not filled out with one of the real options. I think many restrictions we see are made simply because we don't have a button enforcing decent behavior. Therefore several impose their personal standards by restricting entry to tables or tournaments.
  3. I have said it before - the real problem is heritage of table settings overruling your own preferences. As there are many restricted ones software will cause still more of that to come - automatically. Uday - please stop all heritage of settings by other hosts. When I kibitz a table - that host's table settings I have enheritaged as default next time I open a table myself. I really think many restrictions are due to such and not made after a consideration by table host.
  4. Absolutely nobody have a good reason for not disclosing their real identity - maybe except the rude ones! I never accept anonymous people for partnership - but BBO has forced me to accept for opps. A very poor decision I think. The solution is simply to state the name from registration form automatically. ------ here below my information ---------------------------------------------- Hello - I am looking for partner. Incognito's are by me ruled out for partnership due to info here on WEB-sites: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/incognito.msnw

  7. Mauro - not so difficult! Took me about 1 minute to find that. Page 146. Responses exactly the same as those by Belladonna/Garozzo.
  8. independently they read the rules or not - those are to apply to! Other kind of misconduct than regarding tourney's are also to be considered. The BBO register is the place.
  9. Interesting Marc! In 'conditions for contest' BBO = Fred has asked such persons to be reported to abuse@bridgebase.com and I prefer that policy and I act accordingly. I like very much BBO is taking care of rude behavior. I dont think it is wise for others to create private ways. Such simply cannot work!
  10. PRECISION invitional tourney's: This 16 boards tournament consists of 4 rounds each 4 boards. The tournament is unclocked which means less waiting for next round but that you mostly will meet the same opps. later. Slow play results of nothing else but late relief/bedtime. Set up of this tourney is here: http://taken.to/tourney Full information about the tourney is here: http://groups.msn.com/BBOprecision/tourney.msnw
  11. I think it works fairly well. Thats what is missing is more easy to guess in your own language than in a foregin one. I have aut. translation for all my sites. I am only able to check german language myself and that seems rather good. For italian language I from time to time translates from italian into english. Not that easy for me to understand because I still need to guess - in a foreign language(english is a foreign language to danes). By some chinese friends I am told the translation into asian languages dont works well. Languages is composed in other ways. I am unable to understand such simply because the translation facility is for commercial use. If it cannot be used at all it will be of no help to company's. So I think it works with all languages. The first times it is strange to see clubs translated as 'flowers' etc. but you quickly learn such. PS! Always to remember - bridge is translated as a bridge for driving and not as a card game. ---------------------------------------------------------------- You can read BBO Forum in translated mode from this: http://forums.bridgebase.com/in...ay;threadid=820
  12. A good solution for you will be to use the count down feature in world clock
  13. Yes - these precision tourney's are promotional/invitional tourney's aimed to help those interested to take a closer look on precision systems/versions to see if that kind of bridge is interesting to them. Another objective of the tourney's is to help those who want to be better to defend against that kind of systems. I would like to see that all non-precision pairs always played against a precision pair. The BBO format right now dont support that - and therefore some will instead meet polish club pairs. Most need experience with that too I think. In tournament description you are informed of the set up. 16 boards - 4 rounds - unclocked - approx. 2 hours. The first pairs normally finish after 1 1/2 hour and the last pair after 2 1/2 hour. Today 2 hours 38 minutes. Bridge is a thinking game - and all have the right to take the time they need. Connection problems and missing substitutes also counts here. You may have noticed I have disabled the black blinking clock by setting 15 minutes for each board. Those playing quickly are not affected of those playing slowly. Therefore the unclocked format is very flexible I think! I know some of the quick ones want to see the result. I am unable to process the result until the end. In tourney you are informed of this: [tt]This tourney is heading for the end. Hope you enjoyed our hosting. Review of your hands: http://www.bridgebase.com/myhands – Scoring and ranking to be viewed on BBO for approx. ½ hour and for 1 week: http://groups.msn.com/BBOprecision/tourn.msnw[/tt] In that way I hope all are well served!
  14. I think I agree with all your statements. This last solution I hope some day to see implemented.
  15. I really doubt tourneys are more serious bridge than play in main club. To me it looks like many simply play that many tourney's that they really are just another kind of social play. They register for any kind of set up available. A few are more selective - and there I think you may be right! If a person playing in a tourney says hello to me - that person has not only accepted to be distracted but has initiated himself. - Thats the situation I am talking about and nothing else. I am not arranging tourney's for cheaters - I dont like them and I hope they try to avoid me. I therefore have no technical restrictions for tourney's I arrange - but don't be mistaken. If a person is breaking normal standards for personal relations or fair competiition - they will quickly face a hard time.
  16. No Maureen! I think emelnl's statement - and at least mine was - not about the tourney and communication between players/kibitzers. It is about normal social contacts. You log on and a friend playing in a tourney can say hello to you - but you cannot say hello back. Software disallow chat with players is the information you get trying to say hello to a friend from anywhere, lobby, library, table etc. An abnormal situation I think and very unfriendly.
  17. A few days ago I was for the first time forced into such a small team match. We were 3 forced at the same time - me and 'JAPIE2' and 'stemac51' - and we all tried to contact TD but got the info there were none. As none of us 3 intended to play - the tournament was not able to materialize. Excessive requests in tournament area to have that tourney cancelled - which was the result at the end. I tried to find out which tourney I was sucked into - but impossible. The only info I was able to obtain was that there were 2 team-matches at that time set up for 8 boards. I was unable to see in which of those 2 I was sucked into as player - not for substitution - and due to that unable to report TD for harasment. As there were no play I have no log-file. I try to send parts of my chat-log-file for 20031222 to abuse@bridgebase.com. In that I see some ID of players - but I have no knowledge whether any of those were host. As I remember hosts of the 2 tourneys were rather long ID's. But perhaps that logfiles will enable Uday to go into BBO logfile to find the relevant tourney and the name of host.
  18. Thank you Rain - I have now expanded to 44 for next tourney. Hope you are right! I need help for handling the semi-aut. substitution procedure. I cannot test in action where quick and correct handling is urgent. How to do? I right now need to rely on the old procedure. I have noticed fewer persons on substitution list. Is it so that substitution list now is for each tourney only?
  19. The problem with disappearing of the descriptions of the private clubs has been fixed I see. That text now paste itself into the field for WEB-site even I have put web-site URL into that field it next time has been aut. overwritten. I have problems to see how to use the extra space for tournament description as it looks to me I cannot load extra info. In another thread I have stated I am unable to handle the new semi-automated substitution-procedure for tournaments. Maybe here is the right place to ask for how to handle that. I need help for that as it is difficult to try and test the feature during action. I right now need to rely on the old procedure.
  20. A G R E E - It is very annoying. I really don't understand all those who like to organize tournaments for potential cheaters they need to restrict normal social contacts. - Maybe especially I don't understand that people are so eager to play in tournaments that they accept to be deprived basic rights!
  21. Dwayne bridgeFILES are aimed to help me to play several artificial systems correct without the need to remember them in fully. As I offer my files for anybody interested they therefore serve as a tool enabling all to play good and interesting bridge without the risk to dedicate that much of their life to special sequences that they forget what really matters for them in life - daughters wedding, birthday of your wife etc. Therefore you will see the important stuff on bridgeFILES is not the WEB-sites but the download files. The download files which enables me to accept immediate play with new partners without the need to discuss a lot about conventions etc. We simply apply to the system acc. to origin or choose another system. Right now the content is the files I have created. In fact bridgeFILES, like anything else I try to enterprise, is open for all interested to join I will gladly include your files. The format is so that the content must be visible during play alongside bridgetable. The info is defined so that all non-stated info is assumed to be natural. The info contains a full system, offensive, interference, defensive, convention cards, alert-file. Info to be available for view on WEB and in format of 18 pos. width for a package-download. The content is a general option but the selection of systems I also see as some kind of guidance of what is solid and what is not. If your files comply to this I can include them immediately just creating the needed bat-files. Else I will gladly do so later. Solid and relevant stuff in other formats or with other intensions I prefer only to link to. I want to provide relevant information of what others are doing even they dont apply to the format I use.
  22. You will find Meckwell Club system and other champion- and solid Precision versions here: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/precision1.msnw You will also be able to let you inspire from private systems based on the agressive ideas from Meckwell like 'Keylime Precision' and 'Currified Precision'. Last but not least - you will be welcome to join 'The Precision Team Bridge Club' on BBO by submitting your request on BBO and visit our web-sites: http://groups.msn.com/BBOprecision/intro.msnw
  23. Thank you Gerardo for your suggestions. Doing so I fear my objectives will vanish rather quickly. I need approx. 2/3 of the players to be playing best Precision or at least non-natural systems. Expanding tourney's I think I will face the risk of too many standard classic players. - In that case those will not be able to take advantage from the experience intended.
  24. When I run tournaments I think I am able to serve approx. 20 tables in a decent way. I therefore opens for 40 entries. Normally the result of that is 14-16 tables. I think I dare not to accept the many requests I normally receives to open for more tables. I have no idea how many of those who have registered who will really be there. Today tourney opened with only 13 tables = 14 pairs missing. Pity especially because I today had turned many down - 1 asking for 8 persons to be opened for. If I had known that so many was not to turn up I had certainly accepted. It would be very nice to be able to see 5 minutes before tournament start how many of the registered players who were online. I tell people to register early then they will have no problem - but in fact that is no solution. Several of those missing today I noticed had registered some days ago. In fact it looks like it is those registering early who are causing my problems. I also was encouraged by a pole just to expand the tourney - he and friends would be ready to help directing. I turned all down - but I am not sure I was right doing so. How to deal with that kind of problems?
  25. Yes Kitta I see that - but I still wonder why the same application can have such a different approach depending opened from WEB or from own PC. But OK now I know. ---------------------------------------------- Another feature - the new semi-automatic substitution procedure I was unable to get to work. It looked like nothing happened when I clicked a name - both the red(missing connection) and the substituter. I needed to handle the old procedure. What is the procedure? It is difficult to test in action where time and correct handling is urgent. I had much fewer substituters today than I normally have. Is it so that the substitution list now is for each tourney? I think I remember something of that to come. That might be awful when I from january intend to re-start tourney´s aimed for Asia/Europe time zones. By that time I mostly have experienced 1/3 af the participants to have severe connection problems. ---------------------------------------------- For Uday - I needed to disconnect twice due to bad tables where cards didn't download. Looked like some of the players have had disconnections too at the same time as me.
