I dont want to accept that kind of refusals. I therefore never try to enter anything with restrictions - tournaments, tables or whatever. I never restrict anything myself.
-
your awful experience with rude people in tournaments - I have never met. If somebody would attempt such they are informed they will be dismissed immediately. I will not tolerate such - and I am glad to say - such has never accured to me. I have only run unclocked tourney's. To me it looks like they only fair set-up. No complaints - but a few questions. Bridgeplayers are like people are mostly - following the heels of each other until they jump into the water at the edge. Just report the rude persons - you have them in your chat-log. Come on again - who are going to win this battle? The rude ones or the nice ones?
-
No problem - they may do so. Watching as dummy I think you will agree it sometimes looks incredible how much time people uses just to play their singletons. Partner and opps. - no difference. Just to hit the right spot to click - no thinking. But this autoplay will help speeding up for those who are unconcentrated. They of course need to have the connection still - no red dot.
-
As I remember the default setting for 'who's turn' is very light blue. Only a small difference to the other players. I have changed my personal settings so that 'who's turn' by me now is RED, meaning a big difference. If I am right - this might be a reason for unintended delay by many players which I also often have noticed. To speed up a bit I think it also might be helpful to change the default setting to 'autoplay of singletons'.

Thank you Mike - nice to have one to express the important ethics moments in fluent english language. -
With pleasure Fred. I hoped to be able to paste the picture in here - but it looks like I first then need to create a GIF-picture for that and then upload. I hope we can manage without. In profile you have a button: 'Friends/Enemies'. When I enter that I come to manage lists for that. Just above the button 'close' I have a checkbox(which I have checked) called 'Notify me when a friend logs in'. This is an excellent feature - similar to say hello to a friend meeting him on street. But sometimes it can be too much with many friends - some you want to have contact with - some you will be interested just to kibitz - some you have an agreement with for a talk later. Right now I have agreements for contact with 2 in a month or so - they are looking for some literature for me. Such sums up very quickly. With all the many friends with poor connections(Eastern Europe mostly) who needs several attempts for connection and who also often suffers from disconnections - you simply need to put some of them back into blue. Else you can do nothing else than saying hello and close the login-bubble. I also like to be able to keep track of some of the many persons who responds to my adverticings. It is very difficult to handle this smoothly and in the same time trying to be polite and pay attention to the efforts of others. I know very well I am a bit more aware of this kind than most. I don't ask for any special features. These 2 kind of friends list has been asked for by several in more threads. I think I am able to manage - but it is difficult.
-
Right Fred I see it in the same way as you. But my problem is - and I know many has the same problem. Either to disable notification option for friends logging in or to turn them back into blue. I have chosen the last one - not a nice option but before I often scrolled main club for friends in blue. I no longer do so. Pity - 2/3 of my friends I have in this way. What I am interested of is not the stars. Only few of them - and those I have turned as friends. the 800x600 resolution I dont understand. On my screen I think there have been no changes regarding chat area since the bubbles disappeared - something like a year ago or maybe more. Maybe some options I dont use? I have 4 lines in lobby area and 8 in table area I think. - Have I missed something here? I hope you will be right about kibitzers - because kibitzing is an important part of the fun - the social life you may call it.

First, he doesn't have a rebid at all, much less a jump to 4♠... what did he do, misclick a 4 and NT instead of pass. Second, at the very most if he was going to rebid his anemic suit vulnerable on his massive 8 count, would he rebid 2♠, not 4♠. So on a 2♠ rebid are we to believe he double misclicked on 4 instead of 2 as well as NT instead of ♠? Third, and most importantly, even in the wildly unlikely event that he 1) meant to bid 4♠ with this flat, subminimum at imps, and 2) in the process of bidding 4♠ he accidentally hit 4NT instead of 4♠.... there is no justification, or explaination, for his remarkable decision to remove 6♠ to 7♠. With respect I dont understand the word 'anemic' - I cannot find in dictionary - I think you will still stand to your statement below a few days ago. The overcall was good based on 9HcP + 3cP =12cP. No problem there. The RDBL informs you that WEST is an experienced player taking care of his option for an un-beatable top-contract. He can count a slam in spades now. East cannot let 2♥ stand - especially after a positive response by partner. His odd distribution tells him to save in 4♠ or to cue his ♥ace. I think the latter would be for me to do(3♥). If this pair are cheaters - they are pure amateurs. And amateurs they are not - and due to that - sorry Ben - no cheaters either. For sure 4NT is a misclick - I think for 4♠ but might have been for 3♥ or 4♥ too. They cannot correct as the tournaments normally dont accept ability to correct technical problems. When partner goes to 6♠ he simply add his ♥ace for 7♠. Rest is hot air! Fourth, for the record, the NS pair correctly reported this auction to the TD at the time it occured. What would you have done as the TD? Dealer: North Vul: E/W Scoring: IMP North ♠ ♥ QJ43 ♦ KQJ987654 ♣ West ♠ AQ5432 ♥ 2 ♦ A32 ♣ AKQ East ♠ KJ876 ♥ A5 ♦ T ♣ J5432 South ♠ T9 ♥ KT9876 ♦ ♣ T9876 West North East South 1♦! 1♠ Dbl Rdbl 2♥ 4N 5♥ 6♠ Pass 7♠ Pass Pass Pass As you can see, East 1♠ overcall was fine, but after his parnter's redouble, he essentially bid 7♠ on his own. He may as well just have overcalled 7♠ with his absolute minimum hand for a vulnerable overcall. I like the statements by Uday here safeguarding rights for innocent people. Ben you are aware of the principle in that - but when it comes into practice - the wheel seems just running off the track. -

Ben you are very welcome to give me my words back. I enjoy a good exchange of views on a friendly basis - even the words sometimes may touch the walls. From that I think something positive has a chance to arise instead of just repeating standard attitudes. I will here comment about alert box/convention cards. I hope and think John Goold didnt took it so. I still remember the first think session in B/I-lounge. As well Fred/Wayne and you/John Goold played acc. to convention cards. I also remember a comment from Fred that a certain standard bid for him was not possible because convention card, I assume Wayne's, stated some other meaning. So it has to be - so is standard - so is good standard. Thats what I think we all ought to try to be better pursuing. There have been several threads about alert box. I am not against improving performance of that but not on the cost of no improvement of convention cards. Thats the message from me - and in John's reply I read his agreement to that. The rest Ben - later or private. English is not that easy for me to handle - you know that! -
Sorry Fred - no offense intended and I am not aware of an unproper tone here. Maybe the words in a context means something else than just the translation of the words. Of course new features may sometimes cause old excellent features to disappear. I dont know and I really think the price for this is very high here. When I use the word 'forced' it means it is nearly impossible to handle main club without filtering out tables already full. If you want to see if a table to kibitz is on - you need to change your filter settings. I dont do so myself and very soon I think we will just see fewer kibitzers. If you want to see if a friend you dont have marked as friend is there - you will also need to scroll down trying to let your eye catch recognizable ID's - but first you need to change your filter settings. I have many friends I have needed remove friends marking for mostly because they disturb me logging in several times with poor connections. It would be very helpful to have 2 groups of friends - one with with log-in notification and one without.

and the safest view is to assume innocent until proven guilty. So we do in societies based on law and order Ben. Not in this way: After looking at the two other hands, I would look at a selected group of furhter hands this played, I would suspend their log-in rights to the BBO until they answered questions about their bidding/play. The nature of cheating is invisibility. You have earlier in this thread given an unlucky example of accusation of a pair with a simple misclick for cheating. They simply suffered one the many non-serious tournament set-ups. Nothing else! If you want to detect cheating - you will need to be fairly good handling the tricks yourselves. A lot of lucky punches might be suspicious - number 1 on that list will therefore be Meckwell(Eric Rodwell/Jeff Meckstroth). You can see absolutely nothing from 1, 2 , 3 or even 4 hands. You will just be violating normal rules for protection of innocent people. -
Right Mauro - the old sorting mechanism has disappeared. It looks like we are forced to filter feautures out replacing option to be able to see what is on. - Some day they will need to reinstall the old feature sorting acc. to empty seats. Thats the way to do it.

Sorry if you think I am hijacking anything. I thought such not possible. Sorry also for the word 'non-serious' which I have modified into 'non-committed'. I am simply not sure of the precise meaning in english and I think it will help very little to explain my meaning in danish. I agree with you of much to poor performance on BBO of convention cards. As far I have understood that topic is of low priority - so we need to live with that. But poor performance is no reason for not trying to do what is possible and try to use the correct tools. Then the habit will be there if we some day will be lucky of having better convention cards. I rejected your suggestion because so many in earlier threads have been advocating the use of the alert box in many different formats and ways. Not as an additional tool but replacing the bridge standard. That is completely ridicoulos - the way is to use convention cards in a way suited for online bridge play. The performance on ZONE is absolutely excellent - an there it is much more standard to use convention cards - even for basic SAYC-play. I certainly dont reject the use of the alert box. I normally explain my bids even they are to be found in loaded cc. I have standard texts for inserting - so no problem here. We also frequently discuss and provide system information to opps. or partner. To play bridge based on avoidable misunderstandings - is not to play bridge at all. I would like all to convert all their very strange notations on their ID and instead create convention cards for those features. Then they have something real to agree on - and all will apply to good standards. Then you just need to alert and explain if you play with a pick up partner and you needed to agree to something different. So easy is that. As some knows already - all have 2 default convention cards filled out with BBO standard system. From my WEB-sites they have an option to download a package containing 20 convention cards ready to use or to modify from. They are systems acc. to origin. I have also created 4 sites with quick guides for defense of systems. I therefore think there is no really excuse for not to apply to good and correct bridge standard.
-
As far as I remember you can only query once at a time. Next time - if not responded yet - you will have the information query has been made already waiting for response. John as a recognized expert by BBO it is not good enough to support non-committed play. You ought to - like I do - tell all that in bridge convention cards are the serious way for exchange of system information until 3NT. I assume you never play a game yourself unless according to a loaded convention card. John please tell me how many championships you have won or just been able to participate in without a correct convention card.
-
Certainly not. - That's what convention cards are for. Look into 'CONV' - if you find nothing - ask opps to load their cc. Else just guess or find some other opps.

What is bridge? The ability for one person to communicate precisely with another person using 37 commands for deciding which of millions of combinations of the 52 cards which are on the run this time. The quality of your system and yourself to master this is what to be meassured. - As all too many just play private systems/interpretations with insufficient definitions they will just miss the point of bridge. - Fascinating I think! This also means - cheaters can only ruin the fun for themselves - not for others. In the example Ben has mentioned - an accusation for cheating makes no sense. If they really wanted to cheat - they would of course see to that everything looks like normal standard. This means CUE or asking from the strong hand which here clearly will be able to count a slam. Therefore I cannot see it in any other way than those who likes to see the '4NT' bid as cheating are just seeing ghosts in daylight. I like to see actions to be taken against those who are spoiling my fun of the game. That is those who cannot master their own system and those who are leaving the game. To leave a table sucking into a tournament is a major violation and by no means it differs from those just leaving the table for no reason at all. Dealing with rules the word 'consequence' is a crucial word. Arbitrarian decisions are unacceptable! -

There are so many tournaments and really many with no serious set-up. Tournaments are just an alternative set-up of social bridge play. If the tournaments was meant as serious competition you would see important features implemented for that. Those are missing today. All those many persons just jumping from one tourney into another one dont take them as a serious contests. Kenneth I am very sorry if you think they are more serious than other players think. -

Uday I think you are going wrong trying to pursue bidding sequenses. I think you will be right pursuing misconduct and making harm to others. This case mentioned by Ben has harmed nobody. - It looks to me just as a poor case similar to see the reason for intentionally disconnections by looking into scoring. - As Gerardo reported the Yellow ones dont use scoring as an evidence for intension so also bidding, even strange bidding, ought to be a private matter for the pair. They have an obligation to explain - but thats another story. This case here harms nothing and nobody. -

Raise from 6 to 7 makes good sense with missing the CUE for the ace. I think only problem is 4NT which I would bid either 3♥ or 4♠ - maybe a 4♥-CUE. To me it mostly looks like a misclick - and as informed it was in a tourney - most of those disallows UNDO. Ben - right to report anytime needed I think! -

I dont think you have a clear case Ben. I would have made a signoff in 4♠ I think, maybe a CUE of ♥. You told it was from a tourney - I think you ought to consider a simple misclick not possible to correct. Many poles are playing agressive bidding and I have also met people bidding NT for holding missing aces. I think you ought to withdraw your report to abuse-institution Ben. The case is too poor. If somebody want to spoil the fun for themselves - let them! In that way they cannot spoil the fun for me. I would instead prefer to have those persons who are aut. sucked out of a bridge-table in favour of a tournament to be reported for misconduct. They are ALL spoiling my fun. -

I have never tested Jan but I think if you want me to have your sound on my computer you need to upload your wav-file to WEB. Then I think all will be able to have that as the link might be specified as a link. Else it certainly will be downloadable. The only problem - the sound will then apply not only fx. to your login or so but for login by others too. I only wanted to inform that the default sounds of BBO are possible rather easy to customize. I think it will be possible to find sites on WEB with many kind of sounds exactly like you have many sites providing images, fonts, buttons etc. Such can be downloaded and put into the folder replacing the default sounds. But else you can just record a sound yourself. How about "Gladiators entrance" from Aida every time a friend log in :D .
