  1. Ben I wrote Coyot as an american because I thought I was able to remember he had informed he lived in western USA - but I may be wrong on that. I have now tried to find out - my only source of information is time-setting. From that it looks like 7 hours behind CET which means Chicago time. Whether correct or not I certainly don't know. Mexico, Bolivia etc. will be options too.
  2. For pick-up partnerships it is a really poor thing. For opps. too. I all to much need to play contracts bidded by opps. based on misunderstandings because of a pick-up partnership. Most partnerships in on-line bridge are so. Occasionally I would like to know what partner has explained if anything at all. Simply to overcome the language problem and the cultural problem my partnership is facing when I am playing with a pole who is unable to communicate in anything else than polish language. So also here it might be wise to look at the other side of the coin.
  3. Fill in your convention card and load it. That's the backbone in bridge. In that way you will also inform opps. of the relevant possible alternatives - they are just as important as the explanation itself.
  4. I remember the post from Ron - nothing for me but now I have been a bit wiser on this delicate topic. For a few days I have really wondered what kind of subversive material which really qualifies for interference. I now understand that false accusations based on deliberate lies are OK but when it comes to questioning the wisdom of a public person it will not be OK. - Very interesting Ben!
  5. Please don't try to educate me. I am not interested in the american way! If you really want to teach somebody something - try to explain the americans what it means to go international.
  6. It is always wise to guard your own interests. Simply put your query for opps. into your own pre-alert. Be sure you always play according to convention card yourself ensuring you that you are not the one to be blamed. I happened to see yesterday that ACBL tourney's are penalizing players with no convention card posted. That's serious and playing those tourney's your problems are over.
  7. Completely correct. But please let me repeat. Until publishing they can deny anything they want to deny and no reason need to be given. This board has facilities for doing so - but BBO hasn't taken advantage from those. Therefore we have this debate approx. once a year. After publishing they have no rights to touch the published material. Perhaps this strange sounding idea is correct under Danish law, though I doubt it. It is certainly incorrect under American law. Someone writes a book and submits it to a publisher. They publish it, but large numbers of people are offended and the publisher withdraws the book, recalling unsold copies from the book stores and refusing to print any more. This is indeed "censorship" in the larger sense which can encompass private action, but it is perfectly legal. [in abscense of specific contract provisons denying the publisher this right--this is unlikely as these contracts are drated by the publishers and they are noramlly quite careful to reserve their rights.] The author as copyright holder can of course seek another publisher or publish it himself, just as if the publisher had rejected it originally. Please stop referring to danish laws. Nothing here has anything to do with danish laws. What this thread is about is violating binding international conventions the content of which all memberstates of the United Nations have obliged themselves to convert into national law. Withdrawing a book. Yes we have such a case in Denmark right now. A well known journalist who has written a book about the former Foreign Secretaire of the United States Henry Kissinger. Unfortunately he has not only quoted smaller sentences from other sources but whole and many chapters forgetting the sources completely. This book has been withdrawn. Censorship or not? Unless the journalist has asked the publishing company to do so - it is censorship. The journalist has very good reasons for asking the publisher to withdraw the book - else he will find himself as subject in noumerous law-suits. I think his reputation has already been ruined and he looks no longer active as journalist.
  8. Try this - many languages including polish supported. http://www.translation-guide.com/free_onli...glish&to=Polish
  9. Yes I do. My assumption is that most players prefer to use the strongest tools they are able to agree on. So do I. If it looks like Polish Club might be an option for Opps. I ask for a confirmation. If I forget it doesnt matter much with simple 1-level responses to 1♣ but if something else come up I query immediately - no matter the system. I always query 2-level openings(no matter the system) and are on special alert for SEF 2♣♦-openings. Same for Acol Dutch.
  10. I think you have forgotten you have chosen you have gone international. This means you have some advantages and some dis-advantages compared to national habits. One of the important things to remember is that SAYC is no universal system - it is a national standard just like Polish Club, Bridgevejen, BIN, SEF etc. Habits for alerts are normally that you dont need to alert standard bids of your national standard system. The simple way to take advantage from your frustrations is to use 30 minutes to study the basics of Polish Club system. It is the national system which differs most to SAYC.
  11. I think that's what convention cards are for. Playing with opposition without convention card you will be right quering ALL of their bids. A good way for disciplining them.
  12. Sorry Jack I misunderstood you. To query a bid after the auction is ended looks a bit late to me. I think if that is needed other kind of actions will be right instead.
  13. On some other playgrounds a new deal comes up only after all 4 players have accepted that. I think that would be a nice improvement. The most important by such a feature I think will be to define the time between end of a deal and until next deal is loaded to be the only time where players will be able to leave the table in good order.
  14. Just left-click the bid you want to be explanied Jack. It dont need to be last bid so if you later in the sequence think this looks strange you just left-click. Doing so the alert-box pops up by your opps. After the reponse by opps. the bid will look as alerted and explained from the very beginning.
  15. A redeal-request is an act of courtesy helping you to avoid wasting your time testing obsolete contracts. For bridge 4 committed players are needed and as soon just one redeal-request has informed you that the deal is pure waste you have no longer any options for serious bridge than to accept. A redeal-request carry this message: Sorry Opposition. We have made a serious and unrepairable mistake which makes this contract meaningless to test. I propose we skip this. We intend to do our outmost to avoid such mistakes. Lets advance for a new deal instead of wasting our lives with meaningless activities. Do you agree? Your rightful action to redeal-requests ought to be : A smile A 'thank you' A quick click at the 'accept' button Jack, I am also one of those who think it is a pity that focus during last 2 years has been directed to other areas leaving many new problems to Main Club players.
  16. Sorry I have needed to report you for this: Spamming BBO-Forum: Directing false, groundless and undocumented accusations against me:
  17. Whether anybody will be free to post anything here is completely up to BBO. They have decided they are not - and I think good so. But in fact not of my business. I prefer to avoid interfering with others businesses. Once posted only the author has the legal rights to modify or delete. ------------------------------------ Danish legislation has nothing to do with this topic. I have made no comparions to danish legislation. I have explained that danish law normally complies to internationally conventions regarding human rights. That's what this is about. ------------------------------------- The rest of your posting I cannot judge whether serious or not. For this below please find the quote. Unless you do so or come with an apology I intend to report you for false accusations. Here is the link for my postings: csdenmark's postings To be sure you see this message I have mailed it for you.
  18. Completely correct. But please let me repeat. Until publishing they can deny anything they want to deny and no reason need to be given. 19. Right we have many of such kind of laws - and all democracies based on law have that of course. The point is decisions are made by the judicial system and by that body only To me it really looks like many of the posters here need to think about the basics for constituting the democracies they benefit from. Freedom of expression is no god-given gift - it is an every day strugle. The story from yesterday is from Ukraine - here quoted from Daily Telegraph in UK(updated today I see): Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko
  20. So you agree with the fact that your posts will be decent (to summarize). By posting offensive posts, you're breaking that agreement, not the other way around. You also agree with the fact that BB has the ability to remove objectionable messages. However, sometimes me and others don't agree with the way the posts are removed (in this case an entire thread). I read this post as 'the technical ability'. - Then completely right. Regarding the moral and legal issues involved your post informs of nothing. That's what this thread and the whole discussion is about.
  21. I hope you are just joking Mike. A legal case against you will be very strong. Also please think it over - most societies today are based on the principle of intellectual rights. If your interpretation would prevail your society will be ruined.
  22. Right Todd - anybody has the right to decide what and who to express on their private property. Anybody has the right to open a media restricting it in whatever way they feel. Until expressions have been published the owner have all rights. - The point is they haven't taken advantage of their rights and therefore they have to live with all the consequences of that. But the important matter is here and you have heard it in all the threads here on BBO-Forum where we have discussed censorship, approx. once a year: As soon material has been published you are not allowed to delete it or touch it in any way. It is not your property. Your way is a lawsuit - and that only.
  23. This is what is violated here: Article 19. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. In other languages you find here: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Sad to say - but in general we in Europe have the impression that those binding rules are violated by americans when they become unbequem - but it is such cases they are really needed. Uday and BBO, please see to that appropriate measures now will be taken so we can avoid more of those kind of disastrous and unworthy methods.
  24. Pity - makes no sense Uday! The violation of the basic principles for freedom of expression you have violated. As I remember you have defended those rights earlier here in this Forum.
  25. I wonder why censorship need to be a returning problem for this Forum! This Invision Power Board offers filters to secure that a debate can be limited to using decent language. I think controversial postings are not about odd bid-sequences but more substantial stuff with persons acting in a specific way. If such stuff is handled in a responsible way there is no good reason for any kind of intervention. In general I prefer and I would very much like to see BBO to take proper action against persons violating the basic rules for decent human behavior as outlined in 'Rules for these sites'. All too much on BBO, not only in BBO Forum, looks like happening according to the 11th command:"Unless you are caught - it will be OK".
