Looks interesting Nikos. I like to use your files for my web-sites for documentation of the history of the classical strong bridge systems. How do you prefer. 1. I upload your files with general reference and source link to you 2. I link the individual files to you I prefer No. 1 if OK for you! Yours Claus Blue Team and Sharif Bridge Circus

BridgeBase Online Logo
csdenmark replied to inquiry's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I need to ask whether this http://forums.bridgebase.com/style_images/1/logo.png has replaced this http://www.bridgebase.com/index_files/bbologo5.gif as official logo for BBO. I have some references on my WEB-sites for BBO and I of course prefer to have it correct. The new logo looks a bit difficult to resize and it don't looks very well on a background different from white. Site with new logo Site with old logo -

I wonder from where you are printing the whole bidding tree in the Editor mode. I dont see the Print button anywhere. Unless you are printing the Notepad or Word version of the FD file I have no need printing anything. If I need to find specific features I go into there in FD or simply open FD-file using WORDPAD with and excellent search/replace function. Thats very simple. For Frances. No I don't edit magazines and normally I don't write rude letters for anybody. Those I communicate with MUST be able to communicate electronically - computer/phone/Messenger. Else no communication possible - simple as that. Denmark is rapidly converting into that kind of virtual society these years - and I support so very much and try to take advantage from that too of course. -
If you are on version 4.5.7, you can update to the latest beta version 4.6.0 ( with which you get FD ver 1.2.2) here I dont know which version I am using - but it works. It was just a little message that probably there is a problem about loading cards. The other thing I wanted to say is that BBO download sites has an older version uploaded. I have fixed my problems - thank you.

'Try and error' is a perfect way to learn from. If your first shot is not perfect then you have learned more. The whole thing is very simple and logic. Make a copy of a default card and modify that. You will quickly grab the ideas. You can print from your editor the whole structure. I wonder why - I have had no printer connected for the last 5 years now. -
00 This means all positions and all seats. So you can conclude the digits depends of those kind of features. Maybe for you to test and write the manual. I am sure as soon you have done that it will be upgraded to be a sticky topic.

what is your opinion? Nearly all leaving my table in the middle of a hand are sucked into tourney by BBO software. Looks like sucking into team matches has diminished.
-
Not about this - but might be another kind of bug. Occasionally I need to update BBO because convention cards will not load. Today I needed so and got confused as I made a complete download from WEB-site. The version I downloaded was from before the VULN bug was fixed.

I am not exactly sure what is referred to here. But copy paste in ordinary editor is no problem. Then simple to delete unwanted sequences in FD. Copy a tree structure in FD from system 'A' and then try to paste that structure opening system 'B' in order to paste into that I get an error message which Windows asks me to report to Microsoft. Then FD application shuts down as normally done after all kind of severe errors in software. Looks like a smaller bug of little importance I think.

Sounds right. I received I think 6 phising mails pretending to come from BBO. After Ben informed they were likely to come from Sober Virus they have stopped. All other phising mails seems to have stopped too. I have wondered - but likely Microsoft has updated their filter to catch them. I have not my Email adress on ID but instead my web-address. There my Email is public and I think I am not especially hurted from spamming(3-4 a day normally). I doubt it has anything to do with BBO.

Except for a psyche - right Ben? I think I have heard that psyches are prohibited in ACBL tournaments - but my question is in general.

You have it! - I hope some sunny day to have fun with you

4432 No Ken - Jeff has denied 4 spades. Thats not the distribution. Jeff has shown minimum and a bad 4♥. He has shown MAX 12HcP or a wrong opening. Over that Eric would be crazy to bid over game. Meckwell cc states agressive bidding and emphazise but not crazy

Thank you Fred. Looks reasonable and logical. I take your information as there have been no tightning of official rules. Whether any kind of pressure(nobody knows of course) or official modification of the rules. But Fred the only thing in common for the americans and the italians I mentioned are that it is all regulated under the rules of Brownsticker. Bocchi-Duboin have never had special kind of weak features. It is a canape' overcall structure. Down to 2 card overcalls for second best suit but the best suit is 5+cards or in some cases 4-4 MAJORs. Sound suits and sound values. May I read you in that way that it was all youth fancy stuff not well suited for mature persons? I took a brief look into Bertheau-Nystrøm and here it looks too that they have lifted their lower level. I will be very excited to watch whether Lars Blakset also have abolished his 2♠ preempts. Those have been by him for more than 15 years now(Nusine Club). Until next European Championships we will need to wait for that. Same for Aa-Groetheim(Viking Precision) and their 7-11HcP, 5-5 openings excluding 1 minor suit. Openings 2♥ and 2NT.

Eric needs Jeff to have some non-4333 with two Aces and two Kings for 100%; change something slightly and it is 50% (on a finesse). Fine Ken - Now you have given the explanation. Eric needs 14-15HcP. Jeff have shown 10-12HcP(more 10 than 12) and 2-3♠. Likely to be values in minor else rebid had been different. If 13-15HcP Jeff had opened 1NT. Thats why no slam try.

In another thread an example came up indicating a misjudgement in slam approach by Eric Rodwell. As the thread by the starter of that has asked not to de-rail the thread I think it is right trying to avoid so. As the deal in question is not disclosed I am not sure whether the exact problems arise from misjudgement or a fall-back to their earlier disputed brownsticker features they now have abolished. I assume the latter. I have noticed that 3 top-pairs for Bermuda Bowl 2005 all have handicapped themselves abolishing their brands. Rodwell-Meckstroth: The weak preemptive openings Hampson-Greco: The same preemptive openings Bocchi-Duboin: Canape' overcalls over natural 1♣♦ openings They are all disputed brownsticker features and at the same time ancher-features. This means they in general are only allowed for Bermuda Bowl and there only for team-trial. To me it looks highly unlikely that all 3 pairs independent of each other have chosen by the same time to handicap themselves. To me it more looks like interference from organizers; might be a tiny hope to see new nations on top in Bermuda. Does anybody know what is behind? New regulations or really a simple 0.0001% coincidence?

I don't think that Meckstroth miscounted his points or forgot a basic bid in his system. What happened here is that Rodwell intentionally did not try for slam even though he surely knew that 12 tricks were possible opposite some hands. Probably Rodwell's reasons for this decision were similar to those that I suggested in an previous post in this thread: He made a tactical decision that turned out to be a loser opposite the actual hand that Meckstroth held. Fred Gitelman Bridge Base Inc. www.bridgebase.com I don't want to interfere with your conclusions Fred and I dont know the holding. But I know in Precision in general and Meckwell incl. 1♦ is an Achilles-heel though normally fairly precise due to playing weak NT catching the somewhat stronger balanced hands. Meckstroth seems to have opened either of these: 3-4-3-3, 2-4-4-2, 2-4-2-4, 2-4-5-2. They are all opened in Meckwell Club as 1NT if range was 13-16HcP. Holding any short rebid would have been 2♣: a 3-suiter or 2-suit/minors or rebid would have been 2♦ : 4♥,GF(undisclosed values) rebid would have been 3♣: Limit 4♥,0-1♠ From above I think the rebid of 2♥ simply means nothing else than a minimum balanced hand. Thats the one they earlier gambled with in favorable VULN. as 1NT opening. Then the sequence 1D(nebulous)-P-1H-P-2H in favorable would instead mean range 13-15HcP. Playing Precision your mind after 1♦ is mostly focussed on a partscore battle lucky if you can find values for a game. I think Rodwell had that in mind too. I think we who tried to watch most of their Vugraph for last Bermuda all noticed that 2005 was no brilliant performance. We hope to see them in better shape. After all I think thats the difference between human beings and computers. Nice to see that also the highest stars sometimes have a human face.
-
1D(nebulous)-P-1H-P-2H Ken - hoping not to miss your point. To me it looks like the 2♥ is the devil here for missing a possible slam as I understand you. Acc. to Meckwell Club system the basic principles are: 1st step : Raise with xtra 3rd step: Limit raise 5th step: Preempt You see 2♥ is 5th step and it is defined in Meckwell system as 4♥,poor. 4th step here(2♦) is defined as 4+♥,GF and 3rd step might be 3-suiter. 2♥ is discouraging for responder, indicating minimum(10-12,bal for) for an opening hand.

I strongly disagree: this information is only useful in very specific circumstances. Most of the time the possible outcomes are "♣ ♦ ♥ ♠ NT Def" and this string clutters up the display. (If you don't believe me, try unchecking all of the possible outcomes - the display is so much more readable!) Also, even in those situations where the information is useful, there are better ways of presenting it. For example, if your bid agrees hearts as trumps, you could write "sets ♥". This is much easier to understand for the reader than changing from "♣ ♦ ♥ ♠ NT Def" to "♥". (It also neatly avoids the question of whether you can get back to other suits after agreeing trumps.) If you're using FD primarily as a tool to help you learn your bidding system, then fine. But I believe its main use is as a convention card, and then you have to question whether displaying this information for every bid is really helpful. Also, even in those situations where the information is useful, there are better ways of presenting it. For example, if your bid agrees hearts as trumps, you could write "sets ♥". The feature is there to help you to explain in a uniform and simple way. Nobody interferes with you not taking advantage of that. But I believe its main use is as a convention card, and then you have to question whether displaying this information for every bid is really helpful. Convention card is the basic way in bridge for information. Full disclosure is mandatory in bridge. I am sure you know that!

Regardless of whether this is part of Meckwell Club, it is decided NOT Lebensohl... I refer to Lebensohl acc. to Ron Andersen "The Lebensohl Convention complete in contract bridge" 1987, Devyn Press Inc., Louisville, Kentucky. This is from page 61. Meckwell use Lebensohl over premptive openings but in their cc they don't describe if they have modifications. Therefore I assume they use an authorized version like the one I use. Thats the context Richard.

You remove the option 'Defend undoubled' when you are sure it is no longer an option. Something like you make a call for slam. Could be 4NT or CAB response after strong ♣ openings(16+HcP) with 4+controls. The same you use for other features like preempt in MAJOR. Ordinary major openings and response in other major. Then you remove options for minor outcome. For major openings(5+cards) and response 3+cards support you remove minor outcome and other major and responded 4+cards support you remove as well minors, other major as NT outcome. For slam try you may need to add the NT outcome again. Gerben I use those options - but of course make creation of the cards more complicated - but I really think it is a very useful feature.

I see BBO has this new style convention card utility that seems to be called "Work Convention Card". Is that related to FD? Thats exactly what it is. I tried Google search - the results there has nothing to do with BBO. The application opening in your computer is called 'Bidedit'. Also obsolete results for that in Google. Your desktop search will solve the problem. I received 4 files for Bidedit and 2 for Full Disclosure on my PC

how do I start using the new convention card?
csdenmark replied to mamo2500's topic in Full Disclosure and Dealer
I opened BBO advanced, editor, pressed 1 ♦ and 2♦ and pressed copy... Then I opened BBO merged, editor, pressed 1 ♦ and paste... then nothing happened for a while and then came an error message from internet explorer... I must be doing this just the wrong way. In respect regarding Internet Explorer Marianne you are right - you are doing wrong. This has nothing to do with IE browser. The simple way is to use ONE file and ONE file only. No merge or fancy stuff unless you are computer expert - I understand you are not. * Copy and paste in your Windows Explorer the file you want to use as basic. * Rename your file * Delete the features you no longer want or overwrite them with your info Copy/paste tree structure is to help aleviate tedicious tasks - but if you are not good in computers - write them the 2 or 3 times exactly where you want them. That is completely logical - what you see is what you get.
