  1. If you play drury, you would bid 2♣ with good 8/bad 9 + HCP, so I think it doesnt make a lot of sense to play 1♠-2♠ as 7-8. Regardless I think bidding 4♥ is clear, the hand has massively improved after the 3♥ bid.
  2. I dont think anyone did something wrong, just tough luck.
  3. I strongly agree with the double of 1♥. Whether or not you should raise to 2♠ is trickier, its possible that partner has only 3♠ and a very bad hand. He knows you will have 4 spades about 90% percent of the time so if he has 4 and short clubs he should compete to 2♠ himself.
  4. ♦A for me. We may have ♥ruff, ♦ruff or ♣ruff coming.
  5. I would double for sure and don't think its close.
  6. I would have opened 1♦ and rebid 1N after 1♠. The slam is pretty poor anyway, so I will be happy to avoid it.
  7. A2♦ call is forcing 1 round and promises at least some values.
  8. 100% North. I dont like 3♣ with a 6 card suit at unfavourable, especially when you have support for all 3 suits. As others mentioned, South has an obvious pass.
  9. 1♦-2♦ 2♥-2N 3N-4N all pass. At least 50% of the blame should go for agreeing to play minorwood.
  10. 1.Pass clearcut as others suggested 2. I would certainly double in case partner has a penalty pass. I have AK A and if partner has a real penalty pass I expect 500-800. I would take me something like KQxx - Qxx KQxxxx to not double with a void.
  11. I would pass in tempo for the reasons others suggested. I am not a fan of these romex game tries. I have the feeling good ops can use the additional information very well to find the wright lead/defence. And when we happily write +140 in 3M= we are probaly -620 at the other table when they blasted and teammates failed to make the correct lead/defence with the limited information.
  12. A self splinter would work pretty well here, but I am not sure I would do it with such a broken suit when partner has maximum 2 cards. For me a self splinter would show a suit that can play reasonably well opposite a stiff.
  13. Pass. Maybe they will balance and then you can double for takeout, maybe partner doesn't have a 4 card major, maybe 1NT will score better even though you have an 8 card fit.
  14. I don't like 3NT with the stiff Ace and 5-5 when partner couldn't double and I don't want to bid 5♣ with 1st round control in hearts and a nice hand. 4♣ would be nonforcing for me so I am stuck with 4♥s. Hope partner doesn't get too excited.
  15. After 5N I would just bid (the obvious?) 7NT (maybe 7♥ if it was IMPS). After 5♥ I think its clear what is trumps, I cant imagine partner bidding 5NT without 3 first round controls, so I cant see how its wrong to bid the grand. I doubt partner will bid 5N with a void, but maybe I should bid 7♥ just in case there is no way to get to dummy.
  16. I would bid 4N and raise 5♣ to 6 (with 5-5 I would have bid 6♣ directly so partner should know). The spade void is huge and partner will not be able to visualize it. Partner already showed something positive so I don't want to put too much pressure on him bidding on. Expect that slam will have good play most of the time.
  17. Agree with 3♥, now 5♥. Partner should work out to bid 6♣/ NT with Kx of diamonds since he knows I lack diamond control. 4♦ will get us nowhere and 4♥ looks like a huge underbid (though can be right). I would think that a jump to 4♥ shows a weaker hand- like KQxxxxx and out or + a side card. Basically a hand that doesnt want to play slam and cant play any other contract than 4♥.
  18. I remember that in some team game my partner led something against a suit contract, I won and switched to my stiff. Declarer now asked partner about our leads and got the prompt response 3/5. She played low and immediately called the director when I ruffed the next round. She said that if she had known that I may have a stiff, she would have won the ace and drawn trumps!
  19. A sane auction would be 1♦-(3♣)-3♠-(5♣) 5♠-p-6♣-p 6♦-p-6♥-p 6/7♠-p-p-p As others pointed out North had absolutely no idea what he was doing. How can you think 6♠ is void showing. I mean whats the point of showing a void when you have already forced the bidding to a grand slam? Besides bidding a grand is inconsistent with the inability to bid 6 at the last turn. You can hope partner holds -- AKxxxx AKxxxxx -- bun in this case he has misbid 5 times already.
  20. 1. 1♦-2♦ 4N-5♦ 6♦ (if MP maybe explore 6N) 2. 1♦-2♣ 2N-3♠ 3N-4♣ 4♦-4N 5♦-7♣ I dont see an obvious way that leads to the better 7N 3. 2N-4♥ (transfer to clubs, slam try) 4N-5♦ (not interested/ RKCB ♣) 5N-6N (2 without queen)
  21. Hi, As a general rule it is not a good idea to use RKC when you have void. Your partner could have the ♥A instead of the king of ♠ in which case you would rather play a small slam. There are 2 ways to get around this: 1. You can let partner Keycard and then have a special response to show your void. For example I play that 5N over 4N shows even number of KC and a void, while 6x shows odd Number and a void. 2. You can use Exclusion Keycard, which basically asks partner to show all his KC excluding the Heart Ace. A jump to 5♥ over 4♣ would be Exclusion Keycard. Hope this helps.
  22. Sry I cant see how North overbid, with double fit and all his points in partner suits passing 3♦ would be pretty bad IMHO. I agree 3♥ is better than 3♠. While I see that getting hearts into the picture is very important, I dont think its such idea to bid with such a subminimum hand. Even if you bid 2♥ with any hand holding 4+ hearts, 3♥ will make opposite many hands as others pointed out. Edit: Looking at South's hand again, it doesn't look so bad to me now, it is not terrible 13 count. But if you opened with AJxxx Axxx Qx xx I think you should pass.
