  1. I don't fault partner for a 2/1 GF 2♥ response with that eleven+ count... the ♠Q x is golden. And I can't find fault with his 3♥ rebid. That said, a 3♣ rebid instead would have disclosed a potential ♦ problem in NT. But, YOU could have instead rebid 3♣ over 2♥.... which also might have steered you away from NT.
  2. All red... 2/1 GF.. so 1NT! is forcing . N/S can actually make 13 tricks in ♥ . 2DX making 10 tricks by East was about -13 IMPs for N/S . I guess the key question is... is the DBL T/O or penalty or optional if North has a ♦ stack ? 3. Hand 2 ... is Leaping Michaels ON over the Ogust-2NT ? If so, 4C-jump shows strong (5/5)+ in the blacks. At least you will get to game, but I doubt slam.
  4. GMTA... back in January, I proposed the same 4♣! ( next unbid suit ) to show the double-fit in a similar auction: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/50684-what-are-your-thoughts/ ... ( post # 16 ) But I won't go so far as to say my thought processes are similar to KenRex.... lol ... although his posts, like yours, inspire me also.
  5. NF " The only forcing bid for the Neg-DBLer is a cue-bid " ( 3H here ).
  6. On or off, you need to just bid 3NT yourself with that 19 pointer.... or a timid 2NT .
  7. Ken... 1) What is your option when Opener has a fit for the MINOR only ? 1NT - 2♦ ( transfer ) 2♥ - 3♦ ?? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ron ( thehog ) has posted his answer ( in other posts ) for the double-fit auction cases: He said that a "new suit" by Opener would actually be a cue-bid showing the double-fit: 1NT - 2♦ ( transfer ) 2♥ - 3♦ ?? 3♠ = cue-bid showing 3 cards ♥ AND 4 ( or 5 ) cards ♦, ( double-fit ), whereas, 4♣ = cuebid for the double-fit, denying a ♠ control .
  8. I've posted this a few times in the past... from a fellow nicknamed IanD : 1NT - 2D! ( transfer ) 2H - 3C ( 2nd suit ) ?? 3D! = ( 3-"cheapest" new suit ); 4+support for Cl; only 2 cards Hts 3H = 3 cards Hts; NO 4 cards Cl 4C! = double-fit; 4+cards Cl AND 3 cards Hts... sweet !
  9. bd71..... 1) What was partner's hand ?? 2) One unconventional (unorthodox ) bidding treatment for this awkward situation for Responder is as follows ( by agreement ): 3S = 5+ cards Neg X = at all levels ( with appropriate values ) promises 4 cards ♠, but says nothing about ♥ 3H = 4+ ♥ Thus, in this situation: (p) - 1D - ( 3C ) - 3H
  10. 1NT - 2D! 2H - 3S! ( splinter ) ?? Now I need a ♣-cue and if I get one, then I'll use Meckwell for RKC: ...... 4NT = Voidwood for ♥, excluding ♠Ace ...... whereas 4S would be ordinary kickback RKC for ♥.
  11. Without interference, 2H! over 2D is Leb. [ See the "pinned" primer on Reverse bidding at the top of this forum ] . Perhaps it should still be with the 1H interference on this hand. That way, it leaves room for Opener to first bid NT ( 2NT ) with ♥-stop(s), especially if he had A Q .... Of course in this example, he doesn't have hearts.
  12. What if there were no interference. Does the "slow" way to 3NT "show" a stop in the 4th suit -- ♥ ? Does the "direct" way "deny" a stop ? Personally, I can't recall ever using the "slow" Leb route to 3NT after a Reverse, and, unfortunately, I don't have my Anderson Lebensohl reference with me.... lol . EDIT 1: Anyway, by a similar theme, I have game values for 3NT where "slow-shows" stop(s)in opp suit ( ♥ ), and " direct-denies" a stop . EDIT 2: Well, I can see something wrong with the above approach: The lead will be into through Opener's hand.
  13. Isn't this a case for Good/bad 2NT ?
  14. IMO.... this is brilliant..... and could be used even if North were Declarer.
  15. The following could mean: 3NT = stop(s) in ♠ and ♦ 3S = stop(s) in ♠, not ♦ 3H = stop(s) in ♦, not ♠ Sooo, 3S is my choice.
  16. I think any of these auctions, including mine in post #4 , should stop in 6S. Void auctions tend to solicit a trump lead, thereby reducing the number of X-ruff tricks .
  17. If you have a way for North to show a void-splinter in Clubs, South may not be timid even with his paucity of points: South 1S - ( X ) - 3NT! [ void splinter somewhere ] 4C! [ asks ] - 4S! [ ♣-void ] 5S! [ asks for trump quality ] - 5NT! [ Josephine = 3 top trump honors ] 7S
  18. 6D My guess is partner has 2 key cards for his bid.
  19. 1M - 2m! 2M = Ken Rexford has said ( in a different post ) that Larry Cohen and Eric Rodwell says it promises 6.... whereas 2NT shows 5 . But I also seem to remember that I saw in some post that you can interchange 2M and 2NT after a 2/1 GF : ..... 2NT! = 6 cards ..... 2M = 5 cards Am I remembering correctly ? Would it be of any benefit here ?
  20. I let it "slide" to 4 cards ♣ with good GF values .
  21. I like Max Hardy's treatment ( from his TWO OVER ONE GAME FORCE book ). Most "here" tend to "poo poo" his methods, but the 1D - 2C! treatment is logical and straight forward. The first obligation for Opener is to rebid his 5+ ♦ suit: 1D - 2C! = 5+ ♣, does not deny a 4 card Major; ........... planning to show the 4 card Major next if he has one . 2D = 5+♦ but does not deny a 4 card Major; and the entire 2-level is still available to find a 4-4 Major fit. whereas: 1D - 2C! 2H/S = 4 card Major and not more than 4 cards ♦ and announces that the hand is not suited for a rebid in NT. But, if Opener's hand were balanced and more suited to declaring NT, he would rebid NT with minimum values EVEN if he held one or both 4 card Majors. Again, if a 4-4 major suit exists, it will be shown by Responder's rebid
  22. The problem is that a Responsive DBL in this auction shows the MINORS. ( 1M ) - X - ( 2M ) - X = minors If you have the other major ... just bid it at some level .
  23. Also from Lorne's handout [ my post # 3 ] , is the following Neg-DBL example : 1C - ( 1S ) - DBL - ( p ) 2H - ( p ) - 3D Does it look familiar ?? He says: " Since a 2H bid ( by you ) would promise 5+ ♥ and 10+ hcp, the DBL says you have less than 10 hcp or only 4 ♥ or both . The Neg-DBL of 1S usually shows at least 4 ♥ -- if you DON'T have ♥ you may have a LONG ♦ suit and be prepared to PULL his 2H to 3D " . Does this look familiar ??
  24. " After making a Negative Double, the ONLY forcing bid the doubler can make is a cue-bid of the opponents suit " . by Lorne Russell ( OKBridge Manager , from his Double Trouble Series ) . Thus, 3C is non-forcing .
