Partner could also have Ht-shortness for the 4H bid .
-
Now we see the reason for your other post here [ 2Hts or 2Sps ] asking : Does the 2S rebid show extras ? 1H - 2C! ( 2/1 GF ) 2S I play that it does, whereas with this minimum Opener it would go: 1H - 2C! 2H! ( any minimum ) - 2S! ( asks clarification ) 3H! ( 4s/6+h ) - 4H pass The other reply options are in the link you posted ( post # 8 )in the other thread: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/47733-2-hearts-or-2-spades/page__p__571082__hl__%2Breverse+%2Bextras__fromsearch__1#entry571082

Bid the slam
TWO4BRIDGE replied to mikl_plkcc's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
"Simple as pie" ...using the Baze convention over Stayman: 1NT - 2C 2H - ?? ........ 3C/3D = misfit, 4s/5+minor, GF ........ 3S! = fit, splinter somewhere; 3NT! asks where ........ 4NT = misfit, Quantitative ........ 4C! = fit, RKC-Gerber ........ 4D! = fit, no shortness, slam invite With no 2 quick losers, I think I'd have Responder choose 4C! ( RKC )... ending in 6H . -
Here is part of the commonly played Baze Structure ( you may look it up ) over Stayman: 1NT - 2C 2M - 4NT = Quantitative, major misfit, NT slam invite 1NT - 2C 2M - 4C! = major fit, RKC Gerber
-
I believe it has been answered. 4NT next should be Quant. and not RKC. For 4NT to be RKC, you agree trumps AFTER going thru 4th suit GF. For example: 1D - 1S 2C - 2H! ( 4th suit GF ) 3C - 4NT = Quant whereas 4C would be suit agreement

Off 2 Quick Club Tricks
TWO4BRIDGE replied to TWO4BRIDGE's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I always appreciate your relay auctions. I'm going to read your book when it comes out. Did someone mention Jacoby ? If Responder chooses an inspired Jac2NT ( whether simple or modified ), they will get an auction similar to gszes ( previous post ), and the pair will find out at or below 4H that they are missing a ♣-Ctrl. [ I agree with those who say Responder should not bid 1S ] . -
We benefited from the opps 6H-1 slam at IMPs. We took our Club tricks. Surprisingly, almost half the field was in 6H. [hv=pc=n&s=s65hakq84dak9cqt5&n=sakt832hj7632dc98]133|200|How would you bid it ??[/hv] Edit ( Addition ): Yes, South was Dealer .( I put that in the original diagram but had to start a new diagram when I mis-entered a suit and must have forgotten to add ).

Kickback - ROPI
TWO4BRIDGE replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I don't know what standard is but I'd play ROPI-RKC over your 4H! kickback and DBL: RDBL = 0/3 pass = 1/4 4S! = 2 - ♣Q 4NT! = 2 + ♣Q -
I don't mind the 3♦ cuebid , but does KenRex actually cue a VOID in partner's bid suit ( ♥ ) ? I recall his 3H! cue would be any of the THREE top honors. I also wonder how Ken would feel about Aguaman's 4H! Voidwood ! I'm a big fan of Minorwood and slam bidding, but how good is this slam if Opener is: ♠ 5 ♥ A J 10 9 8 ♦ A Q 2 ♣ Q 9 8 2 This hand is a difficult problem for the 13 hcp Opener and his 10 hcp partner .
-
2♦! ( 4tfh suit GF ) - 2NT ( stop(s) in 4th suit ) 3♣ ( discloses the reason for GF ) - 3NT ( Opener tries to discourage ) ??

I never know how to tackle these...
TWO4BRIDGE replied to Hanoi5's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
You win of course, and then have to rely on the ♦ finesse and 3-3 break ( in order to pitch the other losing ♥ ). If no 3-3 ♦, then have to fall back on the ♥ finesse which is favored to lose. -
I never know how to tackle these...
TWO4BRIDGE replied to Hanoi5's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
If you mean after winning the finesse, returning another ♣ gives Declarer another ruffNsluff... thereby eliminating a ♥ loser. -
I never know how to tackle these...
TWO4BRIDGE replied to Hanoi5's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Low to the 9.... ( playing the DBLer for a stiff ). Even if it loses, I can finesse again later. [ If the first finesse loses to a stiff honor, note how s/he is stuck for a return ] . -
Opening Bid makes 13 IMP difference
TWO4BRIDGE replied to jh51's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I don't know if it is better, but I was taught that: 1S - 1NTF 3H - ?? ....... 3S = weakest reply and may only be 2 cards ♠ ....... 4S = 3 card limit raise ....... 4C/4D = some say advance cue for 2nd suit: ♥ ....... 4H = to play .......3NT = none of the above -
How do I get to these slams (if I can)?
TWO4BRIDGE replied to hirowla's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
These are difficult. The first two resemble the recent "misfit" threads.... and stop in 3NT. The last one, even opening the more prudent 1H, Opener will be reluctant to go slammish after a 4th suit GF auction and Responder finally supports ♥ . -
Well said.
-
I would lead LOW ( from odd ) . ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Now you didn't ask about the following, but let's say partner HAS bid, and you have NOT supported: - - then Lead LOW from odd in his suit ... However, if you HAVE supported: - - then Lead HIGH w/NO honor ( x x x ) - - or LOW w/an Honor( H x x ).
-
Opener: 64 KQ6 AK87 KQ102 Responder: AKJxx A109 Q10x Jx So, is gnasher's method better than plain old: 1NT - 2H! 2S - 4NT! ( Quant )
-
Can't you end in 2NT after the "Walshish" start : 1C - 1H 1NT - 2D! ( NMF, not GF ) 2S ( most likely 4 2 3 4 ) - 2NT
-
3NT also... for the reasons given above. Opener's DBL was "Competitive" -- " I want to compete further but I am not sure what to bid " .
-
Can you say.... " splinter " ? I agree with your last statement about keeping it simple with 1H open .

Muiderberg Two-Bids
TWO4BRIDGE replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
When I was first shown this treatment, it was pointed out that the following are vital to your bidding -- learning both a ) Opener's minor and in some systems whether 4 or 5 cards ; and b ) Opener's distribution ( shortness, if any ). When ♥ are the Muiderberg Major, you have to be a bit more creative. You would lose a vital step if 2NT! were the "ask for minor" . So, I suggest : 2H! - 2S! = the "ask" . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Here is what I come up for the ♠ case and ♦ is the minor: 2S! - 2NT! ( asks for minor ) 3D - ?? ...... 3H! = GF, agrees Diam ...... 3S = GF, sets ♠ as trump, asks distribution ........ etc, etc ...... 4C! = double-fit ( ♠ & ♦ ); asks distribution: ................. - ?? ....................... 4D! = 5 2 4 2 ....................... 4H! = ♥--shortness ....................... 4S! = ♣--shortness Note: I still used the 4C! ( instead of 4D ) bid for the double-fit of ♠ & ♦ ... in order to leave room for three distribution bids at or below 4S . [ Edit: or switch the meanings of 4D! and 4S! where 4D! = ♣-shortness and 4S! = NO shortness ( 5 2 4 2 ) consistent with the previous case where ♣ is the minor ] . -
The " hand wringing "problem is using the 3C bid. This "troubled" bidding sequence ( 1H - 1S, 2D - ?? ) was solved by Meckwell: They use 2S! next as an artificial GF and not promising extra ♠-length: 1H - 1S 2D - 2S! ( GF ) ?? ..this allows Opener to make a 2NT bid with ♣-stop(s) . Here, though he probably doesn't have any ♣-stop, and bids: 3D - ?? so you are in the same place as before, and like the others have said , 3H is the bid.
-
I have nothing to add to the arguments here. 3H was definitely forcing. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Those who play Walsh, would have Opener rebid 1NT rather than 1S, but the problem may not go away: 1C - 1H 1NT - 2D! ( NMF ) 2S ( 4 cards ) - 3H - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Then there is the ( little used ) concept of the "Least Probable Rebid after a 4th suit GF " to distinguish between a 4-4 or the rare 5-6 hand when Opener has a problem rebid after 4th Suit GF ( 2D! here ): a ) no 3 cards in Responder's major ( or would bid 2H ) b ) no 4 cards in the 4th suit ( or would bid 3D ) c ) no stop in the 4th suit ( or would bid 2NT ) d ) no 5 cards in opening suit ( or would bid 3C ) 1C - 1H 1S - 2D! 2S! - 2NT ( responder might just bid 2NT to show ♦-stop(s) instead of 3H ) 3H* ( 2 cards ) - 4H ____________________________________________ * any bid OTHER than 3S denies the 5-6 hand
-
Here's a similar one that I had last night: A Q J ....... K x x Q 9 8 x ..... K J x x A K 10 ...... x Q J x ........ A K 9 x x 1C ......... 1H 4H ......... 6H just making That ♥J was an important card and my hand ( Responder ) was a 6 loser hand, had no 2 quick losers and contained Kings not Queens. Opener was a 6 loser hand also.
