  1. 1H ( 5 card Majors ) - 2C! ( 4+♣, 2/1 GF for me ) 3C ( 4+♣ ) - 3H ( 3 cards, now showing a double-fit ) 3S ( 1st or 2nd Rnd Ctrl, could be shortness; says nothing about "Seriousness" ) - 3NT! ( surely NOT "to play" ) ?? .. If 4C, this may be a "waiting" bid; so, you then bid 4H denying a ♦-Ctrl .. If 4D cue, then Responder can bid 4S! ( 6 Ace kickback-RKC for ♥ & ♣: this is for Aguahombre ) ...... ( 4D should be a Ctrl and NOT "last train" since a 4C bid was available )
  2. If you play Transfer Advances: 2C! ( ♦ ) . Then if partner "simply accepts", then bid 2S = usually showing a good 3 card raise but A x will suffice.
  3. Here is an alternate way to show shortness ( developed by Bill Higgins... a poster here awhile back ) where Opener doesn't have to go beyond 3NT . [ He said didn't have any data as to its effectiveness ] . 2H/2S - 2NT! ?? .. 3C = Bad hand, bad suit [ minimum ] .. 3D = Good hand ( or good suit ) w/ no shortness .. 3H = Good hand ( or good suit ) w/Club shortness .. 3S = Good hand ( or good suit ) w/ Diamond shortness ..3NT = Good hand ( or good suit ) w/shortness in the unbid Major So, for this hand Opener would rebid 3H!
  4. good hand .... good suit good hand = 7 losers ( or less ) good suit = 2 of top 3 honors
  5. You can play BOTH Minorwood and Kickback and which one depends simply on the following circumstances: - - Minorwood when suit agreement is first made BELOW the 4-level. - - Kickback when suit agreement is first made AT the 4-level . So, in your first example, I would take 4C as Minorwood ( especially if 2C were Inverted GF ) . And, in your 2nd example, 4D! ( after 4C ) would be Kickback.
  6. Seems like everybody these days are quick to get their feelings hurt. Just call them n00bs in the present vernacular .
  7. If playing a non-standard Neg-DBL = 4 cards ♠ and says "nada about ♥ , then 1C - ( 1D ) - 1H [4+ cards ♥ ] - ( p ) 2NT - ( p ) - 3NT - all pass
  8. You said partner had 6 cards Cl and 3 cards Sp.... so if he had enough values for game, a 4C - fit jump would have been more descriptive. This might put you off on later bidding 5S.
  9. I'm not sure I understand your post. The partnership has shown a double-fit: 5-3 in ♠ and 4-4 in ♥ ... and both partners know it.
  10. After 2/1 GF response: 1x 2y 2N = 12-14 or 18-19 (18-19 will bid above 3N) 1x 2y 3N = 15-17 1x 2y 2z 2N = 12-14 or 18-19 (18-19 will bid above 3N) 1x 2y 2z 3N = 15-17
  11. More thoughts on post # 20 : For the 1♠ open , since (1) and (2a) always show the 3 4 3 3 shape, lets take the 2H rebid by Opener: 1S - 1NT! 2H - 3NT! or 4C!, both showing the 3 4 3 3 shape and 15-17 or 18,19 respectively If either auction eventually goes 4NT = RKC key card, it should be 6-Ace ( ♥ & ♠ ). EDIT: ie because of the double-fit .
  12. 1♠ open 1) rbforster's ( post # 3 ) seems to handle the 3 4 3 3 problem with a 15-17 count: 1S - 1NTF 2any - 3NT! 2) That only leaves the 18,19 count ( w/ 3 4 3 3 ): a) I think I like a variation of CSGibson's idea ( post # 19 ) to handle that: 1S - 1NTF 2any - 4C! b ) Alternately, I might consider some form of immediate Jac2NT! raise for this one.... ( it does leave more space ) . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1♥ open There isn't a problem w/ 4 3 3 3 or 3 3 ( 4 3 ) You either have an immediate GF with a 2/1 in a 4 card minor ( 1S - 2m! )... or You go thru 4th-suit GF with 4 cards Spades starting with 1H - 1S ...
  13. Side issue : When ♥ are trump, Meckwell uses 4S! as kickback-RKC and 4NT as voidwood ( Excluding ♠ ) Analogously, when ♦ are trump, 4H! may be kickback-RKC and 4NT could be Voidwood ( Excluding the kickback suit, ♦ ). I don't know if they play it that way, but I do know some, if not many, here play 4H! as kickback . EDIT ( Addition ) : For example, in a recent thread [ http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/53539-strong-artificial-2-club-openings/ ] , Cyberyeti ( in post # 3 ) where ♣ are agreed as trump, he says 4D! = kickback and 4NT! is Exclusion ( Excluding the kickback suit, ♦ ).
  14. 1) I think it is safer to be in Clubs, since they are in danger of being ruffed if Diam are trump . 2) 4S ( only way to get tricks with little Spades ) [ If partner has a rounded Q, then 3NT might work ] . [ I think slam is totally out of the picture; OK, opener with A K x x x x x and ♠ split 3-3 and ♣ split w/Q onsides]. 3) pass
  15. 1S - 2D! ( 2/1 GF ) 3H! jump ( splinter for ♦ ) - ?? now East knows of wasted values in ♥ and maybe puts the breaks on in game. EDIT: Of course slam is about 50% ( ♥ Ace onside ) .
  16. Exactly. Mr order of playing the cards was slightly different, but the outcome the same. The key points are the ♦ finesse and pitching a ♣.
  17. Richard Pavlicek calls this DBL a Competitive Double . " Certain doubles, while penalty in standard bidding, are best played as competitive meaning, 'I want to compete further but I am not sure what to bid.' " . One of his examples looks much like yours: 1C - ( p ) - 1H - ( 1S ) p - ( 2S ) - DBL - ( p ) ?? His suggestion after a Competitive DBL: "Partner of the competitive doubler should choose the contract from the alternatives suggested by the previous bidding. Any nonjump bid (even a new suit) is nonforcing; jumps below game are invitational. Passing the double is a real possibility, requiring a suitable defensive hand with 4 trumps, or 3 trumps at the 3 level."
  18. I think it can be made using a variation of Morton's Fork.... losing only 1♠ and the ♥ K and Q . [hv=pc=n&s=skt9ht8432d52ck73&w=saj852h5dqt864c65&n=s4haj6dakjcaqj982&e=sq763hkq97d973ct4]399|300[/hv] South Declarer West leads ♦ 6
  19. This hand could be the "poster child" for 1430 .
  20. Is this a situation for good/bad 2NT! ?? ( to give you a 2nd way to bid either 3D or 3H ) .
  21. For the 4H bidders, how about showing 10 cards with a 4C - double jump . I've been told that the CWNN ( convention with no name ) is still ON over 1S or DBL interference .
  22. The hand illustrates how the absence of using RKC lands you in a contract which is OFF 2 cards -- namely the A and K of trumps. North took a shot at 6C after 4-level cue-bids, because he probably knew 4NT as RKC would push them above 5C anyway ( if RKC = 03 14 ). Better if his 4D! were kickback-RKC .
