  1. The only Ghestem like bid I like is (1♣)-3♣ = ♦ & ♠.
  2. There are many people who thinks it's better not to use Ghestem. This includes Pierre Ghestem! You will find many versions of Ghestem. Also there is Questem. I'm sure there are people who think one of the possibilities is best.
  3. The problem is there are so many situations where you want to take a bid but it shows some ridiculous number of points as you are assumed to bidding to make opposite a partner who could have 0 points, You are not permitted to balance, sacrifice or compete on reasonable hands. This is separate from the 4N issue which Gib just doesn't understand.
  4. You can have a meaning for a middle card playing upside down. So this is not an advantage of standard carding. As people have pointed out a middle card is often difficult to read, this is true for both methods depending on holding.
  5. Tom/Dick/Harry barred. Next hour Joe, John and Jennifer are new users and if they are really good have a new isp address. To put a permanent stop a player you need a way to identify them. BBO allows anonymous users which I think is good. As someone who regularly uses the BBO with their wife on the same isp, peeking doesn't require one person using two ids. That just means you don't need an accomplice. If you look up our hands some are so laughable we obviously don't know each others hands.
  6. All responses to a takeout double by Gib need to be rewritten. Gib is more likely to make a wrong response than the correct response.
  7. Playing at an NABC. A player took well over 5 minutes at MP in a 2-board set to play 1 card to either finesse or drop a Queen. Next hand he was declarer and my partner on lead wrote down the contract before leading, The declarer told my partner he should write the contract down after leading. My partner has a temper, i was surprised he didn't lay into this guy. Writing a score down saves almost no time if any, if someone is used to doing it another way it is their business.
  8. Normally a double of a 2-suiter here shows 1 or more of their suits. To expect a passed hand to have both suits stopped is asking a lot. Having neither stopped the double is pointless.
  9. Double of 2♥ appear to mean that south opened 1N. What?
  10. North has 3H. Is 3C a cuebid? On this garbage.
  11. B if you pass and opp opens in 4th seat, makes a contract and you didn't get to show diamonds later you will regret passing. If opp was passing you might make something.
  12. After slam try attempts and Gib saying it has nothing useful. You sign-off knowing likely off 2 tricks and Gib now decides hand is worth a slam and bids it. One said is rue but I would hate to agree with Gib on slam bidding, it sets a bad precedent.
  13. Why is Gib bidding 3S? There is no slam partner has passed already just bid 4H. Answer: Partner showed 14-16 points with their double and miscounted originally and passed. Sure! "If West had anything resembling their bid slam would be a pretty good bet" Which bid? Pass or double? If pass was trapping they have big spades, seems unlikely.
  14. Considering Gib ignores all lead directional doubles suggesting xxxx as trump isn't a big deal. I suspect Gib just chose a bid close to hand.
  15. 3S is nice bid. If meant naturally wants to take 9 tricks rather than defend and only need 6 tricks. I guess thinks there is game. 4♦ is listed as a cuebid so i guess it wants to play in 6S wow!
  16. The problem is in Gib responses to takeout doubles. Gib is incapable of showing it's 4-card suit. Gib has a nice hand but not that nice. A cue bid is unnecessary. Simply jump to 2♥ and pretty well describe it's hand. This is a common problem, you can't just play in a fit. Gib has to make 2 bids and then you miss fit.
  17. 2♣ should have an upper bound. It really shouldn't be forcing. The only reason it could be 8+ and not 6+ is responder will almost always have shape. But the shape could be a shortage in opener's suit which shouldn't be counted but is.
  18. I don't know but i had a challenge match on Sunday, with same bidding at both table. Gib had 4 card club support and never showed support instead bid 3NT without a stopper. To be fair the opponents were competing so probably had no way to show both clubs and play in 3NT. Also, both our bidding showed a good hand which we had, but much of the points were shape and partial fit with Gibs suit. At least we weren't counting shortness in partner's suit like Gib does. We also ran into a problem, where a non-jump 3♣ in competition showed a big hand. We had 16 hcp 6C + shape which was close. Are we supposed to pass with 16? Then responder should think we have 12-14 hcp and 3-4 clubs sometimes 5. Anyways 5♣ only loses the 2 Aces and if our side had one of those aces and lose something else there would be a good play for 6♣. Meanwhile 3N had no hope.
  19. Good strategy but i think getting doubled in 2♠ might be an improvement.
  20. Opps have a 10 card fit. How can you double and be sure you are not handing a top to NS? You can't you got it wrong big deal.
  21. If this logic allows South to you might as well throw any bit rule. South's hand is a poster child for using UI.
  22. I think pass would be correct. 9 loser hand. Easily could have 0 tricks in a non-spade contract. If you bid on this rubbish fine is no problem go ahead. But if you make bid on 10 hcp hand poster mentioned also, your partner won't know what to do often.
  23. Is it 12 open. Oh is it a horrible 12, then open it anyways and apologize if things go bad. Any system.
