Sorry dont have hand record my wife played it. She had 20 pts and made a bunch of forcing bids which Gib declined to make a forward move as didn't have great hand. So she signed off. Gib then bid 5NT described as Grand Slam Force. She had KQ trump and other 3 Aces so bid seven. Of course they were off Ace of trump. <gack>

New ACBL Convention Charts!
steve2005 replied to perko90's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
This was always allowed assuming 1D promised 15 hcp. -
Gee if you went for 500 with opps not making 3N and no spade stopper. How much do you think you will go for with a spade stopper and making 3N? Answer: more than game.

Sorry dont have hand record 1h 2s 3d 3s 6s gib raised on spade void 544 12 hcp Only way gib has enough pts is fully counting spade void Did not play well without AKQJTx Was a challange match at imps

Correct
-
Well if 3♦ is a help suit game try, which is implied from the description you could try 3♣. If 3♦ is your only game try then your screwed as Gib nor would a human won't go on the right hands.

Exactly proves nothing. You might find set up where 7N Works. Not bidding based on one hand.

Not bidding a lot with solid 9 cd suit
steve2005 replied to Stephen Tu's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
It is true Gib undervalues these type of hands. They are also hard to get correct for humans. Adding points wont make Gib bid better, they are so stupid they will make or sit for a penalty double at high level with no defense as it has lots of points. -
Maybe this isn't the best play but would hardly call it throwing the setting trick. Have seen Gib do that though. South played very well and made double dummy. Nothing EW did cost a trick. Maybe if EW played differently S won't find correct play.
-
You have AJTxx for trump which is undervalued and an extra trump. You have A of opener's suit. If opener wasn't in 3rd seat I would be serious considering just going 4♥. Inviting on this hand is not taking your life in hand, is very good. Your ♦ suit you don't need help (you would need a miracle), probably better if they have nothing in ♦ and good ♣. Not sure what Gib needs to accept a help try. To Invite I think simply bid 3♥ is best.

Responding to a 1 bid with a queen and a jack
steve2005 replied to wbartley's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
If you are making 4♠ i bet Gib puts you in 6 if you respond on 3 hcp. -
What good is a fit when partner raises or passes on 3 small and you have 4 trump losers? I agree a fit is useful but 76543 opposite 982 is useless. In any case, at imps you goal for game is 3N not 5m. Yesterday i had a had with 5-card support and A as stopper in opps suit. I bid 2NT not 3m and partner had enough to bid game.
-
Personally, I would prefer partner have something useful in a suit they bid. I know Gib doesn't lead partner's suit by i do! If 2♣ shows any 5 clubs i really don't want to know about it I'd rather they pass if they won't bid 1N or 2N.

suicidal unfavorable 4 level overcall
steve2005 replied to Stephen Tu's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
While the auction wasn't similar. I had an opponent bid 4♦ over 3NT on 3451 distribution vul going for 1100. They have over 5,000 mp each. After hand they complained partner didn't pull to their heart fit as i obviously had ♦ for my double. If they actually had 6♦ they would hold to 500 and a top as we were also vul. Bidding 4♦ vul is just bizarre double if making a crazy bid even with 15 pts which not even close. -
You can actually fill something out that appears as a link in your profile called your favourite convention. Almost nobody uses it.

Is my hand too weak for a splinter ?
steve2005 replied to UdcaDenny's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Mini-splinter over an overcall? 3♣ just forces it doesn't have to be a splinter. -
Could be the four card spade suit as some sort of exception.

Another example of wrong shape bidding
steve2005 replied to wbartley's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
There are a lot of situations where Gib making a bid doesn't show extras according to description . This makes slam bidding really difficult. And same for the human. Often there is no reasonable way to show extras. Here, NS are forced to game. North with nothing extra can pass. So bidding clearly has to show extras, either in shape or hcp. Yet there you are potentially opposite a 12-14 without much to say. -
It needs to loosen constraints playing against other Gibs too. Often Gib is out of range on bids. Gib should not be playing random cards in tie. Gib should still do the right bridge play, including signaling if it knew how to do it. Speaking of signalling, what good is 4♣ at trick 1 with spade void and AK♦? And also even if declare doesn't have KS knows finesse is working, so danger of contract making.

Danny Sprung posted this on Bridgewinners and i wondered what chart BBO will use? The ACBL Board of Directors approved the New Convention Charts in Philadelphia. There were two minor language changes from the charts that were submitted. The new charts will be effective the first day of the 2018 Fall Nationals in Honolulu. There will be several articles in the ACBL Bulletin introducing the new charts. Thanks to all of you who helped with suggestions. Here is a link to the new charts: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sOIU9fNAVlFftvRGuj7I5apPZsibzCL0Dsd6KVg7sjk/edi

Incorrect. The statement that he didn't see opener's bid is UI. IE. opener knows partner has 22+ pts or similar. Accepting a bid does not allow this info to become known.
-
Other than the director should have been called which you already know. UI needs damage for there to be an adjustment. So need both hands, auction and vulnerability to answer.
-
Assuming your not playing transfers with 0-9 pts and 5 card suit signing off in 2M will make sense most of the time. Often not playing transfers 2D is forcing Stayman so you may not have available. Even if 2D is sign-off the closer you are to 9 pt you may not chose to bid 2D especially at matchpoints as 1N may score better and 2D may be down when 1N makes. With 5 clubs that is not enough to sign-off at the 3-level. 3C may turn out to be better but without 6+C is too risky. If they double you can run to clubs.
