BBO doesn't get involved in private clubs and we can't fault them for that. They believe that market forces will sort out the clubs that have unhappy members. It isn't happening in the club that you are referring to because, either the majority of the members are happy, or too afraid to speak up, as they know they will have their memberships terminated. If the manager is a bully, and knows that most of his/her members are there for the free services offered by the club, then he/she has a one up on everyone right? Maybe running clubs on the internet gives people a buzz! Don't you feel sorry for them? I do. I wouldn't give up bridge or bbo for getting kicked out of that club or any other club. You should come back too and ignore the whole sorry mess. In my view, people like this club manager, work hard to offer an invaluable service to BBO but at the same time, use that to their advantage. Just don't let anyone who thinks he/she is "important" bully you, when you know you are right. :)

You have to have BBO dollars. Go to Shop Bridge from the Lobby, then click on products for sale. Click Rental, Gibs, Robots that play bridge and you have the option to rent them for a week or a month. :)

I would respond a spade to North's one club. With a hand that I can bid twice, then diamonds first. Wait for the experts to comment though... <_<

Zmey, I think it would be a good idea for you write the start time on the tournament description, as you mentioned in one of your posts. I registered this evening for the pairs tournament, got upset because the TD kept adding time and withdrew. Later I went and checked out your website and saw that your tournament actually started exactly on time. 19.45 Paris time. When I signed up, the tournament list showed it as starting in 24+ minutes, but when it went down to 5 minutes time was being added. Now, I realise you have to add time so that you can start at 19.45 as advertised, but surely there must be a better way to do this? I suspect most people don't check the website and get upset when they think you are delaying. What are we supposed to understand from 24+. It could be 24+24. It's so simple to just write it there. Paris time, NY time, whatever time but..make it easy for people to figure out what is going on.;) Rona

I have to agree with that: :)

You are right, the TD has the option to allow dummy to see all four hands. I haven't come across it in paying tournaments though.
-
You can't see all four hands in a tournament.

Signed up to play in a tournament with a partner, and we opened an invisible teaching table to play with the bots. The tournament started without us and we got messages that "the player is playing in another tournament" ;) Did the bots do that? :)

Should TDs also play in their tournaments?
rona_ replied to Rain's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Apologies , delays shouldn't have been in that sentence. I have had the experience though of being at a table where one of the opponents became abusive towards my partner, by unleashing a string of vulgarities just out of the blue, and the TD sent messages to tournament saying email abuse. A non playing TD can sub immediately. Sometimes there are no yellows online to report abuse to and at other times the available yellows are playing tournament, and sometimes, even they tell the members to email abuse. So Yes I would vote against playing TDs. -

rona_ replied to Rain's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Hotshot is right. People go into these tourneys without reading tournament conditions and when there are delays, and complaints, TDs usually tell the players to email abuse. Not long ago a tournament was posted called SLOWBALL. Conditions of tournament were listed, starting with, " I would prefer that no one signed up for this tournament but if you do, you will play 4 boards in one hour and players who intentionally disconnect or leave will be banned from playing tournaments for a week." Something to that effect, anyway. Within 5 minutes of the tournament being posted there were 117 registrations! :) I don't think the participants found it funny but I did :D -
I don't think this is a thread where the finger is pointed at a cheat. The original poster asked a question but most people wandered off the subject....Maybe they never got down to the last paragraph?

Buy the book "The Joys of Yiddish" By Leo Rosten, if you can. Informative and entertaining. Someone called me a tsetummelteh the other day and I thought it was a compliment until I looked it up in my book :( There are two and a half pages of explanations for kibitzers and kibbitzers. Watching a card game is only one of the many things that "kibitz" means. And yes, they are synonymous.

And make sure you floss and brush your teeth afterwards  Cherdano, Hainanese chicken rice is ok but over-rated, in my view. Try Laksa which isn't on the bbo menu, and don't miss the Durian cake. If you can find the fruit, don't be afraid to try. It stinks to high heaven and tastes divine. ;) Durian has an added advantage: it gets rid of all your house pests ;) Not allowed on aeroplanes or hotels in Asia. Taking this thread seriously Dog.

I meant to add. Usually players who reject undo requests, are the ones who don't say hello when they sit down, who try to remain mute when spoken to so that when they get up and leave in the middle of playing a hand, it's harder for the host to trace them, the ones that start offending their partner once dummy is down, and one has to remove them anyway, or just poor players who want to win imps not because of their good play or defence, but because it is the only way they can win. So yes please, I would like to see my partner's undo requests in the main lounge:)
-
Well Sceptic everyone has his own view of course. I would prefer to be able to see my partner's request for an undo. In the main lounge, if I am the host, whoever does not accept an undo is asked to leave the table at the end of a hand. "Errare humanum est. Perseverare diabolicum." I happen to agree with the first part only, so, undos for all at my table. Misclicks happen due to many reasons. Arthritis, bad eye-sight, peripatetic mice ;) . Give opps the benefit of a doubt. In tournament, I think the present system is just fine. It's up to the TD. However I would not like to see my partner's request for an undo, because a rejection would make me lose focus. Selfish!

Happy birthday Mauro

Buon Compleanno Bello  Auguri. Rona -
Sure it's ok for some small talk, but most were discussing the hands except for one person who talked about anything but bridge. Therefore I fail to see the necessity of the above post. In fact I find it rather strange.

I'll try everything and let you know if it worked. I find it hard to understand what you're complaining about. Were you talking about bridge? As the saying goes: people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

You will find that people who feel the need to cheat aren't very bright, so fortunately for everyone else, some cannot take advantage of their cheating. Coming first or last should not even be a subject of discussion, nor the concern of abuse, in my view. :)

Thanks Ben. This is part of the chat with the TD after North was booted. TD: sorry no alert bad play North: You could at least ask me for an explanation before booting me TD: No bad play texas play u bad playeru TD: You no biridge North: I do stayman to see if P has spades TD:bye If North is a good player, she can laugh it off but if she isn't a good player, I suppose this could be the end of his/her bridge playing career  I vote for this TD to be removed from the list of TDs. :)

I thought it was obvious that since there was no spade fit, and South would have at least 2 hearts that North had a right to bid to game. B) Any alerts necessary? Thanks.

Accused -and ejected!
rona_ replied to nikos59's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Sorry PBleighton I must have not expressed myself correctly..Nikos mentioned his partner's name which made it easy for everyone to find out who their opponents were. I thought that was just as bad as mentioning the opponents' names. No names should be mentioned...Geez...I need English lessons....and bridge lessons....and and and.... :P i was trying to be sarcastic but obviously failed:) -

rona_ replied to nikos59's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Might as well post the names of South and North. It took me 2 seconds to find out who they were, since your partner's name was mentioned too. The moderating team must still be in bed. :P  -
Thanks Fluffy but what would you bid: Pass, one diamond, 4 diamonds? since opps had slam in hearts.
