  1. That's because the 2♦ bidders play that 2♠ guarantees 4 but no xtra values for their double. They think 2♠ is weird because we have all these xtras and we are underbidding by calling 2♠ and we are a ♠ short.
  2. doesn't 2♠ now show this hand?
  3. hardly random that they are a high %age(relative to # of countries participating) Miss Universe winners
  4. Fred's Rule of 2... There are only 2 reliable rules in bridge: the Rule of 11 and Fred's Rule of 2. Fred Gitelman Bridge Base Inc. www.bridgebase.com I thought this was the rule of 10 or the rule of 12 since leading 4th best has apparently become passe :)
  5. your partner is meta-agreement challenged! For my partners defense: This was at the last table of a pairs event. He felt (and appeared to be correct in that) that we needed one more top to win the event. That is why he preferred to bid 3NT without giving too much info to opps. ...we ended 2nd. and where would you have ended if you had not gotten a 0 on this one(deserved if not in fact)?
  6. IMO 1♠ = 10, 3♠ = 5, 4♠ = 4, 2♠ = 2, _P = 1 I gracefully accept my score of "1". likewise I will take a "1"
  7. “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”
  8. your partner is meta-agreement challenged!
  9. when partner takes a unilateral position, he is not asking your opinion be a good partner and don't give one.
  10. Hoping to save KFay from having a stroke... The 10♦ is in your hand, the J♣ is in dummy. okay so lead a low ♦ to the T
  11. The real question in my mind is why partner chose this particular auction and how that impacts the decision process for the rest of the auction. Might or should we expect something like [hv=s=skjxxxxxxhdxxxcxx]133|100|[/hv] What I am trying to suggest is that partner should reserve jumps like 4♠/1NT for preemptive style calls. Certainly the colors on this hand are right for that.
  12. -850 vs -300 is not possible? So in my mind, pass is an option, as well as 5♠. Is this a FP auction? I wouldn't think so. Plus no consideration as to who the opps are. If Meckwell were playing this would X still be so clear?
  13. 2NT This is a straight forward hand. Those who will bid 2NT with a stiff A or K will. Those who won't will bid 1♦ planning on a 3♣ reverse or bidding game in ♠ if the opportunity presents itself. So take your poison!!!
  14. T1 Q♥ T2 small ♣ to J T3 A♥ T4 A♣ cashing the rest of the ♣s if suit breaks and top 2♦; if not... T5 K♣ T6 T♦ followed by taking another ♦ finesse and taking as many ♦ as I can take play this the same in both 1] and 2] Having now read your line, which is better, after the ♣J I play the T of ♦ from dummy
  15. Well I am glad to see no one thinks partner is idiotic enough to call 3♦ with[hv=s=skjxxxhxxdkqxxcxx]133|100|[/hv] Hopefully the OP can confirm that!
  16. I see how they ruled on you. The question that I have. Is did you get kissed?
  17. What is the problem with Ann Coulter? I mean where else can you get the Fox News Channel all rolled up into one person? I doubt she ever met a Democrat she didn't hate. <_<
  18. 2a] [hv=d=e&v=n&s=sxhakqjt98dxckqjt]133|100|[/hv]
  19. Failing to make a claim is also a violation IIRC are you going to start issuing DPs for that as well? This is a procedural problem that needs to be corrected by the TD. As the partner you need to get the violator to state she retains the right to play the cards in any order but that they are showing their cards to speed up play and make her proceed to play out the hand until the opponents concede.
  20. So you are saying most Europeans would make an illegal call? Because I think most bridge players (North American as well) who play strong NT openings would open 1NT but X 1♥ since they don't have a ♥ stopper.
  21. personally given the colors and the game type I think pass shows second round control of ♥ that doesn't mean partner will move but they should know that you expected to make 5♦ and expect them to hit this.
  22. you are vulnerable vs nonvulnerable I don't think your holding makes sense under those circumstances as you are also playing IMPS not MP
