If you open light in 1st and 2nd seat then you are relieved from doing so in 3rd and 4th seat. So I would expect partner to make a 1♦ call in 3rd seat with a hand he has an expectation of a plus score i.e. a pretty good hand. Consequently with your hand I think a 3♠ call is mandatory.

Your hand had potential for the "convention with no name" i.e. a 4♣ call before the interference (no you don't teally have to be super strong to bid it; if necessary do a simul to convince yourself) since my values are in my suits I would try 5♥.

I have a serious failing as a bridge player I actually like to hold slightly more than an average number of HCP when I open at the 1 level. Since this hand fails that test I will start with 3♦ planning on a 5♣ rebid over the opps presumed major suit game call.

These small diagrams and my bad eyes made me look at the auction like it was 3♠ passed to me and I was as a result wondering about all the comments. Now that I see the opening call was 3♣ it makes it more sense. Now I can understand 3NT as well as X. The pass is a bit too pessimistic on this hand esp when you consider that RHO at these colors has in essence a license to steal.

blame the system

you need to make life tough on the opps after they open 1♥ cause you can be sure they are going to make life hard for you ASAP at these colors. So an immediate 4♠ is your best shot to buy the contract while making it as difficult as possible for them to figure out if a sac makes sense.

It is my understanding that Goren had a 300 page bridge book in his library titled " Bridge Responses by the Preemptor" .... all 300 pages were blank.

your choices look to be pass or 3NT. I will grit my teeth and pass but only because I don't know what your doubling agreements are in this situation.

I would just gamble that partner has at least 7♥ so the expected 1-1 split (i.e. >50%), a side king and a second ♦ would produce 13 winners. Of course this would be a pretty bad 4♥ call so basically even with an ugly preempt partner has a shot.

last time I checked 2♦ + 3♣ + 3♠ + 1♥ = 9 which is why I lead a ♥ to the A and another

this is a constructive 2♥ call

1) East should treat his hand like a limit raise so the 4♠ call is justified. What West called is mostly just unlucky but is out of bounds of the 2♠ call agreement. 2] 4♥ is justified but can accept 3♥ if W is worried about the opps accepting the transfer to 4♠ and would feel more comfortable bailing out to 3♠ 3] 2NT and over 4♥ take out insurance with 5♣ 4] this is just a blind guess. I would probably pass but can accept either 4♥ or 4♠ 5] accept the transfer....4♠

if you are going to at least 5♣ anyway you might try for partner to have the magic hand and bid 4♦ over 3♠

You could ask if everybody followed to what has to be the technically correct play at trick 2 of the Q♠

Hmmm let me more explicitly explain if you held 532/KJ74/KQJ6/A3 or K52/KJ74/QJ63/A3 instead of K52/J743/KQJ6/A3 would you bidding really change that much.

would your bidding have been significantly different if you had swapped either the ♦K or the ♠K for the 3♥. Personally I think this is awfully close to resulting. Stuff happens live with it!
