  1. Somewhat depends on whether you open light in 1st seat or 3rd. If partner has a real opener then the X is DSIP but it is closer to pass as card placement rates to be bad for your side
  2. Thanks for the support unfortunately your are biased in my favor :P
  3. highly invitational with an extra ♥
  4. Basically if I understand the OP's system you can't have this hand as you would have bid 2♠
  5. Having a good lead is not the same as setting 3NT. Sure you can set up your ♠ but which deuce are you using for an entry?
  6. Just keycard for ♥ and bid 6 or 7♥ your hand needs to be dummy not his
  7. And you assume that because your suggested hand occurs more frequently that you are safe enough to X? You were facing -140 or -170 at probable worst. Now you start losing IMPs at -200 and it is not enough that you have the hand you propose what is partner's holding likely to be. Do you think he didn't hear you bid 1NT?
  8. 2nt second option=3nt AHA another one who thinks Txxx is a stopper :)
  9. These are my sentiments and gets my vote
  10. based on what criteria? Your side has to make 7 tricks assuming the other side has 9 tricks locked up to turn a profit. Do you think you are setting 3NT based on your ♠ suit?
  11. I think the double should be takeout and the given hand is not suitable for such action. restating conditions V vs not, IMP pairs. Now you think X should be takeout by the 1NT bidder? Show me a hand that meets the criteria and that is not potentially volunteering our side for a ZIP code ending with two or three 0s
  12. If you don't have the extra brain cells that Frances has :) you could use the simpler 2♠=up to a constructive raise 3♠=a limit raise QBid= forcing but not necessarily fit showing change of suit is constructive and forcing The wider range of the direct raise puts pressure on partner to have to make riskier game tries.
  13. The only forcing bid you have over a 1NT overcall is a qbid i.e. 2NT. You certainly need to consider X. 3♥ must be highly distributional but non-forcing. Any suit bid suggests IMO no fit (unless agreed otherwise) and is preemptive. So your choices look like 4♥ or X and the club suit makes IMO 4♥ a little better
  14. looks like partner has short ♥ but still couldn't find a TOX my inclination is to pass
  15. an alternative to 4♥ is a neg X and followed with a raise to 4♠
  16. Don't like penalty doubles of suits they have freely bid and raised. This particular double could be "something else" Perhaps a good raise to 3♥, while 3♥ instead would be competitive. Another treatment would be a 3-card raise, maybe 4-3-3-3 such as ♠AKxx ♥QJx Jxx ♣Axx Pardon me!!! Did you not make a takeout double of 1♦ promising support for the other 3 suits if minimum so what are you choices if chose to make a TOX holding ♠Axxx ♥KJx ♦xx ♣AQT9 In other words, in this case Eric Leong from Rec.Games.Bridge, how do you tell the opponents they have made a mistake?
  17. You hold, as a self described expert, AJx Axxx Q2 KQTx Playing IMP pairs with you V vs NV and using SAYC. Sitting in first seat you hear this auction West North East South - - - 1NT 3S P P X P P XX P P P Partner leads a small club and dummy plops with 9xx KQJ JT9xx Ax T1 xC A T x T2 KH A x x T3 QD A x x T4 xH x K x T5 QH x xC x T6 xS x QS x T7 xD K xD 2 T8 xD J JS x T9 KC xS x x T10 xS x 9 A declarer claims After inspecting the whole hand partner says "Why did you X, you don't have the hand for it" You smartly retort "I play that X for takeout"
  18. after a NFB the only forcing bid should be to qbid the opponent's suit provided the bidding showed at least 5 cards in the suit or a fit. In this case no, 3♥ is not forcing. As a caveat I do not use NFB but it does not make logical sense to use a NFB and expect partner to take subsequent bids to be forcing.
  19. As other's have note why should they go down when we can and so 3♦ is mandated. Back to reality, this is a WTP pass IMO
  20. You are in an information war bidding ♠ when you have a clear cut, support showing, alternative is anti %age
  21. Support with support if 2NT is a ♠LR that is the bid
  22. A ♠ lead is near automatic you need to set up your second trick so you can cash it when you win the ♣K
