  1. Well I am not sure what the legal definition is but certainly between playing to the 12th trick and taking cards out of the slots for the next hand is a dead time and should be "between hands" and the play between playing to the 12th trick and prior to taking cards out for the next hand is the "consumption of caviar sandwiches is prohibited time" :)
  2. the fact that he had NT values?
  3. I take it this is a hint that dummy should ask his partner to table his cards so he can choose one to play :)
  4. this is in my HCP range for 2NT so clump me with the other 2NT openers.
  5. Have you read Watson's "Play of the Hand" ? Although "read" might be the wrong verb; you really need to treat each hand as a problem to be solved.
  6. try to take the V game sacrifice in such a way that opps allow maybe by 4♣ then 5♣; maybe 3♠ followed by 4♣/X and 5♣/over any thing else. If the opps think I am a complete wacko then 5♣ directly
  7. In view of all the confusion surrounding Qbids and no meta-agreements in place I would just overcall 1♠ planning on a ♦ rebid. As a possible meta-agreement I would use after both opponents have called different suits I would use "Michaels not applicable" and Sandwich NT instead of natural.
  8. you have to weigh the call in view of other possible calls like 2♥, 3♦,and 4♥
  9. your partner has an opening 1♥ hand and his 1♦ call totally screwed your side as far as the bidding goes.
  10. into each life some rain must fall B-)
  11. because a 44 fit rates to play better than a 52 fit. of course you have to guess that partner is 54xy rather than 64uv. which is more likely
  12. I think the bridge equivalent would be a convention card. But if I equated K52 2 K754 J8743 with Kxx xxx Kxx Jxxx I would need a reserved seat at the Bedlam Bridge Club.
  13. 1)4♥ but no guarantees 2) You should probably bid 4♥ instead of 3NT. It is very hard for me to believe partner is 34xy and didn't bid 1NT over 1♠ 3)If you are using Meckwell transfers here bid 2♦, a less than constructive ♥ raise. Otherwise just bid 2♥ to let partner you have some support.
  14. RE: the first sentence And this is not masterminding but always just bidding a balanced 33HCP 6NT is? Do you have a simul that shows that a 44 fit is significantly better than a balanced 33HCP 6NT?
  15. and how were you going to find out about the bad trump break? IM? or just peek in your opps hand?
  16. similarly there is nothing from preventing a 5-0 or 4-1 trump split from crashing your slam while 6NT rolls.
  17. it is simple. your trick expectation has to be in line with the colors. so if you are Xed V vs NV you need to be sure you are taking 8.5 tricks for a 4M call. since this is relatively rare you don't see good players making wild preemptive calls at these colors
  18. 2♠ I prefer to bid controls and ♦ have none. With sufficient controls we probably should be in slam expecting to take 6♣ and 5♥ plus a pointy suit trick
  19. Well you have collected a !h trick and 2♣ tricks it probably makes sense to just take your other 6 tricks?
  20. I play better minor so I open 1♦ :) I hate downgrading or upgrading these hands as well so I am ready to bid 2NT.
  21. 1) Unless I know partner makes worthless TOXs they are not playing this at the 5 level undoubled 2)Why didn't you pass 2♦X?
