Yes but how did it end up in BBO News? We really don't want it to be public, especially this one.. -

NOTE: We get a big demand from people who never played a challenge event before. I suggest those guys to register for the other event, 7A. We cannot accommodate all the demand coming from these folks. Here is the link: http://www.bridgebas...d-swiss-format/ -
Event 7B (Round-robin then Knock-out, fast pace)
ovncylmz replied to ovncylmz's topic in BBO Forum Events
It gets very sensitive in the end of RR and during all KO stage especially when you are not done etc. That is what we mean by daily, otherwise you don't have to login and check every day or something at the beginning of the tournament. However, it is still a good idea to check often, because for example your opponents sends wrong format or does not have advanced robots etc. etc. and people really dont communicate well via actual bbo, so this is a good place to learn stuff. -

Given you had multiple issues in the last tournament and we basically did not ever hear from you about your Round of 16 game last time (vs. kubiresmo), we can only take you to 7A this time. Sorry. -
GO TO FULL DETAILS >> http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/76266-challenge-event-7a-swiss-information-results/ Hello everyone, This is the registration post for the Event 7A. Some information and guideline for registration: 1) The tournament consists of a single stage: A modified Swiss. 2) Event will be IMP, best-hand. 3) Modified Swiss: Each player will play 2 games x 16 boards per week (except last week). Both matches of the week will be announced on Saturday night / Sunday morning EST. There will be a single match announcement in the last week, with same announcement time. Two players who played against each other before can play again in last week only. (Important note: There may be repeat games at the bottom half of the standings within last three matches, based on the number of participants and how the tournament goes) 4) The event will be 7 or 9 matches (very low chance 11) based on the number of players. 5) Each player must follow the event post and make sure that their game results are reported before the Saturday 9PM EST. 6) Event is open to anyone except the violators of the rules in the previous tournaments. But each player has to know how to follow the announcements in forum, how to send a challenge in the correct format (Best hand, IMP), how to report results. 7) Full details will be announced after the number of participants is known. 8) Registration deadline: Saturday, March 4, 9PM EST. Please write your name below to register and confirm (6). Cheers, Ovunc NOTE: If the majority of registration is coming from the new entrants, we may change it to pure KO - because somehow BBO has this event posted in the news, and the total number may get out of control.

congrats phil, big win - i saw you wont be able to play the speedy event, but you should probably register the slow swiss:)

ANNOUNCEMENT: Registration is closed now: - Total of 30 entrants, therefore we have two groups, A and B. Both will play a full Round Robin. Top 4 from each group will qualify and will be matched with someone in the other group (i.e. A1-B4, A2-B3, B1-A4, B2-A3) - There will be a new thread for each group, please check both links below (will be ready by midnight EST) and follow the thread about your group starting tomorrow. - The details will be announced in your group thread. There will be a schedule to help you and us for keeping things organized. Hello everyone, This is the registration post for the Event 7B. Note: YOU CAN REGISTER BOTH 7A AND 7B. Some information and guideline for registration: 1) The tournament consists of two-stages: Round-Robin (RR) and Knock-out (KO). 2) Event will be IMP, best-hand. 3) RR stage will be either a complete RR or two-group RR (groups based on seeding points). Number of boards per game will be 12 or 16, based on the number of participants. 12 or 16 boards. 4) KO stage will be top-8 players. In case of a complete RR, top 4 will choose from 5-8. In case of a two-group, there will be cross-matching. Each game will be 64 boards, no carry-over is applied. 5) Each player must follow the event post daily (especially in the late RR and KO stage). 6) Each player is expected play around 5-6 matches per week. 7) The tournament committee may exclude players (based on the historical data) who will potentially violate (5) or (6). 8) If a player wants to join the BBO Forum Challenge Event for the first time, we suggest him/her to register for Event 7A, which is a slower pace tournament. But if the player is sure that s/he can follow both (5) and (6), then the tournament committee may take him/her to Event 7B. Using a regular-attendant as a reference may be a good idea for such players. NOTE: We get a big demand from people who never played a challenge event before. I suggest those guys to register for the other event, 7A. We cannot accommodate all the demand coming from these folks. Here is the link: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/76211-event-7a-modified-swiss-format/ 9) Full details will be announced after the number of participants is known. 10) Registration deadline: Saturday, March 4, 11AM EST. - CLOSED.. Please write your name and confirm that you can follow both (5) and (6) under this post. Cheers, Ovunc Confirmed players: Ovncylmz, smerriman, scarletv, elyk25, wackojack, zzmiy, chuck11, diana_eva, olegru, sieong, crazy4hoop, stoppiello, nige1, gerardo, nekthen, ye17, tonywhuk, toast1, jexa_, aurora, barmar, gordontd, lcycookie, jordanova, phoenix214, broze, mkgnao, ant590, hijunny132

That is for the fast-pace event. Last time more than half of the newcomers were not able to follow the posts in the forum / send a challenge / understand it was a tournament etc. We want to keep fast-pace event as small as possible so we can actually do a cool RR, at least in the first time. Instead of making it a invitational or closed event, we decided to add people if someone gives a good reference for them - saying something like "this person knows about how it works, and can commit 6-7 games per week". Dropouts in the middle of the tournament is so painful to deal with. Note that slow-pace Swiss is open to anyone.

Since people are not playing the same sets and it is a Swiss only (No KO), we go with Best-Hand in the first event. We don't want that a match defends 13-14 out of 16 hands and other match only defends 2-3. It will create completely different number of opportunities for the players. Plus, defending with GIB is mostly random, expert players say.
